One of the most beautiful endings ever put on film. Helped in many ways by Bernard Herrmann's beautiful, soulful and melancholic score. His daughter has said that it was his favorite of all his soundtracks. I can see why. Now Lucy and Daniel are finally allowed to have the happiness they were so long denied.

Your sniffling just added to an already touching moment. I love how he was finally able to touch her. Thanks for posting!

One of the all-time great film endings. It absolutely makes the movie. If it ended in any other way, it would not be as fantastic as it is.

I watched this with my mother when I was in my 20's and her 40's. She cried at the ending as well. You bought back that memory. Wonderful, thank you

In my 20s, this scence where she passes on always bought tear to me. Now, in my 60s, I watched my Ma pass on at 94yr ,and like to think she will never be tired again too...and now,,time to cut the grass

Wonder what happened to Martha after Mrs Muir passed away?

She probably went to live with Anna, Mrs. Muir’s daughter, and her family.

@@12classics39 I didn’t think of that but good call. I was just thinking she stayed on as cook and housekeeper for the retired seaman’s home but she’s getting up in years for that

The scene with Martha was the one thing they could have done better. It's often close to home, though, when things end that way.
