    To add to my last comment what I liked most about your channel was just you being you. No script, no gags, no drama. Just a guy trying to get a plane in the air again. This seems to becoming less about the 401 and more about driving for subscribers. There's enough of that kind of crap on YT so how about you focus less of being another clickbait channel and get back to what got you here.... a guy trying to rebuild a plane and bringing us along to share in the journey. Trust me when I say, how you started out is the right formula. Whoever on your team has you going down this path, please for the love of god tell them to shut up or better yet, get rid of them. I saw absolutely zero reason to do a high speed taxi on that airplane right now. Why? To get it running and stopping and then taxi it around the airport to warm things up a bit, sure, that sounds like a reasonable plan. However, doing a high speed taxi like that was very risky, and in my opinion, reckless. What if one engine had quit, or even more likely, one brake locked up as it heated up (I had that happen to me in a King Air once) and pulled you off the side of the runway? I'm a professional pilot and that incident almost pulled me off the runway on a takeoff roll. While you've left us with a cliffhanger, not knowing what happened, I can say it's no surprise, especially after filling the engine with fuel due to leaving the fuel pumps on. Whether it was gravity from the main tank that filled it with fuel or it was being pumped in every time the master switch was turned on, doesn't much matter as it's pretty apparent the cause is that no checklists are being used in either operations or maintenance. After that fuel in the oil happened, that engine should have been uncowled and inspected before ever starting it back up after that. Airplanes are cool but when they get bent and/or catch fire they can be difficult to get out of, not to mention the possibility of a hull loss. I just think there was too much risk on this one.

    I was in aviation for 7 years, we take safety extremely serious. This guy shouldn't be around airplanes. Not having a certified mechanic, doing things without a checklist, performing high speed tests on an aircraft in this condition rather than getting it fixed properly first- its just another version of getthereitits. He needs to keep making content, and this plane will take years and half a mil to fly again, so he's taking shortcuts, changing tires, doing high speed taxis before he's ready just to get likes. It's disgusting and reckless and no one should give him a $.

    I've been watching this series of videos since the beginning and things are starting to feel wrong. Given that so much fundamental work needs doing to the airframe (inspections, repairs, re-checks and certifications, for example) I can't help but feel that over the last few videos we're no closer to seeing the aircraft performing the role that we were promised it would perform. Given that many of us have donated money to the project with that role in mind I feel that perhaps some videos of this work being undertaken by engineers and technicians with the necessary qualifications would be more appropriate than stunts and reality TV schtick. I get that Jason has hurt his leg and this has slowed the project down - that's unfortunate and accidents happen, but having read through a lot of the comments it seems that he may have some explaining to do. It would be a real shame to see this excellent project descend into any sort of clickbait or faux-drama with the intention of gaining views, likes, popularity or whatever. The viewers of these videos want to see that aircraft in the air, doing the job we were promised it would do, and if that takes a while, I feel we would rather wait for content that reflects the process of the 401's journey to airworthiness in the appropriate fashion than watch dangerous and half-baked stunts. I'm sorry if the direct nature of my criticism seems harsh, and I don't mean to cause offence; I and many other commenters and donators feel that we should be getting what we signed up, and stumped up, for. Thanks, Jack

    Yeah, fuel leaking through the rings should have been a red flag.. Fuel ain't supposed to do that on idle, pistons are press fit into cylinders, the rings are there to stop large leaks during the warming up cycle of an engine as the piston takes more time to fully warm than the engine body does on purpose, seizing pistons in high RPM sound very expensive. Probably when the engine warmed up the gaps in the cylinder got bigger and hot burning fuel got injected into the oil system. hyper-pressurized oil system burst and suddenly with oxygen in it, the high temperature of the engine and burning jet fuel mixed in it, it's catching fire.

  • @mwhelan53

    @mwhelan53

    2 жыл бұрын

    @scarletfla... Dude, pistons are never press fitted- they have clearance so they do t seize in the cylinder. Piston rings are of two types. Oil control rings and compression rings - neither are designed to be ‘fuel tight’ for liquid fuel and in fact have a specified ring gap. Fuel under running conditions is mixed as a vapour with air.

    @@ScarletFlames1 is this observation based on years of experience or just popped into your head? The only way fuel can leach into the engine case is most likely the engine driven fuel pump diaphragms are toast allowing fuel to run back into the crankcase. Don't know the results of the fire yet but I'd venture to say the engine pump was leaking a lot of fuel past the case drain and it pooled in the cowling though it should run onto the ground through the overboard drain. Who knows it that was even connected. Additionally after sitting for more than 13 years not 17 and given the age and condition of this aircraft a fuel line could have broken spraying fuel throughout the cowling. Flexible lines get brittle with age.

