Thank you professor Wolff. Best talk ever, on this subject. An incredible eye opener. Our system isn't just corrupt, it is evil. No other word for it. The wealthy 10% don't care about us and the government, they bought, doesn't give a damn about the American people, either. What Wolff says about FDR and the great depression is GOLD. We the people, are not powerless. Nice to feel a little hope, for a change. So much has become clear to me now. It is unreal. Just finished reading 1984. Carlin was a genius in my opinion. He made the comfortable uncomfortable without mincing words. Richard Wolfe and Chris Hedges are two of my go too guys.

In the United States we have government employees acting as if they are in charge of the people, rather than there to serve the people. They receive payment via the people's taxes. They act hostile and try to lord it over the people. It's a psychological trick, but the people in the United States are catching on. How could we miss it? That's all we're seeing from every government agency under the Biden / Democrat administration.

This class needs to be taught to every child ages five through age 20 every week of their life. They need to listen to this gentleman and learn maybe this country could be turned around somebody figure that out and let’s get it done.

He puts things in perspective. So very intelligent and no wonder he was/is a professor. I wish I had him in college. I was an economics major at first but changed after 2 semesters of a very dry and difficult professor.

He did not recommend socialism or communisim or the organization of countries like China or Russia - bur rather points to MONDRAGON, in the Basque part of Spain. One question I have is how about the profit motive? If I have enough money to start a business and hire workers, what’s wrong with me earning a profit off of their work? If it weren’t for me, they would not be able to have a job. Plus, the profit I take in that scenario reflects the risk. I wonder what Dr. Wolff would say to that. At any rate, Dr. Wolff as always is very capable and makes you think.

He'd say you are a capitalist fascist imperialist pig of a dictator and you must be shot and your business handed to your employees. You getting the idea, renting or building the workplace, buying materials, equipment and maybe advertising pales in comparison to the monumental work your employees put it and the miserable wages you offer them, you swine. If you operate at a loss, putting in your own money or borrowing from investors, it's your fault, you're doing a bad job, but you manage to become profitable then all credit is due to the poor workers you're exploiting and underpaying and they should make more decisions on how your company is run.

Excellent chronological presentation, one of the best I've seen.

This is perhaps the finest, most comprehensive speech Richard Wolff has ever given. I'm sending this to all my friends... it's important.

Understand business (business = trade). If your industry is unionized or one in which you are paying "dues"(a subscription) or a "fee"(extortion). Understand value (try to quantify the components that comprise your trade) - understand why your skill matters or doesn't. If you are in a unionized industry, read ALL fine print. Understand which role your union leader is playing...Broker? Salesman? Pushover? Conspirator with management? Never let anyone negotiate your life - except in the justice system.

Today bankers, governments, and corporations are one and the same. It’s us vs them but the masses have been brainwashed, here in Canada we had the best system for the people until 1974 when it all changed. The people’s bank of Canada was created in 1933 and belonged to the people, it printed Canada’s money at zero interest we created schools, hospitals, Highways, we started Medicare, social security and are debt was stagnant,because the people got taxed to destroy the money that was created and spent into existence for the people. In 1974 our corrupt government gave the right to create our money to the bank of international settlements and these bankers charge Canada interest and since our economy is falling apart and our national debt has skyrocketed because our tax money goes into the pockets of bankers instead of destroying the currency we get inflation. Key dates are 1913 the creation of the fed, 1974 Pierre Eliot Trudeau back stabs Canada, 2001 The Europe union and if you ask me this is unconditional but then again we don’t have a real democracy just like we don’t have real capitalism, we have cronyism with a quiet dictator. End the bankers end all wars and poverty.

And that today, when you listen to him today.. you can almost see the fear & disgust in his eyes … as if he can actually SEE the horror we’re about to step into if we don’t..do something drastic? A resource-based economy, localized production, alternate energy technologies, interest-free money based on gold and silver are all required to save the economy. The trouble is the upper class will not permit the middle and lower classes to acquire these changes. Not at all.

I enjoy listening to Richard Wolff's talks. A lot of what he talks about I was able to come to realize (before I learned of him) through observing politics, reading history and reading about socialism and communism. I also read the constitution of My country (Australia) and I read China's constitution. The rise of the central banks and their eventual deregulation. All this is self taught. I saw the system is flawed, but continuously praised. And no one talks about the other side. Unfortunately I also learned I am one of few people I know who understands it on this level. About 50+ are interested in hearing/reading and sharing what I have to say. Others although they don't respond via online platforms. In person they tell me that they read my stuff and find it very interesting. I also provide credible sources that back up my what I am saying. I'm no academically recognized scholar but that doesn't mean I can't share what I have learned. And when I am voicing an opinion or engaging in speculation. I will point it out.

