The Future of Quantum Computing with Michio Kaku, Neil deGrasse Tyson & More

Ғылым және технология

Could quantum computing solve the three-body problem? Neil deGrasse Tyson and comedians Jordan Klepper and Tiffany Haddish discuss how quantum computing will change the world with theoretical physicist Michio Kaku live at the Beacon Theater.
What is quantum physics? We learn how quantum computing differs from traditional transistor computing. What is a qubit? What does quantum computing have to do with the many worlds hypothesis? We talk about how Mother Nature is a quantum computer and how quantum computers compute in the multiverse.
What does a quantum computer look like? We break down Schrodinger’s Cat, the superposition of states, and how information travels faster than light between entangled particles. What sort of programming language would a quantum computer use? Find out what will go obsolete after quantum computers and what mysteries we could resolve.
Could quantum computing change experimental science as we know it? Explore how quantum computing will help us discover what happened before the Big Bang and how to achieve a wormhole using negative energy. How would quantum computing escalate AI? We discuss where humanity is on the Kardashev Scale and utilizing the power of atoms. All that, plus, what is beyond the quantum computing revolution?
Thanks to our Patrons PaceOfSpades, Dale Engele, Amr Badawi, Elizabeth Rosalen, Dennis Kutzen, Martin Kjær Jørgensen, Poop Poop, William Jefferson, John Bigelow, and Patrick Scheidegger for supporting us this week.

How Do You Think Quantum Computing Will Change the World?

  • @Kders

Oh, we’ll definitely use it to level the playing field. It’ll benefit both rich and poor, slowly blurring then eliminating social, economic and racial barriers, as we are unified by objective facts and common interests. We’ll lay out frameworks to soften the impacts of automation, protecting people from joblessness, poverty and destitution. As we globally drive toward becoming an ecologically conscious interplanetary species, Keanu Reeves will tell us “it’s about damn time”, and share his species’ secret blueprints for (almost) FTL travel. Scratch that - Kaku just said fighting robots. I’ll settle for those. Michio GUNDAMUUUU

Quantum computing will eventually change almost EVERY aspect of our lives. Perhaps an easier question to answer is what won’t it change! I think for example, it won’t generate the original thought I’m currently using my thumbs to communicate. But it will change how that thought is communicated…speed, breadth and perhaps accuracy. Another thing we will still have is…imperfection. Because humans!

Probably would've been better w/o the quantum woo-woo, instead. Just because the math can be played with to get a sensational conclusion, doesn't mean reality actually works that way. Math is used to describe reality, but it can also be misused to describe fantasies. Writing "1+1=3" doesn't make it reality. There are no "other universes" (at least from quantum mechanics), it's just that the wave function is about probabilities. Just because the probability function takes every probability into account, it doesn't mean they all happened. It just means they all could've happened. There is no "but I'm also on Mars". No, Michio maybe could've been on Mars, but he isn't. It's worse than numerology, yeesh.

I find that having people in the discussion from diverse educational backgrounds makes the discussion easier for everyone to understand. If the ones on stage know exactly what they’re talking about no one is going to ask any questions. I felt this discussion was more upbeat than a boring lecture, with some funny interjections. But hey, there are plenty of boring lectures out there if this one is too ‘fun’.
