I love your style of reviews, Omar ..thanks for doing this one ..I’ve been waiting on it!
My favorite lens for my Fuji system as well, I am using it with my X-T20 for all my portrait sessions. Although I really miss the weather sealing and the faster focusing speed, this lens is absolutely marvelous. I love the rendering, the color tones, and it's bokeh is MUCH smoother than any of my 85 1.8 lens had on my full frame system. I have used this lens for many senior portrait session, and I am amazed every time after the shoots, when I view the images on my monitor. There is something about this I cannot describe....
I love your videos! I never have to scrub through your vids to get information. Keep up the awesome work!
Great sense of humor AND very informative. Love your videos, Omar
Its very exciting while watching this mannso funny and all of the detail that i need regarding to my xt20 it helps me alot! Thanks Omar!
Love your Reviews. Funny and entertaining, and with lot content 👍🏻
Love your videos! from Italy, just Thank You!
Nice video! Please Omar make a review of the XF 80 which seams to be a very good lens for portraits 😍
Omar, I just sent you a tip to say thank you. I've been watching your videos throughout my journey with Fuji. The XT-20 went to the little sister after I moved up to the XT-3. Just ordered the 56mm 1.2 after watching this over and over for about a year. Thank you for the effort and motivation. Your style of presentation is great!

Hi Ben :) now after some time with the lens, what do you think of it as an all arounder? I've got the X T20 three months ago with the 18 55 and I'm looking to get either 35 mm f2 or 56 mm f1.2 for street photography and portraitures.
I was stuck between this lens and the 35mm 1.4, went with the 35mm for my budget. I love it, takes great photos and it has become my main lens (I don’t do a lot of fast shots because the auto focus is slow, so I use a back focus button)
Thanks. Just picked this up with the X-T4. Will put out a video on that shortly.
Awesome, honest review. Great shots as always. Love your videos.
Nice review and great pictures! I want to know if this lens would be great for nature photography?? Would it make sense to take only this lens on a backpacking trip and use it with the X-T3??
Great video. Thanks! I love your style (and content!). So entertaining. :) I have this lens and love it except one thing - the auto focus really doesn’t feel fast enough. My 23f2 definitely focuses faster which comes in handy when I’m shooting kids and other moving things. Do you find that to be the case?
Great video Omar, just gained a sub. I’m really tempted in buying this lens but I was hoping the minimum focusing distance was a little tighter. I own the 23mm and love it for overall shooting but this 56mm has me tempted for more portraiture work. Again great video.
Hi omar, great video keep up the good work. Can you suggest me the lens for all around photography, from portraits to landscapes?and not very costly 😅For Xt30
You truly are a cut above the rest, very entertaining and informative. At times, I lean more on your spontaneous expressions which pulls me in to be glued on with your videos. Sorry to hear about the fall on your xt-20 :( Keep it up, Omar. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the 56mm. Quite an investment, otherwise if I would have a paid assignment, I could purchase one.
I got the 90 f2 a little month ago. Man it's amazing. I really love the 85mm focal length, more than a 135mm, but the close focus won me over. And the focus speed is just... Instant! Wow! Think I'll go 50 f2 instead to keep the budget a little low 😅😍 but man are those lenses just awesome.
Omar with another classsssssic review, and entertaining as always, keep it up !

I own the apd version of this lens with pretty much the same character. It replaced my original R version which the carrier lost on return From service 🙁 I am now awaiting a copy of the R lens as I still prefer it over the apd. If you want to get it to focus closer a couple of options are a close up filter or pop a thin extension tube in between the lens and body 😊👍🏻
I used the 56 and 35 but then the 90f2 and my Goodness the 90mm is the way to go for me and with the XH1 its Lovely 😊
Hi , great video. What is the grip you have on the XT20? Thanks Chris
I used to do a lot of model shoots with the Sony A7RII with the Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8. Over the summer I switched to the XT-20 with the XF 56mm f/1.2 and I haven't looked back. Also, it's nice to know I'm not the only dork who takes pictures of the candy bowls at B&H (and the lone candy bowl at Adorama. In my opinion if Adorama wants to be considered a serious competitor to B&H it will need some more free candy).😊

Thanks for the vids I am in the market for a Fuji camera because of your vids I am getting the Xt-20. Can you test the xf 80 mm
Hi Omar, great video as always. Could you please advise a good place to check for this lents in New Jersey? I’ll be on vacation there at the end on year so I want to check for it. Thanks!
I just bought my h1. Im coming from sony e mount system. I'm very pleased with the price of lenses. I paid 2400 for my 70200gm lens. U can buy 2-3 essential lenses with that money for fuji!

