Federation Force is a meme but it may be oddly important as its ending cutscene segways almost perfectly into what is shown in the Prime 4 trailer. Sylux steals a Metroid egg from the feds at the end of FF and shows up with metroids in the trailer for MP4

The Prime games are canon to the main timeline; they’re just a separate story arc that’s largely unrelated to that of the main games. The first game was at FIRST conceived as a soft reboot, but they ultimately decided to make it part of the main timeline.

@@ChemaDarks Not true: Among other references, Metroid Prime’s very first logbook entry explicitly states that the Pirates on the Orpheon are survivors of M1/Zero Mission, Federation Force uses the Federation logo we saw in Other M, and Ridley has his remaining Prime cybernetics in Samus Returns. Sakamoto himself has stated in interviews that the Prime games are part of the main timeline, and that decision was made early on in Prime 1’s development. The reason there aren’t a lot of references between the 2D and Prime games is because their respective story arcs just… aren’t that relevant to each other: The Prime saga explores different parts of the galaxy and shows Samus fighting new threats, and their storylines are resolved between the events of the 2D games. As Sakamoto put it, “they have nothing to do with each other”. This was a deliberate choice, to give both Sakamoto and Retro as much creative freedom as possible without conflicting in any meaningful way. So yeah, TL;DR, the Prime and 2D games tell two story arcs that aren’t relevant to each other, but both still happen in the same canon timeline.

@@fredjones2170 they only share the manga as an origin story for easier development, the federation logo doesn't mean anything, the extra fight in MSR just shows Ridley recovering from zero mission(manga), wich is the only thing similiar cuz of the manga origin they share, Sakamoto can say anything about the games but what he did in other m just shows that a proyect by himself is not that well thought-out, he only gaves the ip to other studios and says yes to everything the fans ask story wise because he can't handle a modern story for metroid

The odd thing about the Metroid timeline is that unlike most other video game timelines, it's not the order of games that is confusing, but rather... the amount of time that passes BETWEEN those games. Depending on who you ask, you might hear from one person that the series spans several decades, while another might say that every single game is crammed within the span of 2-3 years, depending on how much evidence they ignore. Here's my best shot at a rundown: Zero Mission: Set in 20X5. We don't know the exact decade but based on some details from Corruption, we can definitively rule out 2005, 2015, and 2095 as possibilities, and for other reasons (mainly involving Admiral Dane's backstory), I'm almost positive it's not 2025 either. For the purposes of demonstration, let's just assume that ZM takes place in the first possible year that it feasibly could, being 2035. Prime: According to an official book, it takes place 3 years after Zero Mission, so 2038. We also know from in-game info that the Pirates were on Tallon IV for quite a while before Samus arrived, further backing up that there was a bit of a time skip between the two game. Hunters: All we know is that it's somewhere between Prime and Echoes. No clue which it's closer to. *shrugs* Echoes: Takes place 6 months before Corruption, so after taking that game into account, I estimate that Echoes is likely set sometime around 2041. Corruption: As previously stated, this game begins 6 months after Echoes. Also, according to Federation Force's official website, "several years" pass between Corruption and FF. While "several" isn't exactly a rigid measurement, the consensus is that it generally means more than 3, but not by much, so 4 years makes the most sense, placing Corruption in 2042. Any more and there would be less time between Prime and Echoes for Hunters to squeeze in. Federation Force: Explicitly stated to take place in 20X6, but we know that all of those other Prime games can't fit within a year, meaning that FF takes place a whole 11 years after Zero Mission, from 2035 to 2046. Samus Returns: Takes place immediately before Super, which based on current knowledge would place it in 2047, or maybe at the very end of 2046. Super: Stated in an old commercial to be set in 20X7, which for our purposes would be 2047. That said, if any date might get retconned by the release of Beyond, it'd be this one. For now though, this is where we stand. Other M: They're deliberately vague about how much time passes between Super and Other M but it must have been a while for the Metroids and Space Pirates to "fade from memory", and for the Bottle Ship experiments to take place. I would guess it's probably been several months to a year, so maybe 2048? Beyond(?): Beyond is set in 20X9, which should be 2049, a mere 3 years after Federation Force. I can't imagine someone as spiteful as Sylux waiting an extra decade to enact whatever his plan is. While this does make sense, I have suspicions that they MIGHT decide to retcon the 20X7 date for Super so that Beyond ends up taking place before Samus Returns. If so, then Beyond will still be in 20X9, but SR, Super, and Other M would get pushed back by at least a few years. We'll have to wait and see. Fusion: Takes place "many years" after the Metroids on SR-388 were wiped out during Samus Returns. The minimum number that "many" could apply to is 5, so let's just go with that instead of adding on extra years without proof. That'd place Fusion in 2051-2052, unless they retcon Super's date, which would push Fusion back to 2054 at the absolute earliest. Dread: All we know is that it's after Fusion, that's it. Since Samus's suit isn't fully healed yet I would imagine that it's not TOO far forward, but otherwise there's nothing I could use to give a number. So yeah, in the end, the Metroid series definitely spans more than 15 years, but could reasonably fit within 20.

It's also nice to see that a game was made that continued after the events of Metroid Fusion after all these years. That was quite a difficult game to beat as well so it definitely left an impact on a teenage me.

Primes have been outright states to be canon by both series directors. Proteus Ridley exists as he does as an attempt for a miminum levek consistency (in that he was slowing returning to an organic form). Other M is canon. Just not well written and even worsely dubbed. Contradictions be damned, Zero Mission and Samus Returns contradicts Super/Fusion, as she per Fusion Samus only learned to Wall Jump and Shine Spark in Super Metroid. Metroid is not a Bastion of consistency.

I get that you don't like Federation Force (I didn't either), but if you're going to make a review on a series' whole chronology the least I'd expect is a more objective insight into each game. And neglecting an official remake of a game to put a fan remake reeks fanboyism. Lastly, the attempts at humor in some parts of the video feel very forced. TBH.

Federation Force is a joke but that's neither here nor there...and as for AM2R, it's widely respected in the community for a reason. The "fanboyism" comment is incredibly rude and dismissive of the artistry that went into that project. Also, I'm sorry that I tried to be funny instead of dry and boring, but it's worked for most people.