I am not suffering but do think of others. I got some grandchildren growing up. Only uneducated people with no social skills, resolve conflict by calling people names. Obviously you are not well read or would know we already have many social programs in America including schools, libraries, VA hospitals, EPA, FDA, medicare, etc. Its pretty easy to know the middle class is shrinking, that called statistics, and that corporations have been paying less than their fair share since the 80's increasing yearly, and that Wall Street is holding everyone hostage because our money is mixed with their speculations. Bernie has been consistent in his voting for all Americans for decades, is not the typical corporate politician backed by corporations, and is not an entitled billionaire who gets support by promoting bigotry, racism, and said if he ever ran he would run on a republican ticket because they were the most uneducated, FOX TV new watching bunch. Of course the poorest states in the nation are in the south and those happen to be where the higher percentage of uneducated outwardly racist people live. He also buys into fear and you know ya'll are all such good Christians. NOT!!!

I Couldn’t have said it better! Thank you! I have watched a number of his lectures/interviews. Learned a lot even as a mature adult. As he says, important to know history. So important! He puts things in perspective. So very intelligent and no wonder he was/is a professor. I wish I had him in college. I was an economics major at first but changed after 2 semesters of a very dry and difficult professor.

Professor Wolff: After receiving my college transcripts, I was shocked to see I was given 4.0 GPA for Philosophy. I remember barely hanging on! Interestingly, I remember one important comment from a professor: "German Philosophers are much better read in the German language as they were written, as the translation into English becomes less poetic and fluid. If u are asking why don't i think that it's okay to intervene that economic phenomena: Well, shouldn't we make cristiano ronaldo to earn just 50.000$ a year? I don't think it's good or bad to earn that much. If a high income is simply the result of a voluntary exchange between people the outcome doesn't bother me the same way it wouldn't bother me if some people willingly decide to make out. There's also the consequences on productivity (thus on wages and prices for the people) that would arise when the price or wage system is distorted by any non-economical motivation.

Never forget Greece got there after Goldman Sachs offered to cook the books to get into the EU but demanded that all convertable public funds be converted into the CDO's that GS shorted immediately after the deal in the mid 2000's. This is a key fact when talking about Greece's financial issues.

What is more, half of the civil servants do not even work because they do not live in fear of losing their jobs. The lazy get well paid. The worst thing is that the government accepts this because those in power depend on these servants to get elected. This includes Syriza.There is the client state...Nikos Poulantzis said the government does not serve the interests of the rich only because it is an entity of its own. I am not so sure this applies to Greece.

Worker-owned, worker-controlled workplaces---it's the only way to go forward. In the "managers'" minds, you who do the work are the very last thing to consider if at all. Our daily work condemns us to feeding the Profit Machine that's killing us. We have to stand by the value of our daily work, and if we do so, we WILL win. Hope many, many people hear this!

Who ever owns the business is taking on the liability, opportunity cost, and general risk.... The owner therefore suffers all losses, and reaps any profit. If workers wish to Unite and Buy Out the Company, good for them. But, most workers would rather take their wages, and leave the complications of running a business to others with the appropriate expertise.

WE DON'T need ANY Political party. ALL political parties/classes are always corrupted. Switzerland, a 700 yr old, STABLE Direct Democracy. No need for political classes to be and WILL ALWAYS BE corrupted in what ever form they exist, Central Committees, Congresses, Parliaments. D.Democracy WORKS.

No, the exploit the fact that people need to live to pay their workers well below their worth, while paying execs well above their worth. Also, the whole point of LLCs and the like is to mitigate the risk, abd the biggest monopolistic companies make the losses public with bail outs. I really think you are looking at this with rose colored glasses, and ignored the ever growing inequality and the way that the top billionaires and corporations use their wealth and power to influence legislation that favors them and makes sure that the working masses are in no position to compete with them. We have oligarchic crony capitalism, I don't see how anyone can deny this. The history is plain.

The means of production has a huge effect on the society as a whole. A more democratic system would benefit society more than an oligarchical one. Please address my point on your false dichotomy or just move on. I don't deal with red herrings.

