It is Christmas when the Godfather is assaulted. On New Year's Eve, Michael moves the hospital bed and vows to be on the side of his father. The baker's daughter is having her baby then, so Enzo pays his respects. He carries flowers to see the Don but winds up standing with Michael on the hospital steps.

He is a great example of the friends of the Godfather, just like his FIL the baker. Enzo has a good life ahead of him in the bakery so there is no need for him to get into any kind of role with the family, but will always have their support and protection. The baker showed his friendship by making the wedding cake so he also had the freedom to ask a favor which was willingly granted. Enzo has done a great service to the Don so he also will be in their good graces. Even showing respect by bringing flowers to the hospital is a good thing.

The actor who played Fredo, John Cazale, made only 5 movies. All of them received the Oscar for Best Picture. He died before the last of those movies was released. All of his performances were very subtle and memorable (in Godfather Part 2 his character was very important to the plot). Everyone who worked with him was heartbroken when he died and wished he had time to give us more memorable performances.

This was so well-done. Back then the Italian mafia had "rules"... you left the families (wives and children) alone. You maintained a certain amount of public respectability. The scene that gets me is Michael in church saying the vows at his nephew's baptism, including rejecting Satan, while showing all the "hits" he ordered being carried out. His character really transformed.

Yeah, there is definity a drop off in Part 3. It's not terrible but it is nowhere near on the level of the first two. Speaking of which, this isn't a real popular opinion but I am of the belief that this movie is definitely better than Part 2. It would have been better if they had made either the early Vito storyline or the present Michael storyline Part 2 and the other storyline Part 3. To me trying to cram both of those storylines into one movie short changed each storyline. Part 2 is still a great movie but the original is flawless whereas I can nitpick Part 2 quite a bit.

@@HABIBIBROTHERS717 I think yall will really love part II. it’s half prequel (about vito’s early days and rise to power) and half sequel (showing michael as they focus more on the vegas casino business and ventures in cuba right before the revolution). it’s some truly brilliant storytelling, and it was the movie that launched robert de niro into a major name in hollywood. it’s widely regarded as the best sequel of all time, and many think it’s even better than the first godfather movie.

No one notices but early in the movie Tom said, "I'm as much a son to Pop as you or Mike". Even then everyone knew Fredo didn't count. Weak and dumb.

In that sense , the character was realistic. There were real-life mafia figures a lot like Fredo. They wanted the "good life" aspects of being in organized crime without getting their hands dirty.

The whole Johnny Fontane war movie bit is allegedly based on Frank Sinatra. The scuttlebutt is that Frank used his Mafia connections to land a role in the big, upcoming Hollywood WW II film: "From Here to Eternity" (1953). The film became a huge blockbuster that swept the Academy Awards. Frank Sinatra won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor that year and some argue it revived his flagging career. Most don't think there was a horse involved in the negotiations.

Veal is calf's liver pan fried with corn powder. Soak the veal in powder both sides, stick a fork to make holes so the meat can breathe, and leave it overnight at room temperature. Boil and scatter spaghetti with some tomato sauce. pan fry the veal. Put the veal on top. If you can't eat cow, try some lamb chops, put flour, and pan fried. Godfather II is also good as well as III. IV is okay and V is the worst.

Remarkable thing is "Godfather' transition to Godfather Part 2 is so seemless that the only difference is "I make 'im an offer he no refuse". All about "he who would strike a blow at the king, would best make it fatal".

Luca (the man practicing the lines at the wedding) in the movies has a minor role, and it is such a tragedy. Luca Brazi is an evil man who knows he was EVIL! Luca, before coming into service of Don Coleone, was his own boss for a small area who promised to kill Tom Hagan because Luca girl was trying to get Luca to go big time and had sex with Tom Hagan. When Vito tries to settle the bad blood, luca says no. Later, Luca girlfriend gets pregnant by Luca and has the nurse throw the baby in the house furnace, killing the baby. Then, he takes a bunch of pills to kill himself as he feels he is evil and should not produce more evil through his line. Vito learns of this and gets the charges dropped, and the nurse sent back to Italy. Luca is a bit slow in speech but follows Vito with all his mind and spirit until he dies.
