Keep in mind, if Miss State wins this game they are 11-1 with their only loss being by 5 @ Alabama. Obviously, there’s still a chance Ohio State would jump them since they still wouldn’t have won a conference championship, but I think since they were already at 4 and Ohio State was at 5 they’d probably end up making it if they beat Ole Miss. What do you guys think?

I’m actually not too certain about that. At that point at the end of the season Miss St’s best win would be...Ole Miss, whereas Ohio State would have a win over 10-2 Michigan State and a 59-0 blowout over 10-3 Wisconsin. It would really come down to if the Virginia Tech loss is bad enough and the Alabama loss is good enough for Miss St to stay ahead of the Buckeyes. I feel like the debate would be very similar to what we experienced last year between OSU and Bama.

Dude I remember this game but I COMPLETELY forgot about Msu being #4 at the time

I think Ole Miss could've gotten into the playoffs if the had beaten Auburn earlier in the season. That brutal loss with Treadwell breaking his leg at the goal line broke this team when they lost at Arkansas. That Ole Miss team was just better than Mississippi State in 2014 and they had beaten Alabama already

TheStickpig Well idk if they were better then MSU just because they beat Alabama. Remember, Ole Miss had Bama at home while State had to travel to Alabama. It's one thing to beat Bama when you're hosting them, it's an entirely different battle to go to Tuscaloosa and try to beat Alabama, and they came close to pulling it off had Dak had not thrown so many interceptions, the last one ended their second half comeback. Now they were better than MSU Egg Bowl week, which is why they won but if you look at the season as a whole, Mississippi State was a better team.

Ne Oublie Bama is the only team that was ranked ahead of them in the SEC west. If they beat Bama, then Bama would have 2 losses and MSU would go to the SEC Championship game because they would only have 1 loss. If they won the SEC Championship game, then they would likely go to the playoffs. If MSU beats Ole Miss but loses to Bama then Bama will make the SEC Championship game instead and will go to the playoffs. No SEC Championship=No playoffs (Except for Bama in 2017)

Not sure what Bo is doing now, but he was coaching. In fact, I talked to him a few years back when he was QB coach for Buddy Stephens at EMCC, which is where he won a JUCO national championship before going to Ole Miss.

Mississippi State that year got all the help they can get. I will never forget the Auburn game that year, the refs would not even allow Auburn to have a chance in this game and also the Kentucky game to mention another but Mississippi State blew the game against Alabama etc

I’m not trolling, this is a legitimate question: Is 2014 a year that that scandal in Ole Miss was occurring? I remember when randomly Ole Miss had a crazy recruiting class, flipping some Bama commits and brothers of Bama players (been an Alabama fan my whole life). I remember wondering what was going on that randomly they’d have that great a class, they hadn’t had a particularly great year before that since Eli Manning was there. When I was a kid and first was able to comprehend what was happening in the game, Alabama was in probation and scholarship trouble, so they sucked for years until Coach Saban came. My first Alabama game was one of the 4 games they won that particular season. It was rough. So Ole Miss fans, hang on, give it some time. I always have and always will hate having to play y’all.

The game that made Auburn not make the playoffs was the SEC Championship against Georgia. They came in ranked #2 and had they won, it would've been #1 Clemson #2 Auburn #3 Oklahoma #4 Alabama.

The LSU game didn’t matter. Auburn had two losses when they faced Bama. (LSU 23-27 and Clemson 13-14). Both of those losses weren’t bad. Clemson was a playoff team and LSU was a ranked team. Both those losses were 4 points or less. Then Auburn beat #1 Georgia and won the rest of their games before they played Bama. This put them at #6. Then when they beat #1 Alabama this out them in the Top 4 and all Auburn had to do was beat Georgia and they would stay in the playoffs. If they didn’t they would be out. Unfortunately Auburn got blown out 28-7 and their playoffs hopes were destroyed. Then lost to UCF in the Peach Bowl and finished with a season record of 10-4 lol.

I’m so late but Ohio State had wins over the #24 (62-3) #8 (road win), #7 (blowout on the road), #6 ranked teams, these all being their rankings during selection time, they weren’t getting left out for Louisville and I doubt Washington would’ve been left out with that conference Championship.

Unfortunately both teams flopped in New Years Six bowl games.
