IMO, if the focus is on a person or the design aspect of building, I like B&W. If it's graffiti, food or nature, I prefer color.
In 2016 I switched from my old Canon equipment to a Fujifilm X-T10 and the 27mm pancake lens because I avoided using the Canon due to the size. On my first trip with that Fujifilm setup I instantly fell back in love with photography. That first trip with the 27mm lens is still some of my favorite images of my wife and my father while we were on vacation. Looking at them now, some are out of focus and suffer from many poor decisions on depth of field but I still love the way they look and the way they evoke the memory of that trip. As technically poor they were, for me they were so much better than most of what I had done in the past. And it was mostly possible because I was able to pocket the X-T10 and the 27mm in my winter coat without much thought while we went from spot to spot and by just stepping back a few feet I could frame everyone in an image. Looking back now the 23mm would be better or even the 16mm but that 27mm has such a soft spot in my heart. My only gripe is the lack of aperture ring but what can you do with a pancake?
Recently found this channel since I just picked up an XT20. Appreciate all of the new videos since I am still learning how to best use this camera.

Just so fine
Love the discussion of your struggle points. B&W is the clear winner
me encantan tus videos, tu forma de comunicar y que hagas divertido un análisis que al final resulta ser exhaustivo y sobre todo real. sos un genio.
Great video! The one with the chess player is definitely coming to its right in colors. The one with your mom and the tree shadows is a beautiful bw photo. Generally I think most of the photos were better in colors, but it greatly depends on the subject and the mood you want to convey.
Omar, always watch your reviews, nice !!! That's why I like the Fuji X100 series, great prime lens, 35mm equivalent, always use zone focusing for street photography, so quick to snap a picture !!!! most of my pictures are from waist level while my camera is hanging from my neck. 1/500, f8, auto ISO, set to about 10 feet (will focus around 4-20 feet, somewhere around there) hardly ever miss a shot. Also, the little flash that's within the body, does a fantastic job filling in.
B&W for street! Love the pics, especially that bicycle....so bootyful. You'll love the 23mm f2 once you start using it more, it's my favorite of the f2 trinity.
You make me laugh, love watching your reviews, you keep it real. Thank you
I absolutely love Fujifilm Acros with max grain and mid + shadow settings!
I’m not a 35mm guy, so I have the 18/28mm glued on an xt20. I use all the others (12, 16, 34, 55, 55-140 on an xt2 with RRS plate- a little easier to grip with my long fingers. That little lens and little body is a great combo.
You are one of the funniest guy I have ever known in my life. Thank you for the joy you bring to us :)
Love the B&W! ..especially with the pic of guy walking toward Macy's. Great work Omar! Really enjoy watching your channel.

Totally agree, that's one great photo!
You really are kind of lovable. I had seen this video already (before owning my XT-20) but watched it again today, and liked the B/Ws a whole lot.
Great job! Thanks for the videos! I like the black and white.
Depends on what you want to present, b&w gives much mood and maybe your feelings at the moment. But there are also beautiful colors on street that you can’t present in b&w.
I shoot b&w almost exclusively for street (and in general). With the T20 you always have an easy way out if color turns out to be what makes the photo, but until then Acros is the way to go. I think your included shots "pop" more in b&w as well - "bike" shot included. That being said, I still prefer loading Acros in my super-discreet Nikon F4...
Totally luv that bicycle shot!! 👀
Been watching a while now. Great segments; love my Xt-20 too! Generally I prefer black and white for street photography. However, color images do have their place IMO. I try both and see which works. Thanks for all the vids and look forward to you vacation posts.

