I remember a day in the mid 80's , not sure if it was 85 or 86 . Catching bombs from Snapper Rocks to past Kirra Point . I was only 15 or 16 . Still the best day of surfing I've ever had . Now I'm a GOAT . Got old and tired . I don't think Kelly will ever get old and tired . FN freak of nature. Great footage fella , and great to see those awesome lines at Coolangatta again. Brought back one of my best ever memories . Thanks M8

The Law was there also,and getting some insane barrels,ask the goat,they talked for ages about the waves they had,so awesome,good to see the legends.

Nice video. Awesome waves + Kelly = EPIC. It did look weird though, having Kelly go out of frame in the middle of a ride several times.
I dropped in on Slater on my booger lid at Broadbeach in 1999, when the pros were there practising for the Quicky Pro 😅 Ah good times the 90's 😊

A few days it'll be lovely. Had my best ride at kirra when it was only a metre but a 150m face. Crystal clear and only 5 of us out.

I remember going in to a surf movie in 1978 at the Balboa Theatre in NB, the opening scene shows perfect Kirra Point, the crowd erupted, I was in awe because I had never seen a wave like that.

I'd love to hear about Kelly's first time at Kirra! I think I might have a long time ago.

Were you droning yesterday around 930-1130? The hovering drone at the end looks familiar.
Serious question about kirra, when I moved to oz all I heard was that Kirra was recked, the dredging had ruined the wave etc etc. now it seems to be back?? Is it what it was? If so, Was this an ecological cycle or did they change the sand moving policy to help? Love to know. Stunning wave

It was high tide , most of the crew were waiting for the tide to drop a bit after already surfing an early half tide session . The average joes were more cautious because of bigger sets rolling through . And no one knew slater was going to be there .

Yes, Slater may seem to be the G.O.A.T. of all time in the category of all around players. Surfers of recent years don’t know about other G.O.A.T.s. If Robert Nat Young or Tom Curren had been in their prime during the Slater years, the story would be very different.

He was only on the tour last year to try and snag a spot in the Olympics to go out in style at Teahupo’o. Now that dream is gone he’ll only surf the good breaks this season.
Good thing Kelly got off the tour..is was beginning to be weird hem hanging out with all the kids on tour....he's a old man now..

The surfers in Australia are predominately of European descent. Even the same in Africa. Why? Who knows? One of my favourite surfers is Mike February who is a black South African. There is no racism in the water.
