I've always wondered if that was a real steel shovel that Angel Eyes threw at Tuco near the end when Tuco was digging the grave. It missed him by less than an inch! Could have/would have done some damage if it hit him.

Haha, when Tuco cuts the cuffs chain with the train wheels, nobody had realised there were steps on the wagons sides, going down to one foot from the ground... If Eli Wallach had just raised his head a bit, he would have gotten beheaded. He refused to shoot a second take. He was truly frightened how Sergio Leone wasn't caring about security. Not intentionally, of course : he just wasn't thinking about that and didn't have any specialist in security issues in his staff... Probably a trait of that era. ^^ Lots of incidents actually happened... You're right, the shovel missed him but almost nothing and he could really have gotten hurt !

Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef were phenomenal in this movie, but Eli Walach was on a whole different level. You can't help but invest yourself in the character of Tuco. He's the underdog right from the start, all the way to the finish, but he's as far from being a pushover as you can get. Nobody walks on Tuco. Nobody. Great movie.

Someone wrote a novelisation of this movie. There was also a follow-up book (I forget the title) which had nothing to do with the original trilogy, but had the characters of Blondie and Tuco at it again, sometimes allies. sometimes enemies. It was the last line that's always stayed with me. Tuco's in jail again awaiting execution, but Blondie manages to yank the bars off his cell window, knowing as he does so that he might live to regret it: "but a world without Tuco would be a much less interesting place". Speaks for the power of the characterisation.

That actor was Al Mulock who played the one armed man, he was one of the gunmen in Once Upon a Time In The West along side Woody Strode and Jack Elam killed off by Charles Bronson’ s Harmonica in the beginning. Mulock jumped out of a 3rd story hotel window while on location for Once Upon A Time In The West and died on the way to the hospital.

I first saw this film on TV in 1973 on the ABC Sunday Night Movie. The film made a major impact on my life. Clint's Man with No Name, the way the film was shot , the music , the wind with the buzzards screeching etc. Chicks can be influenced by this film too ! I'm 57 yrs. old & still quote dialogue. Have the sdtrk, DVDs , Blue-Ray assorted Photos, books etc. on the film.

I remember when I was a little girl this movie would be on TV during the day on a Saturday or Sunday. My dad rarely watched a movie twice but he would watch these Clint Eastwood movies over and over. I remember laughing at the name of the movie when I found out the “ugly” was a character and thinking how embarrassing that would be to tell all my friends and family I’m starring in a movie as “the ugly”.. 😂😂

Excellent film and actors. I Iove Tuco, Clint and Angel Eyes but Ennio Morricone's musical score elevates it to a whole new level. There will Never be another film this cool. Without his music there would be no ahhhhah wa wa waa "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (main title)" music of the title track we all know so well and the music for the showdown in the cemetary "The Ecstasy of Gold". amongst others. The other songs are 2. "The Sundown" 1:12 3. "The Strong" 2:20 4. "The Desert" 5:11 5. "The Carriage of the Spirits" 2:06 6. "Marcia" 2:49 7. "The Story of a Soldier" 3:50 8. "Marcia Without Hope" 1:40 9. "The Death of a Soldier" 3:05 10. "The Ecstasy of Gold" 3:22 11. "The Trio (main title)"

It's like a mixture of Godfather, Scarface, Casino, Goodfellas, Bronx Tale, Once Upon a Time in the West, Italian Job, Ocean's 12, and the Sopranos. That's why they call it Spaghetti(Italian) Western. And they dont make this kind of film anymore.
