If you listen to the lyrics. She is promising him stuff and never delivering on the goods. She promises she will be on time, but never shows up. He is asking why she builds up his excitement, then always lets him down.

Yeah....such a great tune about being let down. Siggghhh!
I think she’s leading him on then doesn’t follow through. He says why do you build me up just to let me down? This is a guys being strung along by a girl he’s in love with. She’s a tease! He’s not needy, he’s confused. She’s non committal. Classic song heard everywhere for years. Interesting reaction. I love you two, congrats on the little guy coming!❤

I toured with the Foundations in the 80s drumming. Clem Curtis was the only one left by then. He lived just down the road from me In Maida vale london. Sadly he died a couple of years ago. i remember playing this song on a cold snowy new years eve at a gig in Blackpool 1984. Happy days

If this is a true story that's so cool, it's cool to see *small world* comments like this 😁
Think about this: When that song became a hit and he said he'll wait by the phone...... Think about today when no one waits by the phone as we take it everywhere, Back then all phones were tied to a wall! So the anticipation was heart wrenching! Waiting! Plenty of time to think....... She loves me, she Loves me not, She loves me, she loves me not!
There’s Something About Mary
The Foundations were a British band ....... and made up of white, black and an Asian members ....... they were the first multi-racial band to have a number one hit in the UK with their first single 'Baby, Now That I've Found You' in 1967

Buttercup...Classic 60s
A classic!! I completely agree with Brad on the lyrics!
This is a British group doing a Tamla Mowtown sounding song in the early 1970's.
Wow..I remember as a kid getting "transistor radios" for Christmas, (yep I'm old) and the first songs we heard over them was Build me up Buttercup, Green Tambourine, the Beatles Hello/Goodbye, and Paperback Writer..

Something quite sweet about a girl swaying her head to The Foundations whilst wearing a Megadeth T shirt. 😀

pop music of the 60s and 70s was so full of happiness...

Ha Ha, remember this cute little tune from the sixties, still know it by heart. Thanks Brad and Lex, hope you and the baby are doing great!
The first 45 I ever bought at about the age of 7. Never gets old--still love it today and brings back great memories of my youth.
This song describes my single life and the painful part is that its a fun song to listen too.
When I hear this song since 1998 all I can think of are the end credits of "Something about Mary" (the funniest movie maybe of all time)
it's also been used in commercials the last few years.
LOL Brad is 100% correct! Funnnnnyyyyy! 🤣
Everybody loved this song. it will alwaays be loved by those that hear it. It's a mainstay
Hi Brad and Lex. I love this song and I have ever since the 'Something About Mary' film, although the song is a lot older, from 1968, 30 years earlier, which just happens to be the year I was born. I even learned the lyrics and practised before attending my manager's wedding reception because she wanted to hear me singing it. However, the band didn't know the music, so I sang Mustang Sally instead. I think Brad is correct about the meaning of the song, but I see where Lex is coming from. Love you Lex. You build me up and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Æx 🙏
"To you I'm a toy, but I could be the boy you adore..." - It's absolutely about a guy and his girlfriend. It's just very bouncy. It reminds me of a long hot summer in my childhood (if I remember rightly, on the Get Back documentary John Lennon or one of the other Beatles starts singing it at one point, just because it was on the radio a lot at the time. And it's catchy)
This is a rave from the distant past..... I was 16, my how time passes when you enjoy life....... lol😉👍👍 My how Lex's expressions bring a little joy to my life. thanks!!

