Electric engines are all well and good for the environment if you have a fossil-free way of powering the batteries. But even here in the tropics where we have solar power and lithium batteries, a few cloudy days means switching on the generator. Paul and Anthony (Narrowboat Life Unlocked) say they use MORE diesel to run their boat after installing an electric engine, because they have to keep switching on the generator! I'm concerned about the overlooked human and environmental cost of mining minerals for all these batteries (lithium, nickel, cobalt, graphite, manganese, alumina, tin, tantalum, magnesium and vanadium). Is it any better than mining for oil and gas? Here in Indonesia "...5,331 hectares of tropical forests have been cut within nickel mining concessions on Halmahera, totaling a loss of approximately 2.04 metric tons of greenhouse gases (CO2e) previously stored as carbon in those forests". Dunno the answer to all this angst! Hydrogen? Nuclear? Totally agree with you about keeping life as simple as possible! Liz 😀👍🐝🌳🌻

We agree with everything you say. We are also really concerned about the mineral mining. The worry is that people are being let to believe that electric power id good for the environment and will them use more. I recently saw an outdoor wood burning pizza oven which was electrically controlled. What a complete nonsense!!!

@@FloatingOurBoat That is mad! Maybe we should get an electric BBQ for the beach instead of using driftwood? 🤔😀 We keep gadgets to a minimum, even replacing the electric flush on the loo with a manual version. For safety reasons, we replaced the gas cooker with a two-ring induction hob (sailboats and gas are not a good combination). It meant losing the oven, but I can cook everything I need on a two-ring hob. Safe travels! 🙏

Finally had a chance to catch up and give this a listen. I've always enjoyed the podcasts and I'm so glad that you have started up again. Fran I cannot tell you how absolutely delighted I was to hear that you are using the journal for your daily haikus. Years ago I tried to do the same and failed, but you have inspired me to consider trying again. Best to you both and as always, looking forward to the next blog/vlog/podcast. 💜

What a lovely cruise, thank you so much. It's a shame about the fly tipping, mind you I would collect any wood for woodwork projects! Just a thought the wood is perfect for kindling if it is untreated. Not sure it's ok to burn if it has preserver in it, I maybe wrong. Looking forward to your next video. What a beautiful meadow. Thanks again.

We are fortunate to buy our fruit and veg from a proper greengrocer. He's been unable to get cauli at a pruce he can sell them for several weeks. Then he suddenly had 2 for £1 , the reason being a very large supermarket had refused a whole consignment because they were unwrapped!!! The farmer loses out.
