Those new landing ships are awesome! Something to counter those hide in plain sight "fishing boats". The C130/HiMARS ... great experiences! Thank you for such a memorable conversation with The LTGEN

The new landing ships are stupid and a waste of resources with 75 Marines aboard. The 20 strong Newport Class Tank Landing Ships carried 400+ Marines, upto 20 tanks and 200+ sailors and could deploy these units feet dry on the beach. Build 10 of a modernized version not 35 stupid LSM's that aren't hiding from anyone, like an undercover police car.

Interesting about the anti-sub work. Ok, so SEALS have a sensor to help find them in choke points and SLOCs, what do the Marines attack them with?

Well the sensor they are talking about with the special warfare are those hand launched little plastic torpedo UUVs and im not sure its the seals who own them but rather EOD, though i think he is talking about doing frog man and light UUV mine war fare from the beach. He also talks about dropping buoys from Osprey and the venom/huey so they could probably do a mr46 or the like just like USN helos do. KC130s have already be modified to launch hellfire, ya could totally us them to drop sonar bouys and torps like a p-3. Part of his point about ditching tanks is that its not what they need but the HIMARS on top of their own private tactical air force means they can deliver ordinance all over, they could reinvent systems like the old cold war navy ASROC.

I served on one of the old LSTs back in the 80's. They are sitting duck targets with very limited capabilities. IMO like losing our tanks and making SSgt's Squad leaders, these new landing ships (actually an old outdated idea) are big steps backward.