They have their place. :) like that
I much prefer black and white for street, I was always taught to only use colour in Street if it adds something extra to the image. Loving these videos Omar, I've just converted to Fujifilm from Canon.
Yo, just bought my first camera this last week. It's an xt20 and I'm lovin it so far. Big thanks to you and your channel. I would say all the pictures actually work better in BnW.
I think black and white is more compelling. I love it cause it's more dramatic a little more straight to the point. It also has a timeless look. but I also love color photography because the colors can help set up the scene and tell a story.
looking forward to seeing your 23mm f2.0 review
Hey Omar! First of all, thanks for posting fun and informative videos. Between your vids of the camera and The Art of Photography's vids about the lenses, I went out and bought myself an XT20! As for this video, and your questions about your work and street photography in general... I love seeing someone show their development in an area they're not familiar with - you have to be brave to open yourself to criticism. You ask about cropping - crop away! There are no rules, only good photos, bad photos, and photos that mean something to you (and only the latter really matters). You ask about black and white - it's clear from the shots at the end that you see, and thrive on the colour in the world. Most of your photos fall flat when converted to B&W. The exceptions being, your mum in the Subway (though we only saw that in B&W), the chaps with the phone and the hand gesture (though, not a super strong image imo), the guy with the coffee (which is as good, but not better), and the chess player - easily the best B&W, and maybe the best street shot you got. The contrasty light with the eyes being drawn to his hands and the board work a treat! A beautiful pic! Another fave of mine was the 50/50 architecture shot with the tree. Really nice. Thanks again and keep up the great vids!
What a great setup! I want one just like it!! So cool!
Try ”FRONT BUTTON FOCUS" by making your Fn button the focus button. It sits right next to the shutter! I set the AFL to Eye Detection, which I only occasionally use. Love your vids!
The duck tho! LOL! Great video as usual, Omar! Hope your mom has a fantastic visit!
I like them in color. They have more character & tell more about the scenes.
The B&W photos are awesome!
Have to say B&W brings the photos into a new dimension. Colored ones look great in their own way.👌
I love this lens. I've used it for all sorts of shots. Got mine for $250, too. I even used it for long exposure fireworks photos on the 4th.

a great review of the 27/2.8 for street photography....
I really like this guy. Thanks, Omar.
I am enjoying ur reviews after 2 years .. becoz i am jumping from Nikon to Fuji now. Keep up your good job 👍
Love your videos, you got a new subscriber. Watching your content not in chronological order to mix it up. Plus that shot of the bicycle looks nice, works even with black and white.
I love the B&W
I have spent two different weekends in NYC with the 27f2.8 + XT20 combo and it worked great both times. The place is so huge that have that bit of 4mm zoom over the 23 is just fine, even preferable. If there is sky + building I throw it into bracketing mode and let Google Photos make an HDR for me.
Awesome review Omar, I really loved the BW version of your street shots more than the colour.
B&W is great for street photography but sometimes the colors look good to bring out the subject on your frame! Fuji color are amazing man!
Thank you for your reviews. I have been looking for pancake compact lens for my xt 200
I use the fn button next to the shutter for "back button" focus, that way I can shoot one handed and still use back/side button focus. Works well on the X-E3 at least. I've also stopped using the lens cap for the 27mm, still got it, but the front element is so small and retracted into the lens that it's pretty hard to get anything to scratch it if you're just putting it in your pocket or camera bag.
Your street photography is perfect if you are happy with the result and enjoyed it. That's my opinion. Loved many of your pictures and I'm a fan of your channel :) Keep it up man!
love the B+W shots!
Interesting differences from the way I use my XT20 with street photography. I use the "flipflip" screen most of the time so it looks like I'm just looking at something on the screen and not actively taking a shot. I still use back button focus though and sometimes adjust with manual and the peak focusing if needed. I would like to try that lens though. Cool video....Oh and I do like the black n white for street most of the time unless something about the color image is compelling...with lots of contrast. :)
Enjoyed this one! Some I like in black and white, others I prefer in colour.
Really looking fwd to getting this lens for everyday use
The B&W’s looked amazing bro

Sorry, I thought just the building facade and the chess players looked better in monochrome. The rest were definitely colour shots. Having said that, my view is, if the colour isn't prominent it can be confusing, so go for B/W. Also, in my view, cropping is just as acceptable as any other editing.
IMHO I lean toward B&W shots. I think the mood is always better. I would have done almost everyone in B&W if it were me. I did really focus on the bike with the couple walking as well. Great video.
Just got a xt2 and came across your channel. Love your videos 👍👌📸
Love the 23mm Omar . Thank Chris . LOve Colour.
I keep the 27mm on at all times. It’s a little wide for everyday in my opinion. But it’s great if you like to get in on your subject. I used to shoot 40mm equiv. exclusively, but since I have drifted to loving the 135mm equiv. So together this is my kit. One big old rifle looking camera and a little p&s shooter.
Enjoyed your video! I'm really liking my Fuji xt20, I'm trying to figure out which lens to purchase first. Love the B&W photos!

