The Gospel

The New Testament contains four ancient biographies of Jesus of Nazareth, and altogether they are called “the Gospel.” Each one tells the story as an announcement of good news that the crucified and risen Jesus is the true ruler of the nations. In this video, we explore why these accounts were written and how you can read them with greater insight.

Mystery Truth Yeah we should read them often and I do (maybe not in the same way as you) but now I’ll have a fresh perspective. For me, life experiences, interacting with believers (and non believers alike) of varying and opposing views give me insight on things I may not have noticed and appreciation for others that I probably wouldn’t gain from just a scheduled rereading. But we all have our own unique experience with God and His word and that’s a very beautiful thing.

@@lamasabachthani2132 Your questions have been answered many times out there. The short answer is, the Gospels provide 4 different perspectives for 4 types of audiences. Virtually everything the Gospels talk about was common knowledge among Christians in Israel (ponder this and connect some dots). They shared what they know with others to complete what others lacked. The Gospels came to record what all Christians knew, and the purpose was to have a document verified by others so that they could be read by everyone who came after those Christians died. Not only that, but they were also written so that both new and existing Christians in other parts of the world could read an account of what happened without having to wait for witnesses to travel just to tell the story once it twice. Like I said above, the 4 Gospels are written to 4 different audiences, thus they are written from 4 different perspectives. That's why the contents are in a thematic order instead of a chronological order. That's also why some information is omitted. That's also why the wording can be different for the same events (e.g. the Sermon of the Mount and the soldier that pierced Jesus's side). Apologists provide more details than the video you just watched. Because the gospels were written at different times, they also try to answer questions raised by the gospels that came before. For instance, think about John's Gospel: apparently there were groups of people who were skeptical about Jesus being divine even after all that He said as recorded in the Matthew, Luke, and Mark. So John came along and wrote an account that emphasizes the divinity of Jesus. Just think about John 1:1.

@@lamasabachthani2132 So not including an earthquake makes it invalid? Did you read what I said? It was included in the other Gospel so there was no need to restate something as plain as "there was an earthquake." No questions were raised about this event so no need to address this topic again. If you want another primary source, Thallus wrote about the earthquake.

@@ChristOurKing When He was raised from the dead, it was the inauguration of the "new creation" (in approximately 30 AD). But the "new creation" was fulfilled (consummated) 40 years later when the apostate Old Covenantal world/temple was destroyed in divine judgement in 70 AD. The "new creation"/New Covenant age began. The righteous remnant of Israel were of coming out of the Old Covenant creation (guided by Torah) and into the New Covenant creation (guided by the Spirit), which is without end.

@PrimeHollow666 Very good, it is both! It can be prescribed a label like every other religion. But what we have here is unlike any other religion! Christians might passively say they do not practice "religion" but that is just because religion is not what the bible, what Christ teaches. At least not the religion we see today. Matter fact, Jesus was the antagonist of the religion of his time. The Jewish religious power of the day, teachers of The Law. Who knew the scriptures but not the power therein. Having the appearance of godliness but denying its power. If they were of the truth and knew the Father, they would have known the Son of Man. You can actually trace the sanhedrin and the pharisees to modern day freemasonry kabbalah... AKA Mystery Babylon Religion. That's another topic for another time but I'd be happy to discuss it with you! Yes, there are those in the Christian Religion that give the bible a bad rep. They are Christian by title only; but inwardly are wolves. Nothing new under the sun. Don't ever let people discredit the gospel. Examine it yourself. And see what the spirit has to say. He who has ears- let him hear.

In the New Testament there are four biographies of Jesus of Nazareth about his announcement of God’s Kingdom, his crucifixion, and his resurrection from the dead. Altogether they are called “the Gospel,” that is, the good news. But why are there four, and why do they differ in various details? The four New Testament Gospel accounts all come from the first generation of Jesus’ closest followers, preserving the testimony of his disciples. But each account was designed to emphasize different themes and claims about Jesus, so that the reader of all four narratives walks away with a much richer picture. In Luke 1:1-4 and John 20:30-31, the authors tell us they selected only some of the narratives and teachings of Jesus that were available among their sources. They also say that the stories have been arranged to persuade the reader that Jesus is the Messiah of Israel and the risen Lord of all nations. In other words, the Gospel accounts are not simply an ancient version of security camera footage! The authors want us to accept their testimony about Jesus as truthful, but their purpose is not only to give us information about the past. They deeply believe that Jesus is alive, that he fulfilled the ancient story told in the Hebrew Scriptures, and that following him will change your life forever! The four Gospels are persuasive texts that invite you the reader to consider your own relationship to this Jesus. If you’re interested in taking your own reading of the four Gospels to the next level, check out our recent video on How to Read the Gospel, as well as our podcast series that takes a deeper dive into these four books of the New Testament.

@Joseph Paul Whether Jesus was omniscient while in human form is an open question as he "emptied himself" of some divine attributes in order to become man. (Philippians 2:7) That said, "not knowing the hour" doesn't mean what you think. The phrase comes from wedding language (which runs throughout the Gospels - Jesus' wedding to the Church is theme of the text). In first century custom, "no one knew the hour" of a wedding because it didn't official happen until the father of the bride said so. However, everyone did know the when the wedding was happening in reality because they had to plan ahead and travel to the place and so on. Thus, the text means that the authority to call the final judgment is reserved for the Father. It does not actually mean that Jesus doesn't have the knowledge of the date. I hope that helps.

Bravo to the art and animation team. The halftone consistency and subtle parallax in the cells were extremely well done and beautiful. The writing and teaching is good enough to stand alone, but the artwork elevates the educational element to a greater height. Thank you for the dedication.

I just watched a video that was presented by what I would call a neo-arian...well 3 videos trying to show how the divinity of Jesus started as somewhat mystical and ended in john as being totally mystical. This will be a well timed video as I am currently engaged in a battle with a fallen brother who thinks that Jesus wasn't divine till the council of nicea. very excited to see what you guys brought.

@J That is some interesting commentary about Nicea, would be interested to know more. But as it is, my brother who has fallen away from the lord seems to desire truth, but he is now beholden to level 1 and 2 atheistic talking points. The council of nicea being one of them. The 3-part video series i watch was from Bart Erhman. it was a good bit of info. and the info in there has only embolden my faith more, but for my fallen brother, he sees it as slam dunk evidence that Christ's divinity was fabricated. Please, if you have the time, send me a link or a suggestion in getting more info on the early church. in particular the council of nicea.

@@higginswalsan its a compelling argument for those uninformed. If you ever debate christianity in anyway, someone will eventually argue 1 of like 3 major things from nicea. 1. Christ wasn't divine till then. (lie, and not just cause the bible says so) 2. most of the new testament was conceived of or canonized at nicea, (lie again. Polycarp or ignatius i believe quoted from or directly referenced the writings of paul, john and peter...and did so exhaustively save 2 books, hebrews, which we know was canonized later and...cant remember the other one. 3. Christianity in total was a complete fabrication and was a means to subdue the masses...except, again, this was a lie, most all the books of the new testament can be dated prior to council of nicea.