Marián Čuprík that would make the 8-16mm somewhat the choice, at 2.8 it’s already huge. I held it, not sure I would want it permanently, but would def. rent it for once. A 10-12mm f1.4 would be bulkier
thanks for the effort and the sharing. i very much enjoy your YT channel. i am an appreciative subscriber. would the 56/1.2 still make sense with an older fuji body like the X-T1? does it need the faster AF and higher resolution of the X-T2/X-T3? if i may ask, how do you use it, single point or continuous? (oh, REALLY love the pix of the B&H candy bowl!) stay well. thumbs up.
Omar, brilliant video. Informative and entertaining. Good sense of humor! Keep on going.

Hi, so i never watched any videos of you before, this was the first one. I really like your style and honesty! Also i jumped and screamed when a wild Kai appeared! :-D Awesome!! I immediately subbed! Gotta watch more of your videos after posting this comment. (I also shoot with Fujifilm, X-T2 and X-Pro1 at the moment, using a variety of lenses.)
Is there an easy manual focus (like turning the lens barrel)?
nice portrait shots, the skateboard wheels stood out and matched the girls clothing real nice, yea, I like how Fuji does their lenses, big glass, all metal on most but somehow feel light, or comparitivly light.
Picked this up (non APD) at a second hand camera store in Japan for $900 USD -- one of the best purchases I ever made. A very solid lens with fantastic bokeh and don't regret leaving Canon for the XT-20 and this thing.
Hey, thanks for this video! I wonder which camera and lens you used to record this video? And Im curious - why will it not replace your canon system for work? :)
I am so confussed! Today I had the chance to try a little bit the 56 1.2 on my X-T3. I must say that I had higher expectations on this lens. I did not like the AF speed, noise and hunting. Also quite difficult to nail focus at f1.2. I am currently using the 50 f2, 23 f2 and 16-55 f2.8 and all of them are super fast focusing and extremely quiet. I am hesitating about getting the 56 1.2 or going for the 90 f2. For indoors the 90 may be too much, but I still have the 50 f2. Is there a loving curve about the 56 1.2 or it is just love at first sight?
Great video again. Consider the 50mm f2. Paired with the 90mm f2, you´re set up for portraits. My favorite kit anyway :-)
How did you get these stable shots as neigther the 56 nor the camera does not have stabization?
Hi, I wanna ask if yours is kinda loud when trying to focus? Thanks
Hi Omar, great video! Question: what's that hood on the 56mm you got there? That isn't the standard Fuji hood, right?
Wow! that bokeh is really nice. Thanks for the review sir Omar. I hope you can give some review for 35mm f1.4 I heard so many people that this lense is also great.
Great summary of the lens! Are your photos jpg SOOC?
Just wanted to tip everyone that the nice (but pricy) original Fujifilm metal lens hood with square front for the Fujinon 23mm F1.4 also fits on the 56mm F1.2. And since the hood doesn't vignette on the 23mm, it for sure won't vignette on the 56mm. And it looks awesome. Almost exactly like the 16mm with it's similar hood on. 😍

I just bought the metal 23mm fuji lenshood in the store (Blackfriday deal, only 35 dollars) because of your post! It's freaking amazing!!!! WAYY better than the stupid plastic standard hood. Now everything has a metal high quality build....
Great job! I hope you do one for the XF35mm WR as well. Really unsure which one to pick between the 35 and the 56 for travel photography

Imran Mitha just speaking of mm‘s 35 will give you much more versatility while traveling! But can’t say anything about pic quality itself...
I actually just dropped my xt2 and 56 1.2 last week. I almost had a heart attack. Peak design neck strap came loose on the bottom and it hit the NYC concrete with a crash, bouncing a bit. Battery came out and everything. Thankfully, though, almost zero body damage (small cosmetic scratch on bottom) and lens only got a tiny chip in the exterior metal (which I colored in with a black marker!). I almost want to get the cosmetic damage repaired, but not worth the money. These cameras are pretty robust! Glad to hear yours survived, too :)

