The Game the NCAA WANTS YOU TO FORGET

Спорт

The incident that happened between Miami and FIU in 2006, is one of the most infamous moments in college football history. It was total chaos... and it would end in 31 suspensions, a broadcaster being fired, and a moment of pure chaos that no one will forget.

that 2006 Miami team (and just Miami football from that era in general) was freakin' crazy, and not in a good way. In addition to everything he talks about in this video, Miami also saw one of their own players (Bryan Pata) get murdered during the season. The case was long unsolved but, 15 yrs later, they figured out that it was ONE OF HIS OWN MIAMI TEAMMATES who'd murdered him. Just absolute insanity.

This was the year that Miami's status as one of college football's blue-bloods died. Their slide actually began a couple years earlier, but it was by 2006 that it became clear that it wasn't merely a brief rough patch between national championships. The dynasty was over.

Funny thing: I have 3 pals who attended Miami and 2 who attended FIU. They said there were small tussles, insults, and teasing, but the guys would hug, playfully shove, or throw out a final word before the fights ended with hardly any punches thrown. They would usually laugh the next day and say "Next time throw a punch, I dare ya!" THIS wasn't the least bit playful. A guy struck someone with his DAMN HELMET! THOSE AREN'T SOFT!

My two favorite Miami games are the 1993 Sugar Bowl against Alabama, and the 1995 Orange bowl vs. Nebraska. Two games the Canes fully expected to win but instead were turned away by programs of superior discipline and class.

1987 Fiesta Bowl. That would be their most notorious of them all. Going to a team function in fatigues and comparing themselves to the Japanese Empire during WWII.

I was there that night. A short time later the cops had to go into the student section to break up a pretty good sized fight also.

For some weird reason I was thinking about this today, because of the announcer saying, "We should settle this in the tunnel" Too funny. But, being a Notre Dame fan, I wasn't surprised at the reaction. The "Catholics vs Convicts" is shown to be accurate, once again. And this was 18 years later.

I remember that game. The announcer was an idiot. The game should've been canceled from that point..

Miami is a beautiful yet troubled place. The Hurricanes have been an accurate reflection of the area. They have had glorious moments and shameful ones. The problem with sinful pride is that it always comes crashing back down to earth, no matter how high it might have sent you for a brief moment. Miami, which just lost to FIU at the site of the Orange Bowl, is learning this lesson the hard way.
