i got bought a chrome one for xmas in 1972 ,i was well happy with it being 12, i even took it to school to show my teacher , he had a go with a cork in it. the pistol then was £2.11.

This was a UK made pistol.. Had one as a present in 1960....and found one at a boot fair! Early models had no safety catch, were smooth bore, and only for " plinkimg" at tin cans, etc. Also found some old 1960s Beatall brand pellets! . 177 cal. Thanks for posting. 😊.

I have just bought one at an Engine show for £2,, and yes they are and were "crap" but it is true to say they did start most of us on the road to air rifles, now 63 and still shooting Air Rifles, good review thanks

My Dad bought a similar pistol made by Diana with a wooden pistol grip. Hugely inaccurate but great fun, Dad bought it in the ‘60’s and I still have it 😁

You should use that enormous barrel as a target at 5 yards, you may get a 50% hit rate. I remember putting a target up on my dads shed for darts, half the darts missed the shed even. The extending barrel is for leverage for when you get so frustrated with missing you can throw the pistol at the intended target and discover it's hidden accuracy.

The only weapon i ever owned that when you pulled the trigger you can watch the slug come out of the barrel and watch it go anywhere but nowhere near the target. 🤣

From posts I've read gats seem ubiquitous and cheap in England. They are not all that common in the U.S and the ones I saw on Ebay went for around $60-$100 which is too much for what it is. The bottom of the barrel cheap air pistol in the U.S. was the Marksman, which resembled a colt 1911. As with the gat that also had a reputation for inaccuracy. It would be interesting to compare the two to see which was the least accurate and had the least power. I have a couple of cheap springers, a Daisy Powerline 201, which is an uglified clone of the Marksman, and a Big Country 1911, which I just bought new. I guess reintroducing the gat must have fell through or been pushed back. If they ever do reintroduce the gat I'll probably buy one.

Im pretty sure at least 50% of boys growing up in England had one of these(it seemed like that anyway) There must be tens of thousands of them forgotten in attics and sheds.

I had both the marksman and the gat and can confirm that the gat was the less powerful and the less accurate.

In the fifties we would have gunfights with these guns...you couldn't hit much of anything past six feet. we would stand ready to draw from our short trouser pockets. Sometimes we would discharge the Gat as we pulled it out of our pockets, shooting ourselves in fact..It was stupid of course! but nobody got injured, it was just part of being a naive kid in post war Britain...We all carried sheath knives as well but nobody used them to stab one another. When we graduated to a Webley Mk 3 or a BSA Airsporter we forgot about the Gat......and the gunfights..

Interesting you mention carrying a knife when you were young, something that has been on my mind with all the reports of knife crime nowadays. I may address it in a future video. Exactly, it did start me on the way to airguns, section one and eventually shotguns. But I have to say, they were useless, couldn’t hit a thing with it.

Iv just picked up a diana sp50 in box with original shop receipt it cost 7 pounds with the pellets in 1975. Its just cost me a lot more.

Bloody pellets are dear enough these days.

I was given one for raking leaves off someone's campsite. Thought I was getting a deal of a life time. I what 10 year old boy in 1972 wouldn't think getting a BB pistol for a little work isn't a great deal? WTF!! One the BBs just fell out unless you pointed it up. Already I was like BBs are all I have. I need pellets? I need a lawyer to sue for misrepresentation. So tried a bit of tissue to hold them in barrel. You know, like the muskets we used to kick England's ass. That sort of worked. OMG, if you could hit a beer bottle, it just bounced off. Now pushing 60, I still have every BB gun I had as a kid. Every one but that one. I can't even remember what I did with it. As the man said, it was rubbish!!

Don't expect too much from these little pistols! Yes there was a chrome plated model.. think it cost about £2 10 / -? We used to shoot at Fireworks... 1d bangers, bought from local newsagents. Don't remember hitting any!

My older brother had one when I was about nine so he would have been fifteen. I Can remember somebody nicking his bike and laughing as he did it and he shot him in the back with one of these.

Lol, not recommended. I doubt if the kid nicking the bike even felt it but your brother could have been in trouble even then. Different times. Today it would be a firearms offence and he could be facing 7 years in jail! People don't realise how much freedom they have lost over the last 50 years.