Arménio Barão the metal mount that you screw in came loose. No idea why, but my guess is it just slowly unscrewed over time. I still use it, but I check that it’s firmly in-place every time I go out now. This was the new Leash
Omar, your videos are great! I've been watching your videos for 2 weeks and you convinced me to buy an X-T20! I've already ordered one and I can't wait to start shooting. (I have to wait till next week because they only have the black one and I need a silver one :). I have a Nikon 7100 with 3 lenses but this camera looks so amazing! I'm going to sell Nikon, it is heavy! And your videos are so full of great information and also very funny! Keep on filming and thanks! 😊
Hi Omar, if you could choose only one between this and 50mm f2, which one would it be? Thanks!
What do you think about 50mmf2 ? I love bokeh but the size of 50f2 makes me thinking more. Have a got any suggestion ?
I just bought one ..it's on the way...So excited ..
Totally agree, not super versatile but it does portraits REALLY REALLY well! Thanks Omar!
Looks very soft wide open. Also even an f2 lens gives enormous background blur in macro distances, as it makes no dif if dof is 1cm or 2.
Love your videos man!
Well yes its quite expensive for most of us starting with me, I just switched from Canon to Fuji. The equivalent lens in the Canon line up sets you back to 1,899!!! Now which is more expensive?
I know this video is a bit old but how I wish you could do a review on the 50mm for portraits and low light performance compared to the 56. I love your channel and how fun you make everything. I don’t feel like there is a good review of the 50mm out there yet and your thoughts on it would be great! It focuses much closer than the 56-I don’t own the 56 to really know though. The 50 is great to take photos of my kids but I will always wonder about the 56! Thanks
Hi Omar, as always great video. I love the 56 mm. Team it up with the 35 F1.4 (old school and not the new F2) and you have a great combination to cover all basis. If you add the 16mm F 1.4 then you have 3 beautiful primes, all good for low light and just beautiful image quality. But as you say its up to the individual, their requirements and their budget. Would be good to see a video of you using the 56 mm in a portrait shoot to pass on some technique and tips for us mere mortals. Thanks and regards Steve. Dubai
Pretty cool video Omar . Did you get the chance to try the Rokinon 50mm 1.2? ( that is $400) Or the Fuji 50mm f2.
Please do a review on 23m f2.. Tips on how to have not-shaken-pics
9:55 WOW! That _alone_ is a _major_ selling point for me. For literally _decades_ now I've been very frustrated seeing that even the best lenses (say, the 43mm for the Mamiya 7) had an abysmal number of aperture leaves (typically 5 to 6). This was doubly annoying because the lenses made for _movie_ cameras (e.g. Angenieux) all had enough aperture leaves to make the out-of-focus highlights into perfectly round discs while in the still photography we had to curse at the usual sea of pentagons or hexagons. Glad to see it change at long last. Looks like this one has 13 leaves?
may I ask what u used to film this video?
I am considering buying a x-t30 with xf 56 1.2. Does the C-AF work fast enough for portraits with x-t30?
I already have a 35mm f2. nd 56mm is my dream lens but it so expensive.. what can you say about about 50mm f2? Is it a good lens or should i save a lil bit more for a 56mm??
For I don't do that much portrait this lens is simply too expensive for me. So I just brought the Samyang 50mm / 1.4 from my trip to Germany and that's only about € 350. But had no time to try for now. Hope it will work for me with the manual focus :). Thx for you thoughts and a great video as always.
HI Omar! I'm a hobbyist photographer and a recent convert to Fuji. Big fan (new big fan) of your channel :-) I just wanted to ask since most of your videos I've seen has the 56mm on the X-T20. I'm finding that it is somewhat slow to lock on focus. Have you tried it with the X-T3/30 and is the AF much better with the newer bodies?
I just returned the copy that I bought because there was some dust inside. Just curious if you’ve had any issues with dust and if it’s common. Thanks for the video, by the way.
definately cool to see reviews of the 56 in 2018, for a not WR overpriced 85 equivalent that's a dealbraker for sure.
Your videos are excellent. I am a Nikon shooter but I enjoy the way you present your content. Please consider including other brands in your production.
I love that lens...my favourite. I am sooooo sorry to hear that you dropped your X-T20. Will Fujifilm repair it for you? :-)
Great review I like the non-technical aspect of it and just show pictures pictures pictures
Thx for the good video. I got to fix the hole in my pocket to got one of these lens!
You're a lovely guy Omar. Keep up the fantastic content! :)
What do you think of the Fuji 50mm f2? How does it compare image quality wise?
I was about to buy this Lens but changed my mind after watching this video. I have 23 f2 and am pretty happy with it, just thought I need something else - but not really…
Man, just love your videos! so funny.
Have you ever been to Bergen County Camera? That might be a more pleasant experience than the B&H in NYC
I just bought Fuji X E3.... I travel a lot, next month I'm going Europe, I will take do street photography and will do some portrait too. Please suggest me a lense for both ... which lense is best all rounder lense?
Hi omar, I've already had xt20 + xf35mm f2 + kit lens. I'm in big dilemma now whether upgrade camera or lenses. In ur opinion which one do u prefer, stick with xt20 then buy xf56mm f1.2 (maybe other lenses) or upgrade to xt2 but using the existing xf35mm f2 + kit lense?
@ikoy.21