Omar, just started watching your post on youtube. I enjoy the content for sure but more then that, I really enjoy your humor. Been looking for a Fujifilm X100V with no luck. Settled for a used X-E3 with a 27mm lens. Been happy with it so far. Looking to increase my taking of black and white photos. I usually photograph with Sony but Fujifilm offers some interesting options . Looking forward to seeing more of your posts.
Omar- The shot that caught my eye most was the guy and the Snapple bottles. I don’t know if you noticed on the shelves of drinks the bottle of Pepsi drunkenly leaning against another one? Loved that little insert! Sometimes b&w is necessary because, to quote the great Jane Bown, the colours are often distracting. But sometimes, also, colour is needed to enhance or emphasize a statement. You do phenomenal work and I enjoy your instructional approach.
I love all of your videos, but checked this one out because I just preordered the new 27mm MK II. It shares the same optical formula as your older vintage lens, so based on your photos, I will be very happy, even when shooting wide-open. Thanks for doing this review. FWIW... I like your shots when presented in color just fine... but the montage at the end in B&W was great, almost timeless. Some of those shots could have been inserted in an old book of 1950s/'60s street photography. Keep doing what your doing, and I'll keep watching.
You are so funny and have a great personality!! Definitely subscribing!
U doing well, Rican. Just got a Fuji XT2. The colors and b&w are spit on. Love your channel. I'm originally from Brentwood, LI.
You crack me up! I like the lens. May consider it
I think when the light is good and there are strong shadows that black and white street photography works well, but I also like color in my street photography too. I guess I just go either way!
BW Rocks. Very good review for real life usage of this lens.
Just got this and I love it!! :D
I was in Hong Kong earlier today and was debating buying the 23mm f2 or the 27mm f2.8 it was so hard luckily the shop owner went out with me and let me try both display lenses I eventually went with the 27mm and went out shooting I got some great shots and had lots of fun with it. But i still had to come watch your video to see your thoughts on it haha.
Thanks. Really helpful. Bought the X-T20 about six weeks ago with the 18-55mm lens. Your videos are informative and funny! Street photography rules? Make your own. Like the BW shots.
Great video as always, I considered the xt-20 but went with the X100F an I love it. Only thing I'd like to have is the flip screen. Very jealous of that ;-)

Use camera remote on your phone. You can be a little more surreptitious with the phone.
Great vid as usual mate, you crack me up .... Black and White for me but I appreciate your colour shots also. Cropping isn't cheating , I think that the only thing that's a bit " iffy" is using a long zoom for street work.
Most of those short work really good in b&w, nice review.
5:38 LOL!!!! JPEG edit all the way. So much faster and the shots coming out of the XT-20 almost perfect. Omar, how about you do a video where your fans send you a sample pic of their street shot so that you can provide your thoughts?
@ogonzilla

Anthony G that’s a great idea. I’ll set that up!
LOL. I love your sense of humor and prefer street photography in black in white in most cases. I would use color for the fruit or market photos, for example.
Thanks :) yeah I think one shoots differently when you're shooting black and white. So I shoot black and white & RAW (forces me to download that memory card more regularly) and then I focus more on contrast and composition etc. Later when I get home it's sometimes nice to see some of em in colour haha. (I know you already did a vid on monochrome so you're a step ahead man)
B&W all the way... I just left the Olympus M 4/3 world and picked up a Fujifilm X100 classic and shortly after that purchased an X100F that is such a sweet camera. Today I purchased a X-T30 & 15-45mm kit (at a great price), 18-55mm and the 27mm 2.8 and can't wait to have them in my hands... Enjoy your style with these video's. Thanks
I keep the 23 2.0 on my T2 as my daily lens...I would the 16mm but its weight is a little high for daily use...but every now and then I change it to the 16mm when heading out to work.
Excellent review! The 35mm is too restricting and the 27mm is the sweet spot. I wish they had made it f2.0 instead of 2.8.

