💬 LESSON DESCRIPTION:
In this video, I walk through The Girl From Ipanema guitar chords using the easiest possible shapes.
These are the official chords transposed to the key of 'A', but with a capo you can play it in any key.
For example, if you want to play it in the key of F (the key it’s most commonly played in), you can use the open-string chords I show you in this video and put a capo on the eighth fret.
This arrangement of The Girl From Ipanema is much easier to play than other versions because:
1) It doesn't include any barre chords and
2) It includes the use open strings wherever possible.
These two considerations make it much easier to be relaxed, and to sound smooth and connected when playing.
I show all the chords as written diagrams, including exactly which left hand fingers to use, and then I demonstrate each chord on the guitar so you can see and hear them.
At the end of the lesson, I demonstrate the chords with the melody on top so you can hear how good they sound in context.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial on The Girl From Ipanema guitar chords and found it beneficial.
Let me know what you thought in the comments.
Thanks! :)

Thanks for the generous sharing of your skills. I will try your system. As a person who has pleasurably but not very successfully played for 40 years, your method gives me new hope.
WOW ! What a generous gift you have given all of us looking for meaty chords that work, satisfy the ears and fingers. Thank you so much for providing myself and I suspect many many others who have found you here on KZread. I'm now inspired to put some serious time on my guitar to learn and apply this material. Your presentation is outstanding ! The methods and crystal clear explanations and demonstrations are flawless. I know just enough of music theory and chord construction to get myself into all kinds of trouble. The info you share here now gives me a much clearer understanding of it all as well as now having the delight of playing some really nice musical pieces. Again, thank you so much ! ! ! I am working with your course essentially covering basic music theory as applied to the guitar fret board. This course is opening my eyes to things only guessed at before. I'm 77 yrs old and I've been playing since I was 10. I've played in bands and taught guitar privately and in a studio. But I have to say that your KZread videos and course are spectacular. The work you've put into this effort is enormous and I for one greatly appreciate it. I expect to sign up for additional instruction, particularly the one you indicated would be posted next week (04-18-2022). Again, thank you for your efforts.

No it's not! It is not perfect! And I'll tell you why... (Ok; hear(!) goes...). TABLATURE and these homespun chord diagrams are often nothing more than a method of explaining complex and difficult concepts utilized by old school theorists in such a way that those who are laymen or novices can reproduce a tolerable facsimile or even a carbon copy of the "original" work. I liken them to a pacifier because they allow a person to perform a particular piece of music without understanding the THEORY inexorably connected to it! It's kind of like being able to spell without learning the alphabet. You know something sounds good, but you don't know WHY it sounds good. That, my friends, is what MUSIC THEORY teaches! It begins on a 2nd grade level and becomes more difficult as you progress. And you can earn a Ph.D in Theory, Music Appreciation, and beyond. Some of the Asian Ancients lived by and taught this Maxim: "He who understands Music (theory) can unravel the Secrets of the Universe!" There are no shortcuts.... So if you're out there playing Beethoven or Van Halen or Merle Haggard or The Celtic Women or even Frank Zappa or Bob Wills'; or even your own creations, yet you don't know the names of the notes in a C⁶ chord, you're depriving yourself of one the Greatest Aspects of Music Theory: UNDERSTANDING because knowing that something sounds good is no comparison to knowing WHY it sounds good! Throw away all your tablature. And those $2 song books which more often display incorrect chord progressions and/or lyrics than the author had intended. Cheap knockoffs is an accurate description. In other words: Tablature and other shortcuts are just cheap knockoffs because the underlying Theory isn't taught along with these "Learn to play overnight" type schemes and ripoffs. Study hard, and beware of what you listen, endorse, and subscribe to. Good luck. Work hard. Pay attention. Peace
Crazy really , this song came on my thumb drive, I was big into Stan Getz , and have always liked this song, but as a rock player never learned this style , well no time like the present. When Stan’s solo comes on it’s the epitome of laid back , RIP Astrid , check out her cover of beginnings by Chicago .
Thank you so much for your help ❤

Really great to follow this, been playing this song for years in such a "different" way, still starting out on Amin7 but mostly using full blown chords rather than just 2 or 3 note chords with other strings open or deadened. Playing solo I'm always tempted to "fill out the sound" with fuller chords as well as playing the bass notes where possible (bossa nova style). Just subscribed to your channel, excellent! PS I love open string stuff and usually stumble upon other superb sounding chords as I adore flamenco and dissonance and dabble with less complicated chords, meaning a bit less stretching to do!

Jared or anyone who would like to jump in: I can infer a lot from watching this video (and thanks for it). However, I would like to take a course or read a book that explains some of the concepts behind this. For example, I know a little music theory and standard music notation, and I understand the major scale and what it takes to make a major chord (and a 7th), but these chords (or at least naming them) is a lot more complex to decipher. Also, the "arrangement" sheet is completely foreign to me. Is that something specific to jazz? And finally, is iReal Pro also what Jared is using to do the chord diagrams? Thanks in advance.
SMOOTH!!!!

RANDY JUDAH TORREZ ❤️ Thank you very much for a fantastic Tutoria perfect 😀
This might sound like a silly question, but I'm having trouble with the strumming. I have to cut my finger nails down very,very short i think to do this? My fingernails are getting stuck on the strings, and i'm having a devil of a time doing it. Also, I'm doing it on an electric, so keeping the x 'd strings from making some sound is really tough. Just learning string muting, which is proving to be somewhat complicated. I get the technique at times, but it's still not second nature. Thank you very much for this video tutorial. I have been trying to learn doing the song on just with strings, and it's been really tough. Learning notes on the fretboard now, and that's also tough for me. Older, slower, and got sick with the flu, so it's impacted my memory a little.
@soundguitar

Hi there! thanks for the questions. I'd love to help. Are you actually "strumming" or plucking the strings with the fingertips and nails? Strumming would be very hard with these chord shapes. Should be plucking classical/fingerstyle. My advice would be different depending on your answer, so let me know and we'll take it from there. Also, here's a lesson on learning and finding the note names on the fretboard incase it helps with your other goal: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mopskq99pqqTh6Q.html
@joelstolarski2244

@@soundguitar I'll try figuring to pluck. It looked like you were strumming up from the high E, but I'll watch again to see if i missed the technique. I like the bossa nova sound. The chords really sound nice. It seems like a real fun genre to stay in, just because of that. Cut the fingernails down, and it's better.Thought i could use the fingernail sort of like a guitar pick. Maybe some old time pickers can do it, but I can't.
@soundguitar
3 жыл бұрын
@@joelstolarski2244 Thanks for the reply, that helps me to understand. No one really uses fingernails like a pick with the back of the nail, but for plucking you want to use the nail or just the fingertip and pluck from the knuckles contracting, so like the direction of making a fist. hope that makes sense. starting to do fingerpicking should help! here's a video on how to work on playing accurately with classical plucking technique with the right hand: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mmiEyLKiqtW3c7A.html and here's one about getting started fingerpicking: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h56KydhmiabMl5s.html just in case those help. let me know if you have any other questions anytime! The stacked fourths sound of the song paired with the 'standard' guitar tuning honor symmetrical chord shapes as ya found. Beside all the praise, there were some things that brother me: #1.
