Look, MJ was one of the greats but people need to stop hovering over him like he won those championships alone! It's a team sport and his role was to take the most shots but he didn't always take the last shot in the games he played. To me, saying that he is the GOAT, which is an opinion, not a fact, diminishes the other great players. Especially the ones he didn't play against. However, I do believe that he was the best player in the 90's or most of those years and he is the greatest SG and possibly the greatest Guard overall. His era ended in 98 and I moved on since then. Every era has a GOAT, based on accolades and rings. MJ can't be the GOAT in eras he never played in and the 80's was Magic's era for the most part. Players should worry about their own legacies because every career is different. Yeah, the media did overhype MJ and I hate all of that! The league even changed rules to make it easier for him and other perimeter players because they were looking for the next MJ. That started when he allegedly got suspended for that year and a half.

I think the nba has been selling the lebron vs jordan thing last few years to drum up interest and popularity in the league. The warriors kinda pissed on their parade. You could look at is as a "ghost" as something from the past. Even though as you say they aren't real. BTW Nick wright recently said "michael jordan was under rated he averaged 37 one season" not sure if he has a new angle? his character is completely fake, but maybe he finally coming off the lebron thing

This is a metaphor for how it is impossible to beat a ghost anymore than you can touch one. A ghost does not exist within the boundaries set by a human being. The level of fame and influence that Michael Jordan had on the sport of basketball may never be surpassed. His story is legend. His path to the hall of fame is one thing, but the way Jordan did what he did made you believe without a doubt that he was the baddest man on the planet. Nobody could impose themselves on an opponent like Jordan did. He checked all the boxes. He knew, and you knew who was better. Some feared him, some hated him, but everyone respected him because he put in the work and he mastered the game.

35 year old from Liverpool from England here. Jordan was sooo good that basketball was huge when he was here . It’s big now but I’d see 23 kits with his name on it everywhere. He transcended sports with his nike and space jam deals too. No wonder Lebron Signed on for space jam 2 .. he’s craving to be on that Jordan level. But Jordan is a deity. A living legend and a morphological being. There will never be another like him who transcends basketball that way.

I don't think the media even mythologises Jordan all that much. His feats speak for themselves. LeBron is not chasing a ghost so much as he is chasing a standard of excellence which he has fallen short of, and because ones career is limited, it's a standard which LeBron and his fans can see that is very unlikely to be reached. LeBron tried to take shortcuts by making superteams. He was so sure that once he was on a great team that he would win "..Not 6, Not 7..." championships. But 9 Finals later and he has lost twice as many Finals as he has won. When it's all said and done, LeBron will be a 1st ballot hall of famer, he's an icon for this era, and a top 10 player of all time. His work off the court may eventually sing louder than those on the court. But like Wilt Chamberlain, he'll have fallen short of what many thought he should have achieved.

Puck Put Jordan in Lebrons shoes throughout his entire career, they would end up the same way. You cant compare a player who had the pieces to win a championship assembled around him in his first 5 years, to someone who spent the first 7 years of his career with little to no supporting cast. Furthermore, Jordan was not in an era of high player mobility and players mostly stayed loyal to the team that drafted them. Lebron was forced out of Cleveland, was forced to assemble a “superteam” to compete with other super teams to win rings. Fallen short is inaccurate, he’s overacheived given his circumstances.

Great video BE! What we have to remember is MJ put into motion everything Lebron benefits from...max contracts, shoe deals (Nike shoe deals to be exact), global exposure, etc. Jordan started ALL of that based on his career alone. Lebron can NEVER eclipse that because before Jordan, it was never done that way before. Jordan started an entire paradigm shift that can't be shifted again. Even Jordan's numbers are better than Lebron's if you look at the fact Jordan got his numbers playing in a system. Lebron dominates the ball to get his. Jordan was truly one of a kind. Sorry Lebron. MJ is GOAT period.