Ferdiyan Surya that’s my issue right now. I have the 18-55 lens so I’m in two minds whether or not to get the 27mm. If it was f2 I would have jumped at it.

Jungli 999 if you only use for street photography, you can’t go wrong with the 27mm. But if you plan to use it for all round lens, then I would suggest to go for the 23f2. The extra stop will help you in low light conditions.

Just found this. Great video on 'how to use...' from your personal experience. The B/W works where color *isn't* the story, like the drinks machine and the duck's head in store window. Chess? Heck yes! What I like to do is turn saturation to 0 to get a quick idea of what the photo looks like in BW, a very easy step. It can sometimes bring life to a photo I thought was bad.
A useful shortcut for black and white stills in the X serie: hit and hold the display back button two seconds,,until fonction settings appear, go to fn1, and choose the film simulation for this button. You can go to A (acros) or B (monochrome). Done.
Great vid. I have the 35 f2 and love the little thing. It’s very usable for street if a bit limited. Should I get the 23 f2 for some extra fov or should I just stick with the wide end of my 18-55 f2.8-4 that is collecting dust? Also, acros b&w is awesome.
Hi Omar, always great to see your videos. The fun part is your strong suit and makes it so great to watch your videos! What is your setup for capture yourself? Thx

I think I used the Sony a6400 in this video. Using the a7c nowadays
Nice video!! informative AND entertaining. Thanks!!
In your video you say that your eyes are drawn straight to that bicycle, but I actually found my eyes were drawn straight to the colorful shoes on the left person. Great video. Thanks for the tips.
What an amazing bicycle!
Never saw the bycicle! So fun 😂
Your videos are awesome 🙏🏻
I enjoy watching your videos (great for when I need a break) and I really liked the shots you showed us. The chicken was better in color, and the guy playing chess because of the shadows, somehow. But almost all the shots looked really great in B/W as well as in color. Hard choices.
Just watching this as I’ve bought the lens to have a camera that I can pop in my pocket. I really like your ethos of treating people in the street how you would like to be treated yourself. I think that’s really important. I think too I’d delete any pic that could potentially embarrass someone if they were to see it. I think I’ll be more buildings and the back of people. I’m about as stealthy as a bulldozer. The B&W photos are really beautiful
Great review ! 😄
If you want to be stealth tray the 55-200mm fujinon, it will put away from private circle of the people, but is more notorious because of the size, but is good for places with lot of distracted people

Good idea if your goal on the street is to look like a PI or a pervert.
I love B/W street photography. I do street a lot and sometimes do B/W for some of my snaps. Personally I just love both.
I love the mix❤️ of both b&w and color it's make your stories so interesting and funny like that bicycle picture 😂👍🏽! And it happened to me in NY several years ago with a Batman Arkham knight 😂!!! Thank God I was further back so by the time he noticed I was gone!!!
Great video. I liked the BW photos of people. The man with the suitcase was perfect, but fruit, veg and general food shots are better in colour (poor Duck - sad face). That's my two pennyworth! I've just got the 27mm so this was great to watch. Looking forward to seeing how you got on with the 23mm. xx
Thanks mate!
I think I like colors more for your street. That BICYCLE! There has to be a lens cap for the 27mm like w/ the X100 series. I’m interested if you find one. I added the Heliopan filter to my 27 for protection. Crazy minimal.
Truly anchored till the end, Omar funny and practical share of your thoughts on the same lens I would like to buy. I relate to your way on street photography, kind of stealthy way of doing it. What matters is you are having fun with our passion! Way to go! The black and white images were rendered well. Did you zeroed out the saturation in LR or clicked B&W in the color panel? Regards!
Fun video. My favorite was the chess shot.
My daily setup is x-pro2 with 23 1.4 but i'm reeaaaaaaly looking at getting x-e3 with 27 2.8 just as my smaller setup I can put in my jacket. This thing is so sharp for it's size!

Great video. Nice to see someone brave enough to admit they use the SOOC JPG or edit the Fuji JPG. This is what Fuji is about. Forget RAW. 👌