Yes See you the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. Billions of human beings want to move to the USA as soon as possible. Like right now.

As alway, professor Wolff delivers another great lectures, however this one important topic left out that must be addressed, is the real estate Industry, currently it where the wealthy elites are investing all their assets, to own the natural resources and make most American either homeless or renters, raining their rents exorbitantly, currently local government depend on property taxes to fund schools, libraries and roads etc etc, so my question foe Richard, is under a system proposed in his lectures as like this one, how should this industry change or be affected by his proposed changes to end capitalism etc etc…?

Described well here but when has it been any different? The powerful control the government on more levels than rigging voting systems.

@Lucas Allison Marxism is NOTHING NEW to me since I did live in socialist country and was FORCED to know Marxism in details . Reality is there are many things WRONG about this theory which constantly criticize and blame rich , for shortcomings of poor . Capitalism do NOT exploit workers , but socialism does !! Socialist CUBA pays worker $25 / a MONTH !!! So if you complain about your "minimum wage " in the USA , please MOVE to CUBA , your Socialist PARADISE .

@@martinko4086 I live in a Nordic country, a social democratic state with a nice mix of free markets and socialists programs. Socialism wasn't the problem in the country you lived in, it was the corruption and concentration of power.

"raise the wage" becomes a moot point in the better model of cooperatives which state "divvy the profits"---no more begging and bargaining, just earning and divvying. plus, cooperatives can determine their product, hopefully sustainable and necessary. unions gotta sell whatever the corporation markets. so the co-op is indeed optimal. stuffy old union halls or gorgeous independent shops carrying the beautiful artisanal necessities and holistic produce of local farmers. you choose.

I got goose bumps at the end... all the way thru I'm thinking what a great source of Carlin fodder And he says he's a big fan towards the end! Woo wool I like his style and passion.

Capitalism is the system that favors certain skills more than others. Some of those skills are: - Efficiency in killing, fooling, manipulating or destroying (whatever it takes) the competition. - Efficiency in exploiting others for personal profit. If you have those skills - you will be just fine here...Maybe not if some psychosis makes you miserable.

@HMSBlackPrince Once Basic food, fuel, shelter, clothing are widely and cheaply available, the Capitalist will naturally begin to produce upgrades... Eventually there are superfluous , more expensive, versions of necessities... When every house has a stove, next people will want Central heat, then they want A/C... Pure running water to every house is an historically astonishing achievement, but people will next want hot and cold running water,,, some will want a whirlpool bath..... When beans and rice are abundant and cheap, people will want hamburgers, and then Steak... and so it goes. Should the Gov. make it illegal for people with No resources to spend foolishly on unnecessary amusement? Should the grocer not sell a bag of Chips to the low IQ Adult, who can't feed their kids? Should Gov. mandate that salty Snacks be unavailable to anyone, so as to guarantee stupid people don't waste their limited resources? Who decides if I'm permitted to buy a house with an unnecessarily large lawn? Should Realtors be banned from "staging" houses to entice buyers? Should the potato Chip company be banned from glossy packaging, and celebrity advertising? The Dear Leader WILL tell us what we like or do not like, and what we will or will Not think.... so, be careful what you ask for you may get it

Why not get organized and start boycotting products and services produced by major corporations, collectively refuse to pay back the student loans, start using alternative currency like bitcoin as much as possible. Basically, form a virtual society, which small at the beginning eventually might expand into a larger and larger group and affect more and more aspects of daily life.

But that takes organisation and the organisations that once worked have been whittled to negligible by McCarthy and every administration beginning with & then following Kennedy. But maybe Dylan’s ‘Times', are coming about. 😮 • Actually, what you suggest is what I do. I can afford to live far more extravagantly than I choose. I follow a healthy diet that avoids all processed foods. I watch no media but rely upon the internet for my world information. I take pleasure in keeping my needs as simple as possible. Such bring me joy, and a little touch of nasty satisfaction. I am but one. "A Few Rules Prior to Purchase" •Do I really need that? Do I have a worthy substitute at home, or something I can put together to do the job, fill the need, find second hand. •How little can I spend today (as apposed to how much can I save). My approach comes from discussion with a very smart Chinese lady. It works far better than our Western Cliché. •Food is not my entertainment! It is but nourishment to a healthier body. •Advertising is blatant, legally protected, asserted lying. •They want to squeeze as much out of me as possible. •I want to give them less than possible.
