    I have both Peterson's and Skinner's editions and find both excellent but if I had to choose I'd easily go for Skinner's Dr Rudd.

    All my comments and answers to comments were deleted in the process of transferring all my videos to this new channel :( I'm usually quite good at keeping up with viewer questions, so that's quite a lot of info gone, I'm afraid. If you read a question below that you would like a direct response to, don't hesitate to ask it again, I'm actually quite likely to respond :)

    Hello, you seem very knowledgeable when it comes to Topics such as this, and I was wondering of you could be of assistance. I'm newer when it comes to this kind of stuff. I know a good bit of general things, but not much past that. I want to find a Translation of the "Key of Solomon" to study. Alot of versions have been written, which is amazing, but makes it difficult to find specifically what it is I'm looking for. I want something that's as accurate of a translation of the original as possible, something I can study and learn. Something that has nearly all. As close to the original written book as possible. I've been doing a lot of google delves to try and find something, but everywhere I turn people are saying different things. If you could help in any way, that would be so greatly appreciated. I hope to hear from you. - Regards

    @@bananadan3926 the thing with grimoires is that it's impossible to really talk about an 'original'. What we have are a number of manuscripts, all more or less (sometimes much less!) Covering the same material, but as they aren't prints from a file but rather one practitioner reading another practitioner's notes, and then omitting the stuff he (most likely he) disagrees with or already knows well, and adding stuff that he found elsewhere or discovered on his own, and then we'll have another manuscript in another country that's much closer to a completely different Grimoire, but has elements of the one you're looking at, etc. it all gets very messy! I can recommend The Veritable Key of Solomon by Stephen Skinner, the Clavis or Key to the Magic of Solomon by Joseph H. Peterson, and the recently released "The Sorcery of Solomon - a guide to the 44 planetary Pentacles of the Magician King" by Sara Mastros. Let me just confirm that you know that the Key of Solomon is also sometimes known as "The Greater Key of Solomon", and is unrelated to the so-called "Lesser Key of Solomon" aka "Lemegeton" that is the object of the book featured in this video (the Goetia of Dr Rudd).

    Thank you for the review , I agree with your comments "Peterson's version is best for educational purposes, and Skinner/Rankine's version is best for practice" and yes, the opposing Angel does bring some peace of mind .. Now have you a copy or can you do a review of S.Skinner D.Rankine A Cunning Man's Grimoire I've heard this is quite an interesting text, if possible, it would be greatly appreciated.

    I've read just 60 pages so far, and found some typographical errors, including a misspelled angelic name, which is a bit discouraging, given the cost of the volume. As Maître Poisson says, it seems as if Golden Horde Press isn't especially concerned about æsthetics...

  • @johnblake6500

    @johnblake6500

    Depends on the manuscripts....the errors are not coming from the publisher or the author, different manuscripts - different names on spirits, archangels etc. You will see this if you can compare Petersons' version with Skinner's, so to speak. Don't be disappointed.....just understand the circumstances.

    i actually really enjoy my golden hoard books. honestly watching your reviews before buying i got the impression they would be terrible. every single edition i hav had i have had to gorrilla glue the casing tighter as im sure you know it comes away from just one browse but i still feel very proud to own them. maybe its because i dont own that many in depth occult books. i do own a lot of folio society and easton press so i know a beautiful book, just not occult beautiful books. maybe thats why im so proud to have them.

    Hi Denis thank you for this review, forget what I told you on your past review of the Clavis. After seeing this I think the one from Joseph H. Paterson is more complete, plus cheaper. But still undecided from the Clavis from Skinner or Paterson. But all of them beautiful on their on way.

    Stephen Skinner has one pairing of the 72 shemhemphorash angles with the 72 goetics spirits; and Lon Milo Duquette has a different pairing as given in his "Tarot of Ceremonial Magick".....anyone know as to the origin and reasoning behind these two pairings systems. Of course, when conjuring goetic spirits it would be nice to invoke the correct guiding/ruling angel. Having these two pairing systems of Skinner and Duquette makes it confusing for me to pick which one to go with :-) If I land up in a looney bin....then you know I choose the wrong pairing lol.

  • @FoolishFishBooks

    @FoolishFishBooks

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi @Dylan Smith - i don't think you'll currently find anything more complete than this, whether you are looking at modern publications or indeed scouring the world's library archives for original manuscripts. Dr Skinner's work of compilation here is actually astounding, includes sections that others don't, at the expense of the Ars Notoria which he has now published as a separate volume. The Lemegeton of Joseph Peterson does include the Ars Notoria, but is much less comlete due to the lower number of ms included in the compilation. So your search for completeness depends on your desire to possess everything within a single book or if you are happy to own the Ars Notoria as a separate volume (or two, as I understand Dr Skinner is currently working on a second Ars Notoria book) Btw, you may know this already, but other viewers may not: while the Ars Notoria is traditionally included in the Lesser Key MS, Dr Skinner suggests (actually he doesn't suggest, he asserts, which annoys me 😂) that it shouldn't be because it's a working to speed up learning rather than for establishing communication with spirits (in my opinion, since the books of the Lesser Key should be worked in reverse from last to first, it makes sense as the first working to support all the rest - though in itself it is a huge undertaking!).