    200,000$ ready to be spent on the 401, but he hasn't bothered having an actual A&P(s) come out and genuinely give insight to the actual logistics of overhauling the entire plane. Even Jimmy World's 310 has been a very daunting task for him and his team, which makes this very questionable considering that they're working on a smaller aircraft and have actively been shipping out parts to be overhauled, and still have a ton of work. Not really sure how we're meant to believe making the plane taxi means anything much, like of course everyone probably knew that the plane is capable of moving itself since both engines were already running, but it's something that seems to only matter if you're making KZread content, and aiming it at a general audience that doesn't have much knowledge about aviation. It's not more so about the cliffhanger, but more about how dragged out the project feels, even when there's enough money to start sending even just the engines to get overhauled. And I do agree with people concerned about the condition of the airframe itself and if the project is even possible. This is stuff that likely would've been considered if someone was genuinely trying to restore the aircraft, instead of multiple episodes of cleaning and making the engines "work enough".

  • @charlesmilson920

    I completely agree. There are many a&p mechanics including myself that have been commenting on the lack of supervision and the various tasks he is doing incorrectly. This is not some abandoned jeep in someone's backyard that anyone can tinker on and get back on the road. It is an airplane that requires a federally licensed mechanic to do the maintenance or at least be supervising all the work and all work needs to be documented in the logbook after each task is completed. He has done none of it and has actually ignored the comments trying to explain these facts or deleted them as some others have mentioned. I would love nothing more than this plane to fly again but it needs to be done correctly and show the viewers the correct way to do it and show them everything that's involved after losing the logbooks. He is making it look like anyone can go out and buy a cheap plane and wrench on it and eventually fly it. That can't be farther from the truth. The fact that the plane caught fire the first time they taxied it should show that their shortcuts and lack of proper licensed mechanic will end up getting people hurt or killed. As someone who is a licensed a&p as well as a pilot I would not put my name to anything he has done to include changing those tires nor would I taxi it after seeing the work he has done.

If you have genuinely interesting content (which you do), the only thing you will accomplish by trying to dramatize it is to make your supporters feel like you are trying to manipulate them. I know some of the money would be used for Angel Flights, well I hope it would, and not all of it used up on the restoration. If you are really serious about charity work, get the airframe checked and don't waste any more money restoring it if it has no chance of flying missions. Once and for all in aviation terminology....the parking ramp is not called a tarmac. Media gets that wrong just cause it's an airport. Tarmac is a type of asphalt not location. Parking ramp....taxi way. Runway. Fuel platform. Also that's not the correct diamond hazmat placard on the fuel truck. It's aviation fuel. Yes it's flammable . Type matters 100LL. Something doesn’t seem right about the whole thing. Like, they left the fuel valve on and were going to taxi test without a preflight? It has been stored outside for a long time in a wet climate. There has been next to no discussion about the condition of the airframe. If the airframe is in fact salvageable, you’d think they would have made a video about the inspection. I’ll venture a prediction; the 401 series is just a bunch of pointless noise to get people watching their channel and make some money. They know full well (both rebuild and the owner/former owner) that the airframe has deteriorated beyond repair. My guess is that the owner was going to sell it for scrap and Rebuild said ‘hey can we mess around with it for 6 months to make some KZread content’ to which he has agreed. I’m guessing they have contrived an engine fire and will then decide that the plane is beyond repair and move on to that boat thing. It is getting close to 6 months since they started making videos about this plane, in that time they haven’t really achieved much of anything.

So at the end they will end with a restored old plane (all done after this video-series of course), made a bunch of entertainment and a bunch of money to pay the crew for the work and the video-works. Or if not enough money raised for the overhaul, it can be put back outside for the next couple of years but at least the crew was payed, we got entertained (longer and longer video's for the real things to show) and if someone wants to put money in it it is for sale...

    This show has been a great journey and I have really enjoyed the episodes. The last few have gone down hill and is starting to feel like a dine and dash. I really hope that all of the donations and funds from this channel will actually let the 401 fly but honestly, it’s getting harder and harder to watch. Good things end when greed takes over. This last episode is ridiculous, why even put it out? There are great channels on KZread that have been down this path and then it gets too be too hard to watch because of ads and gimmicks. I do think there was an authentic feel at first other than the amount of production and your presence on the screen, it seems like you have had experience doing this before. Maybe instead of putting out garbage, maybe do a AMA or something to let us know who you really are and what your experience has been. This video with the cliff hanger is too much, next will be buying storage units at auction and finding Rolex’s and “treasures”. Listen to your comments on here. There are other ways to keep adding content and not lose the authenticity of your channel. Instead of just talking about how this plane is going to fly again, lay out a timeline and share with the viewers. It’s starting to feel like you are going to take the money and run, a little bait and switch. Just my thoughts but I think you are heading down the wrong path.

    It's obvious your viewers have become your stockholders. Some hate the ending from last week, some talk about the material of the video in a positive light. Very interesting seeing this all play out from a business perspective. These commenters are passionate about your content creation.

    you screw a clear hose with an adapter into the top of the master cylinder and go into a receiving bowl/container so you can get all the bubbles out and see them going through the hose.
