Long intro is to give time for the universe to form and our planet to spin into existence. That is the one, the Uilleann pipes. You heard it correctly. At the beginning of the last section Tuomas plays the melody to Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" and at the end of the section you hear 2 riffs from Metallica "Enter Sandman". This is Tuomas' way of paying tribute to the evolution of music from calssical to metal. Yes the final song. A song about 4.6 billion years of evolution. The Greatest Show on Earth is "Life"! Wonderful job my man! as usual! Peace and be well.

I love that Tuomas gives a lightspeed history of western music right in the middle. Everyone that I've watched react to this catches the Metallica riff, a few catch the two Bach quotes, but no one so far has noticed that the first musical quote is the Gregorian chant Dies Irae, one of the most influential and quoted melodies in all of western classical music. In the space of a few moments, Tuomas bridges hundreds of years of musical greatness. I love how his mind works!

I also think it's because it's less easy to catch it during a live performance as the instrumentals get drowned out by audience noise and stuff. To add, the whole sequence begins with tribal chanting then to Gregorian chanting from Dies Irae, to Bach, to Metallica then to the bassline (EDM-ish sounding beat) of Wish I Had An Angel.

The _"We were here!"_ part is, to me, the most primal, visceral motivation for any form of human artistic expression. Why did the Cro-Magnon paint cavewalls? Why do people carve their names into stones, and trees, on elevator doors and bathroom tiles? Why do artists create? In the end, after we're gone, this is all that remains of us: a physical mark of our brief time we spent on Earth, so that we might not be forgotten.

Gonna tell you a story Padawan, Tuomas was going to end Nightwish because of the backlash he got from firing Tarja his childhood bff, his current bff Tony Kakko lead singer of Sonata Arctica/ maestro actual RL knight took Tuomas hiking and said "you end Nightwish over my dead body". If you check out Tony's IG tonykakko_official that's Tony, he is a very up front guy & giant nerd & goofball. Tony doesn't quit & doesn't care what people think of him. He does what makes him happy. His band has been criticized for not staying Power Metal. Tony is like meh don't care. I love Tony & Tuomas because they both will push boundaries. They both go meh we do what we want. She's fantastic, super talented, has a nice tone to her voice, can switch well and perform in many styles and she's a humble person. But none of that makes her the best, that's so super subjective. There's women that go higher, that go lower, that have more grit, are even more angelic, more versed in opera or rap or vocal slides. Floor is just fantastic because she does all these things to a very high level. But she can't compete with people who do only 1 thing and studied and trained it to perfection. I've got a big question in my mind about this part, from the first time I heard this song. Maybe someone from Finland could help me. Before the Enter Sandman's riff, there is the Tuomas part which is From Bach "Toccata and Fugue in D minor". The fact is, when I was young there was a cartoon which explains the history of humanity, from the very beginning (from the big bang to now). The opening of this cartoon was the "Toccata and Fugue in D minor", but it was a french cartoon, I don't know if it was played in other countries, and if Tuomas used it as a tribute, or if it's just a coincidence, as the song is the story of the world. I'm gonna ask this in other "Greatest show on earth" reactions, because it's really something I want to know. This is the opening I speak about for curious people: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lpqirsNtcpC2kso.html

First of all, congrats for the 10k subs. This song hits me really hard and makes me very emotional everytime I watch/hear it. Watery eyes and running nose during 20+ minutes. It has this powerful meaning that invites you to reflect a lot. "We were here", those three words hits you.

Thank you for this wonderful video! Really worth all the wait and preparing, aye! 🤘 To be completely honest, I'm a little surprised your head didn't just pop off from your shoulders and roll to the ground, but hey, that would've been pretty unhealthy, so you were lucky! I dislocated my jawbone at this very concert, totally worth it though! It's been really fun following your journey with Nightwish - this isn't the end, but a milestone for sure. Ten thousand congratulations for 10k subsribers, all well deserved! Here's for the next ten thousand, cheers! 🍻🥳

Yeah, that song holds so many little secrets you don't get at first, and its meaning is the best thing about it, I think. There's still many incredible surprises to come in shorter songs though, so don't ever worry about that with this band. ;)

The Enter Sandman riff immediately proceeded the vocal line about man trying to understand a single grain of sand - that grain of sand is a metaphor for the earth, a la Carl Sagan's pale blue dot. I have always wondered if it was Tuomas' idea, since he is such a mastermind when it comes to composition - or perhaps it was Empu's?

I enjoyed the super intro, ha ha Further more, one of the things I like about reaction videos, is to share my enjoyment of music and other content with others. And it's so wonderful when people like yourself so obviously enjoy the content you watch. Thank you for sharing the moment. Of course when a reactor dislikes something I like, I can find joy in hearing another point of view, so yeah. It's probably more than that.

Thank you! @ 21:26 you are the first reaction I've heard mention other styles. As the song highlights the evolution of man, the hidden theme is the evolution of music. You can hear the harpsichord of Bach's Minuet in G M, followed by Metallica's Enter Sandman and the eventual house music. That hidden gem alone blew my mind.

Hey, You asked about the instrument Troy played at the end of the intro and it is a bagpipe, but they are called the Uillean Pipes and they are a typical Irish bagpipe, and you don’t have to blow in the bag to create a sound, but you can play the pipes with your elbow, that’s why they are called the Uillean Pipes (it was traditionally a word in celtic). And yes, The Greatest Show on Earth is also one of my favourites and I still have to cry every time at the “We Were Here” part.

Great reaction PF ! I really think you nailed it by saying " Not only was this the Greatest Show on Earth, but possibly they are the Greatest Band on Earth ! ". Most certainly Yes !
