Too funny! I am a mom with ADHD. Despite my best efforts, I still have a tendency to zone out and be forgetful. When my oldest was in Kindergarten, we kept forgetting to return her take home folder. She meant to tell the teacher that we forgot the folder because I was day dreaming but instead she told the teacher that we forgot it because I was day DRINKING. Luckily the teacher thought it was hilarious and couldn’t wait to tell me but it was still humiliating 🤣

I sympathize with you. I would like to be a micro organizer out of sight tight but like you I cannot remember where things are so, I have to have things in plain sight. Which is messy I can’t even put them in big bins because I wouldn’t remember what is in the bin. My solution only works some of the time is class stored cabinets and tags on the containers. Of course they have to be nice containers that match and that’s always a struggle too. Let me know if you come up with some of their methods. Also let me know if you know of any ADHD groups I could join. Thanks and good luck be well, Karen

When my daughter was 6 our neighbor became pregnant and that's when my daughter decided she wanted to know where babies come from. The year before she'd asked and when I started to tell her she stopped me and decided she didn't want to know. But now she did because she was afraid she would get pregnant. I couldn't convince her that at 6 she didn't need to worry about it. So I start to tell her and she wanted more detail. I would give her more and ask if she wanted me to continue. She would narrow her eyes and sigh and say "Yes. Tell me." She ended up hearing the whole story. When I finished she just stared at me and narrowed her eyes. I said "Are you OK? Do you have any questions?" She said "Yeah. I'm ok. But Mommy?" I said "Yes baby. What is it?" She said " Adults are VERY WEIRD." 😂😂😂 I said "Yes they are."

Thank you for the in-depth explanation! I had taken the quizzes before, but was always confused - if I like hidden organizing, why are there (organized) piles of things out? Aha, so I *am* a cricket. I love macro organizing, because it's quicker and easier to maintain, but some things just. need. to. be. sorted. ("No, you canNOT put crayons and markers in the same bin!!!") This also makes me realize that my daughter is very visual (maybe a butterfly, or maybe just a typical nine-year-old!), and I need to adjust my organizational plans and methods for her space to reflect that.

My partner is 100% a ladybug. Once I figured this all I spent 5 days decluttering and reorganizing the kitchen. It’s visual to a point, it’s super macro and I compromised and got a pantry (technically an ikea wardrobe) and got a bunch put away in the there. It’s so functional for both of us now! Oh my goodness! That is hilarious!! As far as organizing types, I am definitely a bee. My husband is a ladybug. It drives me crazy when he "helps clean" because he just throws everything anywhere and everywhere to get it out of sight. The cluttered countertop drives him nuts. I usually end up with a mess everywhere because I never have time to put it away properly (I have 3 kids, 5yr, 3yr, and 2yr) , so I leave it out. But even when its a mess, I know where everything is. Changing to a more Macro organizing has helped tremendously. Its much easier for my kids to help pick up. When I clean their toys, I organize EVERYTHING like all the way down to separating the play food into categories. Hahaha Its pointless because 5 min later its all destroyed. Changing to more of a Macro style has also helped because it is a lot faster.

I've been decluttering and organizing my home now for a year (trial and error on organizing). As I was watch this today, I began to realize that I'm a person who likes to "hide" certain things while I like pretty things showing. My husband is a visual person and needs to see his stuff. So far I have decluttered my closet and drawers in my room. The living room is improved too. Today I just worked on my laundry room. We plan to pain in there but I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with the laundry room. So today after watch this video I completely took everything out KonMarie style, cleaned and organized it. • @SnowySpiritRuby

I personally find that making things easy to find is key for dealing with my ADHD - I'm more likely to get frustrated if it takes a long time to find something than if it takes a long time to put it away. But that's just me - I'm 1/2 cricket 1/2 ladybug - and I can imagine that macro categories are easier for some, for the ease of putting away part. Honestly, I think it really depends on the individual person - I'm pretty sure my dad has ADHD, and he's a classic cricket, but other people I know with ADHD are ladybugs and butterflies. For me, I find that once I've got my organization system set up, it's just as easy to put things away in a detailed system as it is in a macro system - usually all I have to do is open a drawer (or my accordion file) and put the thing in the right slot/spot.

@@SnowySpiritRuby I agree. Rather than think of it as micro / macro, I think of it as "easy to find" vs "easy to put away." And the difference really is where you'd rather spend your time: at the front end or back end. Will you take a few seconds to put something in a specific place so you don't have to look for it later? Then you're an "Easy to find" type person. Do you just want to toss something back in and spend a few seconds looking in a general area when you need it again? You're an "easy to put away" type.