This was one of the happy, upbeat pop songs that played on the radio all the time when I was a little girl in the '60s. And I'm pretty sure it's been used in more than one movie.
You got to check out the band called the Valentine's they redid the song and the backup singer of the Valentine's is Bon Scott of ACDC

Brad definitely has this one right. She's just leading this guy on.
The official team song of the Los Angeles Angels.
You can tell Lex is in full parenting mode. :) Brad has a great point about the lyrics--but the happy, upbeat mood of the music would definitely make it fun for a little girl to dance with her daddy to! Love it. Great song!
This is the happiest song when you’re having a crap day. 😊
Great similar tunes from the same era.. "My Baby Loves Lovin'" - White Plains "Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again" - The Fortunes "Hitchin' A Ride" - Vanity Fare "Indiana Wants Me" - R. Dean Taylor "Beach Baby" - The First Class ___ AM Radio Gold in the early 70's..
another peppy, energetic, upbeat 60s song about romantic disappointment and frustration :P :) their "here comes that rainy day feeling again" is also worth a reaction.
Brad & Lex, you'll love their "Baby Now That I've Found You" !!! Another big hit
I remember this as a song we used to dance to and then sing all the way home from the pub.
Sounds like opening music for a Saturday kids tv show. Also reminds me of the Partridge Family.
Yep, your daughter will love this song
What are the odds that the first guitar-playing daisy you ever see would be left-handed?
I agree with Brad on his interpretation of the lyrics.
Brings back memories of sunny days during summer break.
Love you guys, brad weighing the song up then led smiling and dancing. Love it
This band was the first multi-racial group to have a number one hit in the UK in the 1960s.
I loved this song as a kid back in the sixties... I could definitely see a dad playing this to his girl even though the lyrics are for adults...
THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY! Lex needs to see it, Brad!
..."Class of 76"...Still a great feel good song...
Remember as a kid the song used for Buttercup margarine on TV all the time

This is one of those songs that totally had another moment thanks to it being used in a movie, like "Wayne's World" and "Bohemian Rhapsody." "There's Something About Mary" gave this song to a new generation. I never heard this great song before, and now I hear it at every wedding I go to.
Brads totally dialed on this one. Go brother, you tell her!

classic !
A lot of folks characterize the 60's as Psychedelic Hippie Rock, but that really only started to take hold in the last third of the decade (there were lots of more experimental bands earlier on, but mainstream success came later, if at all). Most of the 60's was still fairly traditional Pop-Rock with relatively clean-cut, nice young men and women performing in a fairly traditional way. Lots of brilliant music as The Sound progressed toward a new paradigm, truly a Golden Age in Musical History. 👍✌❤

Brad, you are so perceptive you would make an excellent counselor.
This song was out in 1968. way before music videos. I had the 45. It is now on a lot of commercials for GEICO insurance and has been in movies. They had a few other hits too.
I heard this first on a Canadian radio station CKOG back in the 60's.
I think it's the Wisconsin Badgers fans sing this song at every home game.
The guys actually desperate. Brad 100 percent right. Hilarious.
I think it's just a fun song to dance to. I'm with Lex on this one. The music is great.
I would have never thought anyone would have ever reacted to this song. I'm not going to do all the math, but this was my favorite song in the sixth grade. Thanks
Every time I hear this song I think about that movie
Sounds like the Fortunes
Mac's Bar, East Lansing, MI -- circa 1980-84: Each Friday or Saturday night culminates in a Build Me Up, Buttercup singalong. Literally every voice in a dive bar lifted in song. Priceless memories.
So many memories!! ❤
first time i heard this song, it was stuck in my head for the next three days lol
Gotta definitely go with Brad here, Lex.
Definitely with Brad on this one
Another hit by The Foundations is "Baby Now That I Found You".
Since 1968 - this song has been in my head and never left. *_I'll be over at ten - you told me time and again - but you're late..._* I sing that for no particular reason just walking around the house. Now with your reaction - it'll happen more often.
Written by Mike D Abo of the Manfreds a great 60’s song.
You should react to Tom Macdonald's "Ghost". It's a love song to Nova...not even any rap. It's actually getting radio play!! 📻🤗 Btw, you're so beautiful, glowing, Lex!! Brad looks happier than ever!! That baby is gonna be blessed!! 👶🍼💕

If you need to cry, Johnny Cash's renditions of "My Life" and "The First Time Ever I saw Your Face" could be the ticket. His voice certainly helped me through a massively bad time in my life that included the passing of my older brother, with whom I'd only just reconciled with. We had more hours of wonderful conversation in the month before he left us than we did the 30 years or so prior. So glad I reached out to him.