+Kenneth Donnelly - Tell me ONE NBA player before Michael Jordan who was able to solidify a contract over $33mil a year. ONE!! You won't find it. The max deals Jordan was able to work out busted through a barrier that once existed in the NBA for superstars in the league. If what you said was true, why isn't Magic Johnson, an avid business man, not worth what Mike is? THAT'S my point in saying Mike started this whole max contract stuff...and he did! Everyone knows it...except you. Later bruh...

  • @1vaultdweller

C B Huh? Broadcasting rights and things like collective bargaining and endorsements existed before MJ. Salaries evolve over time and the NBA/players union react to regulate them. Sure MJ was the first NBA player to earn 30mil a year, but the things that allow players to earn that much money already existed, so your case doesnt make much sense And Curry signed a 34mil per year contract. By your logic, Curry must have put into motion of something never seen before.... just because there were no one who signed a 34mil contract before. So what do you think genius? Is Curry the goat cus he started an entire paradigm shift that allows players to earn more then MJ did?

+Kenneth Donnelly - The hell? What are you talking about? Steph? GOAT? Stephen Curry shouldn't even come out of your mouth when I'm talking PRE-Curry era. Michael Jordan paved the way for max deals the way we know players to have them today. Because of Mike, the MEGA deal evolved to today's standard. And it's only gone up since. You're tryna sound so smart when you're just making my point and showing your bias by even bringing up Curry when that dude was running around in diapers when Jordan was playing. Give it a rest bro.

You are probably right as when you look at the moves he is trying to make on and off the court LeBron and Nike are trying to make his story as mythical as possible as when Nike built the legend of Michael Jordan they made the story too perfect to be overcomed as I think the legacy and story of Michael Jordan is one that is impossible to overcome as he is the most influential athlete alongside Muhammad Ali.

Love how you put this together, in less than 3mins! Firstly, I want to say I am not saying and don’t know who is better than who. To me better is too broad of a word to use when discussing comparisons. And there are too many variables to consider in order to have a factual and undeniable comparison. In my opinion, the narrator of video is encouraging the viewer to think more critically about the MJ’s greatness. Most would say he’s untouchable not even LBJ could be on his level. BUT why? How? MJ isn’t #1 of all time stats cat. Is it just about the rings? Yes his impact off court and popularising the sport worldwide is undeniable. Yes he’s probably the richest sportsperson thus far, but I’m sure LBJ would surpass him if he hasn’t already. Even with the advancement of science technology medicine knowledge in general, were saying that no one has come close? Lebron and most players now have an intensive regimented diet and training, best of the best. What exactly is it and why are we are unable to consider that someone could be possibly “better”.... and more importantly, Where the hell is Michael? that’s why he’s a “ghost” coz we literally don’t see him.. ever! Heck I saw Kobe last month and I live allllllll the way in Melbourne, Australia. LOL Something to think about with this “think piece”. Otherwise this video could’ve easily been added to the MJ playlist hehe

No one who ever saw MJ at the height of his game would be saying that his achievements were myths. Look at the list of what he did in and for the game globally. If you know who he is, no matter how old you are, then it's because he created his legacy, not everyone else. LeBron called MJ a ghost. MJ only ever left a legacy that very few today may reach. More excuses from leBron though. That's all he knows.

Agreed. LeBron James wants to create his own hype machine that surpasses Jordan's. He's trying to cast shadow over the larger than life figure that was Michael Jordan. However, he's trying to do it off the court and it seems needy, desperate and a real high quality knockoff.

In other words, Jordan and Lebron are like runners competing in a race. In this kind of race, no matter when a runner begins, each runner has the opportunity to win the race. When Jordan started, some had already been running for some time, but he caught up, ran past them, and has kept the lead. Lebron started running some time after Jordan and had been trying to catch up to Jordan in order to pass him. With every season hes played he tries but seems to keep tripping up and losing ground. Lebron has now realized that he wont ever pass Jordan. *Hopefully his fans can realize it too* *Hopefully they can also see that their are other runners he has to pass in order to get to Jordan who is ahead of the pack*