I love these. When my children watched Wall-E, I noticed he was moving little junk piles and never getting anywhere. I really identified with that. My sister, a butterfly, came to help me organise and she told me to stop “micro-organising.” I cannot see big pictures and I like everything hidden away. I am definitely a cricket. 😂 My sister really helped by making me get Billy bookshelves and baskets, which I never would have thought of doing because I could only micro-organise.

The end story was the BEST. Kids say the darnest things. My daughter at about 4 was in a public bathroom with me and says something I couldn’t understand and then says REALLY CLEARLY “where are the doggy potties? You know, the one where daddy stands up and pretends he’s a dog?” Well, when the bathroom went silent, I just said “oh, I don’t know.” And hurried out of there. If I had reacted in ANY way, she was the type of child to keep repeating something. Absolutely hilarious! Anyway, great video!

I was a surprise baby (my Mom was in her 40's) and the saying in the family was my Father "poked in fun but Mom took him serious"' As a kid I never had any idea what it meant but I sure learned to parrot it at the most unfortunate times..cringe. We all have those moments. Thanks for all your organizing help/tips. Love your show and I hope there are a million more episodes. The transformations are so inspiring. But he is starting to see that things put away or decluttered makes for easier living, and I just helped him put together a workshop in the garage with all his tools on open shelves and pegboards... which was only possible because he let me clear out large piles of stuff we didn't need. I'm part ladybug, part butterfly. I like having baskets to stuff things I don't use frequently, but the things I use multiple times a day, I like to have out where I can see it. Also, I live in a very small apartment, so I can't decorate without it overwhelming the space. I have started to just look for pretty versions of the items I keep out, so they are the decorations themselves. I've adopted a cozy french cottage style because it lends it's self to multifunctional elegance.

I'm a bee 🐝 living with a house of butterflies 🦋! I don't always want to see EVERYTHING, but with my family, I'm seeing all the clutter, all the time. My micro bins end up stuffed with every kind of junk. If there is a clear surface or space, they fill it. My nickname for my husband is 'ferret'. I've resisted getting my trusty label maker out in an effort to not seem so nit picky, to try and reform myself into a more forgiving person, but if they need ques on certain things, maybe that's OK. Maybe we're all good people after all. Lol I'm glad you gave the guidance to be gracious toward the different styles. This will help me forgive (myself and them), so I can let go of the 'laziness' & 'failure' blame game, and move on toward success.

I’m just going to say this, I am a butterfly according to the bug organizing styles. For years I have had piles of mail all around the boarder of my bedroom (mostly in the bedroom). Now that we are in the tech age I have an email and it has ...get ready... literally as of to day over 10,000 pieces of email! 😱 And I am not a business or corporation... just an individual 😢! This 10,000 is because I literally one day sat down at my laptop and went through and deleted hundreds of junk emails! I live with my sister who is a the total opposite of what I am and I know I drive her to 😭. My kids say I am a hoarder and I say no I am a pack rat! Really...OMG! My bedroom is not a peaceful place at all! I have had moments where I just burst into tears because I really do not want it this way but I cannot seem to change it. I have been following clutterbug for sometime now and when I first saw you I fell in love with your personality and the way you so kindly talk about clutterbug styles. I ran out and bought lots of dollar tree storage bins and now ... guess what... I have clutter bins all around the boarder of my room, on my dresser, on my nightstand and I am feeling like now how did the bins now become clutter?? 😭 Please pray for me that I get help and figure out what to do now. Cass I watched you show on TV and loved it... I guess I should have been on there. Ok I will digress...P.S. I also am a major procrastinator... IMAGINE THAT! Ugh 😫

I wish I was wealthy and had a big house and could pay for people to help. Maybe I’m reincarnated from being someone like that. Then again, it is also very familiar to clean and organize for someone else! Anyone but myself!!! (So maybe I used to be someone’s chambermaid.) Anyway. Wish I could curate the museum of my life instead of shredding and throwing it all away. Pretty sure I have also gratefully accepted a lot of things from other people which sort of felt like considerate gifts at the time, but, come to think of it, may have really been the result of their decluttering process. Still, I feel obligated to make use of them. Or recycle them. Or something. What’s up with all that???!!

I just wanted to say THANK YOU! I haven't clicked on anything as of yet, but tears came to my eyes as you named all of these resources that could help me better understand my organizational style and you said they were free! I've done this clutter battle for what must be decades now. I've tried again and again to get it under control, but it always seems to go back to tornado bomb status. Add in a roommate with clutter issues too and I just gave up. She has moved into her own home now and I'm super happy for her. I mistakenly thought it would be easier to get my things organized now, but it hasn't. The overwhelm has continued. So, just hearing that most systems are cricket systems and don't work for everyone was soooo encouraging and even more so as I'm not sure, but I think I may indeed be a butterfly. Thanks for giving me hope that I can really do this as by getting to know more about me! What a concept! I am most grateful to you! God bless you immensely and intensely!!!
