6:35 I think most people won't notice the "mistake" because it's not a sour note, it's just a bit off time. It actually kind of sounds like it supposed to be played that way. The funny thing is, after September became the giant hit it is, every time they played it live, it HAD to be played off time or it "wouldn't sound right"!

In 2006 I saw a "double concert" featuring EW&F paired with..Chicago! You can't ask for a better combo than that! It was like this..The two groups played the fist two songs together, the first being Chicago's Beginnings; the 2nd one I don't remember. Then Earth, Wind & Fire did the first half of the concert for about 45 minutes to an hour. Then, after intermission, Chicago did the second half. Then for the big, big, BIG finale, the two bands reunited on stage to play another EWF song and THEN topped it off Chicago's with 25 or 6 to 4! After 16 years I STILL remember that!

His storytelling is poorly researched nonsense, and he's mostly quoting Wikipedia, when he's not just making things up. It's not a "filler song," it's the "original" that *every* artist put on their Greatest Hits collections in the 70s, to drive sales. Every single major artist did this. Also, most would agree that the other "good" track on the otherwise boring _Sgt Pepper_ soundtrack was Aerosmith's cover of _Come Together._ Guess he never heard of that, either. This is KZread "presentation over substance" at its worst. Sorry I wasted the time (but at least I watched it at 2x so it was only half a waste of time).

Fantastic album by one of the greatest groups ever with one of the finest soul voices ever, RIP Maurice White.
My favorite quip from the backstory of “September” is where right before the song’s release, Allee was earnestly plying “Reece” to chuck the iconic hook in the chorus. He reportedly said to her, “Never let a lyric get in the way of a groove”. The rest, as is often said is…well, you know. Thank you SO much for sharing your knowledge, giftedness, humor & enthusiasm for great music with all of us. Respect. 👊🏽🙏🏽

There is a rare concert documentary of EWF in Brazil LIVE. (Please make a video about it) I have NEVER seen a group of people onstage dancing while playing non-stop for the whole concert. I remember seeing Al McKay the Guitarist doing almost breakdancing moves without missing a lick. Damn. Amazing Band. It must have been an amazing experience to see them LIVE at their peak in the 70's and 80's

The incredible album "Lincoln Olivetti e Robson Jorge!" in the background. Lincoln (aka Mago do Pop) was genius! In Brazil, from 1978 to 1988, 80% of the songs played on the radio was made by him. He used a lot of synths, like CS80, Oberheim 8 Voice, Minimoog and, of course, the lovely Yamaha CP70 + Chorus, his '"trademark". His horns arrengements was badass! The "Brazilian Jerry Hey". Greetings from Brazil!
In a time when you used to stare at album covers and imagine how you favorite artists lived and made music wayyyy before social media. Great breakdown of a great band. Props
The Robson Jorge & Lincoln Olivetti album in the back is absolutely fire!
Dude, I'm a big EWF fan and was around when all this history was actually happening AND you still manage to tell me things I never knew - all in the most entertaining way! Keep doing what you do! You're a modern day Casey Kasem (look him up if you don't know!)

Earth, Wind & Fire (along with Kool & The Gang) are the most underrated bands ever! And the tracks that everyone knows them for aren't even close to being their best. EW&F did tracks like "Can't Let Go" and "Shining Star". Kool & The Gang did tracks like "Open Sesame" and "Hollywood Swinging". Legends!
EWF is my favorite band, and Verdine is my favorite bassist... mainly because he knows how to play within his mistakes. He not the perfectly accurate bassist, but can anyone imagine EWF with any other bassist? His playing is part of the soul of this amazing group. Listen to Sunshine from Gratitude album to hear Verdine's genius and greatest. Just sublime.

"September" is a re-working of sorts of the song "Whole Lot of Shakin", which Maurice White and Al McKay wrote for The Emotions. It appeared on the Emotions album "Sunbeam" months earlier. Btw, I gotta disagree about "September" ever being a filler song. For that a better example is "Love Music" which also is on the same greatest hit album. It's an average song at best, but EWF's signature stamp makes it better than it should have been.

in the Philippines, when september comes, they play this masterpiece on radio and in malls, w/c signifies the start of the celebration of the Christmas season in that country. booyah!
You weren't even there and you nailed it! Perfectly! The greatest hits album was so awesome, it my playlist, too funny I never thought about it that way! I saw them three times in concert mid to late 70s. They put on the best show to packed arenas, they were so fresh and the music was uniquely empowering. This is when it pays to be old I saw EW&F in their prime. Great job on this one, you're do such a great job, really appreciate all your background knowledge and humor! Can't believe you never came across my radar before. glad you finally did, thank you!
I think personally Got to Get You Into My Life is their best filler song but it's kind of crazy that they have two killer filler songs in the same album
Just discovered your content yesterday. I was never a history person when it came to music but you've made it informative and entertaining! Keep up the good work. p.s I'm digging all your song/artist choices so far!
Just found the channel and I love how genuine you are with how you're talking about everything. Started from the (Serato) Stems and now I'm here
Congrats on 10K! And dude your channel is so dope. This is probably the 4 or 5th video that I've watched and I love that you love Earth Wind Fire too. Many years I bought the cassette single of Got To Get You In To Life at a thrift store. Ever since then I've just loved that song. Had never heard it on the radio that I can recall before playing that tape. I didn't find out it was a Beatles cover til way after that. And then you got Dilla videos too! Your channel is gonna blow up! You got it bro!
The Bee Gees killed it sounding like the early Beatles, Peter Frampton always kills it and Billy Preston doing Get Back is just lights out music. He's even the best part of the movie. Yes, Earth, Wind and Fire rule too, the moviecaucks but the soundtrack is classic. Don't be knocking the Bothers Gibb. ;p Love the channel, brotha
Can't wait for more content, Im so glad your channel exist

EWF sounded sequenced & quantized before there were such things. Truly unbelievable live shows. Their concerts were like going to the circus. Note for note the greatest R&B band of all time.
Just found you! Awesome breakdown!! Love it!!
wsup! great energy/vibe/info. Found you today and subscribed!

Thank you for a great history lesson on one of my favorite bands of all time!
Man, really enjoyable video, thanks a lot!
As someone who has loved EWF since I was a kid roaming through my dads vinyls (early 30s now) but never really thought much about origin or stories about their music I really love your commentary. Also find it hilarious that they add a new track to begin with to a greatest hits compilation. Regardless of it being a fantastic track :D
Just wonderful I have to say I never realised the mistake in the bass! I also think I may have played September a thousand times at weddings and parties I just love the groove of it and strangely over the past few years FUN FACt it has become a fan chant at Blackpool FC for one of our players Kenny Dougall Lyrics changed to 'Oh way oh...super Kenny Dougall...oh way oh...he never gives the ball awa- hay' Which gives me a reason to play it once again at the after match after parties 🥳 Great video 🙂🙂
Big up. Lovin the content 🔥
Another great EWF video. Props for acknowledging Allee Willis as well.
Watching random youtube videos this Sunday morning and this one is very informative and entertaining. As for "September" I can play it at any gig and it would get the crowd dancing.

Love EWF. Wonderful video!
The first time I heard EWF's 1971 album 'The Need of Love', it blew my mind! It's raw, deeply funky, and drawing on everything from soul and jazz to psychedelic rock. So very different to their big hit singles. The opening track is like Sun Ra covering the JBs (or maybe the other way around).
I love this channel