Anton Sujarwo keep xt20, upgrade ur lens
I would love to see how the lens performers in night street photography, not specifically for the bokeh part, but of how it handles a low light "natural" environment. I know you showed a low light scenario with the event photos, but I would love to see it perform with the city lights. Can you consider that?
So are you replacing your x-t20 for an x-t2 or an xh-1?
That damage is a sign for.. X-H1 lol :) I just finished event shooting and you are right.. 35 f1.4 helped a lot even without flash.. i guess 56 1.2 is my next goal probably in 6months :)
🤔 I have the Viltrox 85 (120ish focal length /similar to the xf 90) and 35 F1. 4 do you think I should add the 56 or go for the 16 f1. 4?

Omar. Definitely a great lense. I own it. And your absolutely right, such a specialty lense you cannot just walk around with just that. But wow for sure
Can you do a tutorial on astrophotography with the Fuji xt20
I already have the 90mm and the 35mm 1.4, do you think I should aim for this lens eventually? Or really Nah, forget it. I am not the two person that you mentioned in the video, lol.
After selling one of my kidneys, I was able to pick up the 56 and 23 this evening. Fuji is on sale right now, so that helped take some of the sting away. Looking forward to really getting out there and trying these lenses. Thank you for the great overview... It really helped drive my decision.

Dude you mentioned you were debating between the 56 and the 90mm lenses for close-ups but isn't it actually the 80mm that is the macro lens..? Also what lens would you recommend me for shooting in raves?(low light) The 56 1.2 or would the 40-150 2.8 be good enough for low light? Or should i go with the 80/90mm? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Hey Omar! I’ve recently purchased the 56mm and brought it and x-t20 with me for a holiday in Kuala Lumpur, and I have to say it did not disappoint! did a lot of street shots and I loved the compression it gives. Got some really sharp and nice photos as well!
Sad about your broken xt-20 :-( ... nice you made reference to Kai W .. one of my favorites
Is the APD version worth getting?
Great video Omar
I had heart palpitations when I saw the lens laid on the table without the cap 1:15. I couldn’t get beyond that part of the video.
Ahhh, the 56mm 1.2. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways! I freaking love this lens. It has it's quirks for sure, but man oh man do I love everything about the image quality. I can't believe how tack sharp it can be at 1.2. It's the biggest lens I own and it still fits nicely in the palm of my hand. Also, while $1,000 is a lot, it's totally worth it (for me at least) and still $350 cheaper than the Canon 50mm 1.2. :)

Hi Omar, as you mentioned the 23mm (f2?) or 35mm (f2?) because of the price against the 56mm 1.2 is worth considering; I am actually also in a budget but which aperture for the 23 and 35mm were you hinting at? - thanks in advance for your reply.
