The Great Council of 233 - Election Night in Westeros

Фильм және анимация

The election series makes its return, pretend this wasn't filmed months ago. I'm putting theory on the description to perform algoromancy.

Every major ruler in ASOIAF was written with some major character flaw (as seen from the perspective of a modern audience), even the good ones: Stannis’s unyieldability, Robert’s gluttony, Jaehaerys’s parenting skills. It is odd that Aegon V’s reign is seemingly only marred by Summerhall. It wouldn’t surprise me if GRRM was not trying to tell the story of Dunk and Egg, but rather one of a commoner rising to Lord Commander through merit and seeing his ward grapple with absolute power (and we all know absolute power corrupts absolutely).

Also, yes the whole “one Targaryen twin accidentally killed her brother/husband and later took her own life after an assassination attempt” really drives home how we need Fire & Blood Vol. 2, there may be fewer dragons but the second half of this dynasty is no less wild.

I know this is so down the tin foil rabbit hole, but you can make a parallel with Maester Aemon and Sam being in charge of counting the votes at a major election and messing with said votes behind the scenes

The attack on Aelora that led to her suicide might not have been an assassination attempt.

When he opened his eyes the Other's armor was running down its legs in rivulets as pale blue blood hissed and steamed around the black dragonglass dagger in its throat. It reached down with two bone-white hands to pull out the knife, but where its fingers touched the obsidian they smoked. Sam rolled onto his side, eyes wide as the Other shrank and puddled, dissolving away. In twenty heartbeats its flesh was gone, swirling away in a fine white mist. Beneath were bones like milkglass, pale and shiny, and they were melting too. Finally only the dragonglass dagger remained, wreathed in steam as if it were alive and sweating. Grenn bent to scoop it up and flung it down again at once. "Mother, that's cold." "Mist" Sam struggled to his knees. "He will be mist." He giggled, and cried, and doubled over to heave his courage out onto the snow. A Storm of Swords - Samwell I

2:01:28 TOM. ZAC. IT JUST CLICKED. The Old Town faction installed Maegor at the Citadel once they’d surrendered. To protect him. Once he swore Maester’s vows, he was no longer a threat to Egg or Egg’s line. I think Marwyn may actually be neutral re: wanting the throne for himself, but is pro Targ generally, just like Aemon

Maekar died during the Peake Uprising supposedly at Starpike Egg was the fifth child. One of his sisters was younger. Re: Daenora… what is the rate of Targaryen women dying in childbirth again? My assumption is that she died giving birth to Maegor.

Zac is entirely correct. The Sworn Sword is the best Dunk and Egg novella by a mile.

MGMT and obscure Westerosi politics in one video, it must be my birthday. But seriously this is a brilliant analysis and the council of 233 ac is one of the most under-explored mysteries. I think the main question now is what Marwyn will do when he meets Dany considering all of these shenanigans.

I imagine Aenys Blackfyre could have accepted the invitation expecting to lose. Maybe prove his legitimacy to the realm, maybe just prove it to his backers in Tyrosh. Maybe see how little Blackfyre support is left, get Bittersteel off his (and his nephews') backs, and earn the right for his family to return to Westeros. Maybe get a consolation prize for offering himself up as an 'honored guest' at court, discouraging his brothers and nephews from attempting another invasion. Maybe he even wants to make his case for him to marry Daenora, combining her and little Maegor's better inheritance claims with him being a man, also joining the divided factions together. Come to think of it, unless marriage wasn't an option, Aenys Blackfyre would have probably argued for Daenora's or Vaella's birthright and his own competence (and favorability amongst great lords, and manhood). Maybe beheading him wasn't just disqualifying him, and not just sending a message to Blackfyres and their supporters . . . but also sending a message to any would-be king consorts who might try to push Daenora or Vaella's claims.

Further evidence for this theory. Sarella Sand (student of Marwyn) about Aemon's death" He could have told us much and more about his father's reign and his uncle's". What info could Marwyn want to know about Aemon - perhaps the truth of what happened that probably died with him. I'd love you to return to the fog of this period of Westerosi history but I understand it's so complex and obscure that it's hard to theorize.

No mention of Danelle Lothston? She seemingly is sided with Bloodraven but then goes crazy and has to be put down. Could her madness been seeded by an anti Bloodraven faction?