He did feel it because he was screaming and fell off the bike backwards. I don't know what make it was but it was a gat gun and silver coloured I think. I don't think he got into trouble for it but I might be wrong on that ?

I got shot with one of those close range in my bottom spine .it left a mark,.,.

Do you still need a licence for this or any spring type pistol

Had one of these in the early 1960s. They were only dangerous if the extending barrel hit you. Couldn't hit the proverbial barn door, but great fun. I usually used the darts with a fluffy tail, principally because you could reuse them and they ended up being cheaper than pellets. I also had some lead "cat pellets", which were dome headed but with no skirt. I suspect they were as aerodynamic as a very small house brick. And before anyone asks, no I never fired at a cat!

But try different guns there’s websites that sell good guns for cheap like academy website

Timothy Edwards I noticed yours ain’t got a leather seal on the breach plug the power will be worse with out it I brought all mine second hand 3 of the seals was missing I just hole punch them out of a old belts and took the guns a part to fit a leather seal behind the spring as well to Keep all the air in the air chamber and to go down the barrel and lock tight on the barrel part where the piston cup is you want all of it tight they come loose after all them years doing this mod will give you 290 FPS all the time

lol what on earth is "half a crown" two n six pence! (which is 12 n half pee in todays money)- got GCSE Maths & HND Computing Science - but never fathomed old money! my old man tried explaining to me old money when I was a kid but I think he confused me as much as he did himself when talking about it!

Two shillings and six pence. A Crown was worth 5 shillings, so half a crown, two shillings and six pence.

​@@johnfrancis5673a shilling was 12 old pennies, 20shillings in a pound, there was a sixpenny piece called a tanner, a shilling was also known as a bob, so two n six was two bob n a kick ( another name for a tanner or sixpenny piece, ( your head aching yet. Ill go from top to bottom in a list with the moneys rral name and its slang names. £1 =1 pound note, slang a quid... Or a sheet, or a bar. 10, shilling note ( yes rrally, thats when ten shillings or half a bar was worth something, you always felt you had money when you had 10 shilling note in your wallet. Half a crown = 2shillings and 6 pence ( pence were marked down as d say 6d, the half crown was a silver coloured coin that was worth 2s6d, I've never seen a crown it was before my time l was born in 1957,. 2shilling piece, another silver coin, also to confuse you there was a Florin that was also a silver coin and also worth 2 shillings ( older coins l think they were reluctant to waste them so kept em on until decimalisation. Then the shilling coin a silver coin worth 12 old pennies. The sixpence piece or tanner or kick, was a small silver coin worth half a shilling. Then ( now get ready for a brain hemorrhage lol ) the threepenny piece or threpenny bit as it was known it was a thick brass coloured coin, worth half of a sixpence or 3 old pennies. 1 penny usually very dark browny black from much handling and very old going back to victorias reign, we were holding pennies that Dickens or Dr Livingstone may have held, there were moderner ones for queen elizabeth 11 and going back to george and edward. Halfpenny or hapenny as it was called, obviously it was worth half a penny. Then ( just discontinued on my 1st birthday the Farthing a small dark coin with a picture of a wren l believe on it. There had been a guinea coin at one time but they vanished, and there was also an amount called a guinea ( still used l believe in buying racehorses and there prizes at race meetings, l ike the Ten Thousand Guineas, a guinea is worth one pound and one shilling, or a pound and 5p now. When decimalisation took place a lot of confusion occured, along with a lot of ripping off, items that had had been two old pennies and should have been valued as one new penny or pence, quite often got changed to 2 new pence which was worth nearly 6 old pennies so you were paying over twice as much as before to some unscrupulous traders. Shops and any sales outlet actually were required by law to show the prices in two formats the new money and the old price,, same with the weights, in fact you will still hear people now still saying a pound of tomatoes and a pint of milk, and theyre still by law meant to display the old weights and measures tho not many bother. 1 stone = 14 pounds or 14 lbs as it got wrote 1 pound contained 16 ounce 1 gallon of liquid contained 8 pints of milk. 2 pints were called a quart. You might still hear the term a pint of beer please

The F in the pentagon means it is ready for the German market, power below a certain ft/lbs around 5.5. joule
