It should be called the Anti-Hero, the bad, and the evil. However this doesn't quite have the ring to it that the original does. Don't forget that part where they are bringing the dynamite down to the bridge and they see 2 union soldiers carrying a man on a stretcher, stop, and turn around and beat them up and knock the dude off the stretcher just so they could carry the dynamite a little easier. I really don't understand why Sergio decided to put that scene in there because it just seemed completely unnecessary and totally uncharacteristic of "the man with no name" to do something like that. In the first movie he is a full fledged hero who risks life and limb more than once to save people while getting only food as payment.

People, could we take a moment to appreciate how extraordinary Eli Wallach's acting was in this scene in particular? He was outstanding all along, mind you, because his character was so colourful and endearing, but here, he outdid himself. The way he calls "Blondie!" while choking, panting, half enraged and half terrified by the prospect of his death, and at some point he sounds like he's sobbing. He totally nailed it. An amazing actor Eli was, I'm so happy he lived such a long life.

@@Michael15_25 Indeed. I still have a soft spot for Lee Van Cleef too. He was bloodcurdling as Angel Eyes, and charismatic as hell in any case.

I do love the triple message of how Blondie sets up Tuco. First - "Here's your share so you don't think I cheated you." Second - "I could have killed you, so you owe me." And Finally - "I can shoot a rope from the back of a saddle at this range. Don't think about following me."

Humm, kind of tricky. I'll take for granted you and I and all of us have seen the movie aa 1000 times. By eliminating the possibility of that THIRD gun in that 3 man duel he was able to concentrate on Angel Eyes. He NEVER intended to kill Tuco. He intended to split the share but had to get that one last hurdle out of the way. But your 3rd observation just made good sense because all that money was involved. He just wanted a good head start out of there.

Perfect summary. Blondie and Tuco made a deal. Blondie reneged. Tuco almost killed him as a result. Blondie realized that he reneged on the deal. Blondie also realized that Tuco was a rat. But a rat with a conscience.

well Blondie couldn't be trusted either. Previously he double crossed Tuco, too. None of the them is really good or totally bad. They are all very flawed, but Blondie is just less flawed than the 2 others, Tuco is the most sympathetic because we learn from his brother for his traumatic past and he serves as comic relief on many ocassions and Angel eyes is the man we love to hate!

I’m 61. I saw this movie when I was about 10 years old. Great times and awesome memories without a care! Going to the movies every weekend was such a great treat! Thanks mom for always making sure my brothers,sisters and I never wanted for anything! Not sure how you brought up six of us on a waitresses salary! R.I.P. mom.

How Tuco stands is symbolic. He stands and hangs unsteadily on a cross with the gold right in front of him. If he succumbed completely to greed, he would lean towards the gold and die. Can we really control our greed even when knowing there is a rope around our neck?

To me Tuco running for 3:21 minutes all around the cemetery to find the grave, and Ecstasy of Gold playing in the background is iconic masterpiece scene for me. I dunno why maybe it's the music or just that greed,desperation and fear on his face all at once. That scene alone is an entire movie's worth to me.

That scene is about finally getting what he strove for. What all of us strive to get (though that differs from person to person.) I firmly doubt, after getting his half, which at that time was a tremendous amount of money ($100,000) he would blow it all away and be poor. He likely gave up the life of a bandit and put away his gun and invested it in a ranch and bought cattle and flipped over his money. You want proof? Go watch the scene of the Magnificent Seven and the speech made my VIN (Steve McQueen) "Yeah. First day we got here, I started thinking: Maybe I could put my gun away, settle down, get a little land, raise some cattle. Things that these people know about me be to my credit - wouldn't work against me. I just didn't want you to think you were the only sucker in town."

Two of the best roles in movie history. CALVERA (the Magnificent Seven) and TUCO. Sergio Leone was no idiot. He knew who was the most important cast member and spent much of the directing and script on Wallach.

Prior to this movie and even some time after, the academy looked down on spaghetti westerns and didn't even consider them. Years later hollywood would be trying to emulate them.

As iconic as the Man with No Name is, Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez (known as The Rat) is one of the greatest characters to grace the silver screen. He is a hilarious comic relief, a sympathetic underdog, a greedy opportunist and a resilient badass all rolled into one. You love him, hate him, root for him, laugh at him, learn from him and connect with him. He is extremely well-written, full of personality and depth and was brought to life to maximum perfection by the Oscar-worthy Eli Wallach. He is the reason The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is the cinematic masterpiece it is, other than Sergio Leone's direction and Ennio Morricone's music.

Tuco is absolutely the protagonist of this movie, Blondie is amazing, but whereas we see snippits of Blondie's character shine, we get a very big focus on Tuco, he's the focus of both the start and the end of the movie and he's the one subject to the main character growth in the movie, whereas Blondie was probably going to gun for Angel Eyes, knowing he was the bad guy here, Tuco was a wildcard, he had almost killed Blondie a bunch of times, while Blondie looks calm as ever Tuco legit looks like he wants to blow Blondie's brains out, but he doesn't and manages to trick angel eyes with the con that he's always done with Blondie. Such a great character from such a great actor. RIP

It's Tuco, he probably hide the most of the money and only have some of them and head to the nearest town to get a horse and come back for the rest.

@@FatherManus that whole part was to show how blondie was effected by the war, he gains a respect for life in that part, and it’s shown that he’s become the “good” as he gives the cigar to the dying soldier.

I am grateful to Sergio Leone and to all the production for never having made a sequel to this wonderful film...Paganini does not repeat!

