The Greatest Band That Never Made It. (Jellyfish)

Ойын-сауық

Allow me to introduce you to one of my favourite bands - Jellyfish. Unfortunately, they didn't seem to reach the level of success they deserved. A lot of you who watch this channel have also remarked about how much you love Jellyfish. They were incredible. Was their lack of success just bad timing, appearing at the end of Glam and the beginning of Grunge? Could they have gone on to become one of the biggest bands of our time? You tell me.

They are all still making music. Andy in the film industry, Roger solo, Lickerish quartet and playing for Beck, Jason Falkner’s solo stuff is genius and he has worked with Sir Paul, Travis is in Becks band and produces. Roger and Jason are sorely underrated artists. Still love Jellyfish. The two albums never get old.

No amount of praise is enough for this band! I'd also add: another amazing aspect to Andy Sturmer's acumen (aside from being the vocalist *and* the standing drummer of Jellyfish) is his lyrics, which are across-the-board brilliant. loaded with clever wordplay and colorful metaphors. Just every square inch of their records is well-considered and carefully appointed.

I actually remembering seeing the video for "The King is Half Undressed" on MTV back in the day. Unfortunately, I was chasing after heavier, darker music as a teenager in the early 90's. So, I pretty much lumped Jellyfish into the bin with the rest of the 120 Minutes alternative rock that looked too artsy and happy to me. Luckily for many of us, our musical tastes become more sophisticated as we get older, and now I can acknowledge the greatness of Jellyfish.

I was absolutely blown away by the music and the talent and the more I learned and heard the more impressed I became. Not only are the albums awesome but the band do actually pull it off live. They do sound as good as the record - if there are bits missing then that does not detract at all from the performance and the music. This is an awesome band and it is indeed an absolute tragedy that they did not get the success they so very clearly deserved.

At 48 years of age, there are few things in life that make me giddy...but one of them is someone [like yourself] from one of my favorite bands talking about how amazing another one of my favorite bands is [were]. I missed the boat on their first album but luckily was informed enough to jump in when "Split Milk" was released. I never did get a chance to see them live but the influence they had and me and my friends at the time and ever since is incalculable. Thank you for sharing!

This post gave me goosebumps and brought tears to my eyes! I loved loved loved them so much back in the day and honestly haven't thought about them in years neverming the revisiting they deserve. I was singing along to every word of each clip you shared and was instantly transported to being in the back of my best friends' parent's car in the summertime, going down the Jersey shore. We'd beg them to play the tape and they - being products of the '60s and rock listeners - also fell in love with them. Thank you so much for sharing them to a new audience and reminding me to give them another good listen!

I like these guys! I hadn't heard them before. Thank you, Justin. "New Mistake" reminds me a lot of Supertramp. There are so many bands out there who were genius and never made it big. I put it down to luck because there is no concrete way a band like this one didn't become rock gods. Rock is a very capricious boss.

This band is perhaps my favorite given the body of work available. Terrific. I listen to them with regularity. Poor management, lack of general exposure, insufficient airplay? I love the influences I hear in their music but truly original. A rare group for sure. New Mistake might be my favorite song.

2:30 min: The harpsichord - The Beatles used it much earlier than Queen, for example "Fixing a Hole" (1967) or "Piggies" (1968). I saw Jellyfish for the first time in the early 1990ies on German TV and I was completly flashed! What a great and undeserved underated band! Three great singers (Sturmer, Manning, Falkner)! The lead singer the drummer, playing while standing! They mashed up the influences of late Beatles, late Beach Boys, Queen and pre-commercial Supertramp and created their own phantastic sound. Until today I follow each member of the group. A re-unfication would be a dream become true. Thank you for this clip and best regards from Braunschweig, Germany.

Saw Jellyfish twice: 15 July 1991 - a sold out show at The Duchess of York, Leeds when they were in the UK for a show with INXS at Wembley Stadium. The Duchess held maybe 200 people. They were touring the debut. Jason Faulkner & Chris Manning were still in the band. 17 May 1993 - Leeds Metropolitan Uni supporting Spilt Milk, with Eric Dover & Tim Smith in the band. The Lemon Trees featuring Guy Chambers who wrote Robbie Williams' hits & Paul Stacey, of Oasis. Jellyfish were fantastic..... but I do think that their legend has far surpassed the reality.

After seeing the video for That Is Why back in the day, I jumped on their bandwagon and never looked back. I've bought nearly everything they ever released, despite being just as into what was in fashion back then. I think people got it, but the timing was off, and the radio and tv was wall to wall grunge by the time Spilt Milk came out. Top 5 all time album for me. And New Mistake is a perfect song. Unbeatable.