Eli Wallach's Tuco is one of the funniest and most charismatic characters in any movie I have ever seen. Perfect match for that role. His facial expressions alone make me laugh each time I watch the movie. You cant help but to like Tuco. Hes just way too funny and badass at the same time.

The very first time i watched this movie, the ending with poor Tuco standing there on the cross, rope round his neck, i actually felt sorry for him. This film was utterly brilliant. From the music score, to the actors. This is THE best western ever made.

Tuco was definitely a jerk, but Blondie was the one who first tried to leave him to die an agonizing death in the desert. Makes you question his morality.

Blondie is definitely not as good as the title would try to have us think, but he's still better than Tuco and Angle Eyes in morality in my opinion. Blondie at least save people's lives and sometimes give them second chances compared to Angle Eyes who kills anyone ruthlessly for greed, and Tuco (though admittingly the film's best and most sympathetic character) who double crosses anyone when given the chance to.

That was the director, Sergio Leone's subtle way of saying that the US isn't always the absolute force of justice it purports to be. History gets written by the winners, and sometimes the winner is "just a dirty son of a Wa Ah Ah Ah Ahhhhhh".

Tucos face when he thinks it might be the end of the line for him when he’s trying to stay on top of the grave makes me feel bad for him.

Blondie is a true hero. He taught Tuco a lesson but showed mercy at the same time. That’s a real hero.

Tuco is very resourceful. He will make it out of the desert with the loot. But he will get boozed up in a brothel and have it all stolen from him. Those damn brothels.

@@eazye088 I can just imagine how awkward that would be though if you always did that and people be wondering "Why is that man bringing a gun into a tub?" but also realistically the gun has a chance of jamming since it's underwater.

Blondie wants Tuco to appreciate him for his partnership, honor (in so far as he recognizes that he has any) and for his skill and smarts. Tuco was outsmarted, outmaneuvered, and outmanned. The money is his (Tuco’s) because, in a way, it isn’t just about payback, it’s about the fact that he got paid. And, it serves for Blondie to leave Tuco, at least for now.

Eli Wallach’s portrayal of Tuco was masterful. If his performance suffered, the quality of the movie may have dipped a bit. He was pretty much the glue of the movie.

Blondie and Tuco had a real bond.

Eli Wallach's acting with his eyes is amazing! They convey so much fear and hopelessness.

I love how all the characters have different toned themes throughout the movie. Blonde has a lighter more heroic theme symbolizing his Good morals. Angel Eyes has a Darker and more villainous theme symbolizing that he has no morals Tuco is somewhere in the middle with his loud and wild theme, he is a scumbag, but he has some morals. And that mix of both makes him my favorite character.

My undying love of Westerns began when my father introduced me to the genre with this timeless classic as a kid. He passed away this year (2021) after a Covid-induced heart attack.

Let's say as a supposed covid, which is better, goes. I see that there are still a lot of people willing to believe nonexistent things. When you are of a certain age and have a heart condition, a simple flu can be fatal. Exactly one of my relatives died this way in a non-"suspicious" time, which was in 2018.

There is no finer ending, Sergio Leone the master.

This scene, this bloody scene right here, is easily one of my most favourite scenes in cinema ever; Jesus Christ, it truly had my heart doing all sorts of things. I didn’t even know what I wanted to happen- until it happened. Eli Wallach, you absolute beauty. Thank you thank you thank you so much for this portrayal; you truly elevated this movie from being good, to downright legendary. God it’s amazing what good cinema can do to one’s soul!

I’m 70 years old and watched this movie for the first time in my life. I have TWO WORDS to describe my feelings - EPIC MASTERPIECE. I would love to see this in a theater on a really BIG screen remastered of course. As it was I watched in on a new 85” tv we just bought. In fact this was the first movie we watched on it.

There's no dull moment in every part of this move. Watching it the first time in 1982, i still find it extremely difficult after 17 years of watching, to erase it from my memory.

This made the movie for me. Still makes me laugh out loud.

I’m 18 and I actually watched this movies after watching a show with a friend. After he left I had the screen still on and saw this and gave it a shot. I had never seen an old western movie and I was conflicted with interest. But by the end I was left on the edge of my seat and so emotional.

I swear eli Wallach should have won Oscar for this last shot. Priceless

One of the best endings EVER to a movie. Sergio Leone was a filmmaking genius for sure. And great acting partularly by Eli in this ending scene. Really terrific.

He just wanted Tuco to sweat a lil bit but in the end Blondie played fare 😂😂. CLASSIC

My favorite movie period. (Not even a big western fan) I’ve seen it around 10-15 times, it’s epic and it’s perfect.

I always thought Eastwood was good at playing characters in a western setting

his characters are pretty cut and dry easy to play and be convincing with the right amount of under playing which clint has down pat

great story , great characters , great music , great actors ... best film ever made

2:30 is what Quentin Tarantino used in Django. It hit me like a rock.

This scene felt like a forever, Tuco was my favourite character

Eli Wallach. The greatest actor. In the greatest movie of all time.

R.I.P Ennio Morricone He was good Not bad And sure of a *HELL* ain’t ugly

It is a superb ending, a movie full of plots and sub plots driven by three wonderful actors and characters. Wallach was amazing in this film, if it had been an Hollywood production it would have won a dozen Oscars, Leone along with Morricone were masters of their craft. Thanks Sergio for a truly outstanding film.

Eli Wallach stole the show. Hands down best character in the movie.

Truly one of the greatest film endings ever.
