same bro, Midnight Club 2 is a masterpiece and has one of the best soundtracks in gaming imo - when BlueTag was talking about the soundtrack and said "I wouldn't say it'll stay with you for life" i literally yelled at my screen and said IT WILL STAY WITH YOU. Every song in this soundtrack is a banger and trust me it will make you feel things, racing music for the adrenaline rush and relaxing cruising music. Listening to Nokternal - Aurora on the Maria Highway race at the beginning is nostalgic af. I honestly view this game as a time capsule to the early 2000's

Three songs appear from Thomas Bangalter in Midnight Club 2, which if you don't know, he's the one half of the former duo Daft Punk. The songs in question are Outrun, Turbo and Extra Dry. There's also Felix Da Housecat, his remixed song appeared in NFS Undergound 2, so yeah, it had a couple decently known artists.

Just so you know, that tipping the car to 2 wheels thing taking way too long is because the higher your framerate is, the slower it takes as the game's physics were designed around 30fps. there's a bunch of other issues tied to having too high framerate too 2 wheel driving is arguably the most useful in mc2 because of the tight as hell streets in like paris for example lovely video though, i love this game series and the different atmosphere each game offers

Just to complement your comment about the issues around the physics tied to the framerate: whenever you are doing burnouts in the game, your car takes damage from it. If you are playing on a high fps PC, the damage would be greatly exaggerated to the point that your car would be on fire at the start of some races Also, the animations for the motorcycle rider are played way too fast to the point that you barely notice it

The first game on PS2 is pretty much a spiritual successor to Midtown Madness since it was developed by Angel Studios (Rockstar San Diego) and incorporated the same driving/physics model. From the second game onwards, the driving/physics were remade from the ground up and were a whole lot better. As much as I love MC3 and LA, I personally prefer MC2 mainly due to its atmosphere and soundtrack (Tokyo anyone?). Another thing to note about the first game is that you can get a Baja Buggy on the PS2 version if you have a Smuggler's Run gamesave.

Congratulations for hitting 20k subs from a fellow brazilian! I played a lot of Midnight Club 3 back in the PS2 days and it's one of my favorite games. Last year I decided to replay a lot of the racing games I used to play as a kid, so I also ended up playing some that I had never played and/or finished before as well. To be fair, I played the first minutes of Midnight Club 2 back in the day, but my pc wasn't powerful enough for the game, so I gave up on it. I have to say that playing the game last year was definetly challenging, perhaps one of the most difficult games that I ever got to 100%. I feel you about the frustation, I had to play a couple of races for several days until I finally managed to win, but in overall I would say that I had a lot of fun and it was definetly worth it.

i actually discovered something about MCII's two wheel drive problem. see the game was originally developed with PS2 in mind, so natively running the game at 30fps was R* San Diegos goal. the PC port wasn't thought out for higher framerates. so if you have a way to cap your framerate to 30 fps while playing on PC you should feel the difference in physics compared to 60+ fps.

Angel Studios developed Midtown Madness 2 and Midnight Club at the same time. In early betas of MM2, a cut Japan level for MCSR can be found in the files. As well, I later discovered that the freaking ragdoll code existed in MM2, albeit unused. We made it happen though! Let me blow your mind further: MC2 uses the same game engine, the Angel Game Engine (AGE); This little-known game engine is what RAGE was built upon, and powered a lot of fun racing games back in the day. That includes MC2 and MC3. Anyways, loved the video - keep up the great work!

I grew up playing MCLA Remix (psp version) around 2010 ish. Then when I read about the series around 5-6 years later, I looked into getting the older games. Played MC3 Remix, then MC2 and enjoyed both and still play. I don't think I can play MC1 however because of the physics. It's based off Midtown Madness, another great game but with the same wonky physics. If only they had the physics of the later games it would be superb. I have yet to play MCLA on Xbox/PS3 however. What I like about the series as a whole is that it makes you learn all the obstacles (which ones to avoid hitting like telephone poles in MC2) and traffic patterns of the city (dense traffic on the wide roads around the Eiffel tower in Paris). And from that you form your own route to win races.

Ah, it’s great to look at where the series originated before it went more mainstream. The first game was the first one I played and even though I didn’t like it the first time when I replayed it I enjoyed it much more. And the second game is basically the first game but better in every single aspect. By far one of the best street racing games without customization. I constantly flip flop between liking II or LA more because they both are great in their own ways. While the second game I wouldn’t consider forgotten, the first game is something no one talks about anymore because the later games are just better. Great vid dude.

Also Weight Transfer is essentially useless for the first 3 games. The controls are too tight when on two wheels. On MCLA however, they made them much looser. You can use the weight transfer to make tight turns and not lose speed. It's called Two Wheel racing, many videos of it on KZread.

Remember my brother buying a copy of MC2 for the PS2. It was remarkable in particular for the fact he rarely ever wasted his money on videogames, least of all PS2, but the racers like any Hard Truck, Midtown Madness, Sega Rally, Rollcage, NFS, Midnight Club 2, he’d have a soft spot for these type of games. And yes, I was “blown away” by the fact we had 3 cities to race. More than that, the many hidden alleys and path ways to make the lap more... optional, that was amazing. Even GTA3 or Vice City didn't have that level of detail. And the ability to make your own track layout and race it. It's true “going back” a series is like dressing down on features, that's why I consider myself blessed to have grown up from MSX/DOS era, through Win 95, 98, XP, and all the iterations of Playstation (except 5, because I am still content with how the 2, 3 and 4 are holding up today). Got to see the industry develop like the games themselves. Going back is simply nostalgia for me. But I can understand it may appear like a downgrade for people who didn't get to try the previous iterations. They may appear limited in what you can do, keep in mind the hardware they were designed on and for was quite limited too. Temper expectations but embrace the adventure into memory lane. Game engines have come a long way since the early days.

If you ever revisit MC2, be sure to cap the framerate to 30, thats what the physics were designed to operate at, everything will feel better, weight transfering is far more responsive, burnouts are no longer a waste of time, car acceleration is more responsive, ect... Unless if you plan to fishtail, then you'll want something over 100 fps

i was saying the same thing lol, when Bluetag said that phrase I yelled at my screen IT WILL STAY WITH YOU FOR LIFE. MC2 soundtrack is literally one of the best soundtracks in entirety of gaming not just racing games but the whole gaming industry. This soundtrack is what makes you connected to the game and make you feel emotions. The rushing adrenaline as the races intensify, the relaxing cruising music, the chill racing 2000's nightclub beats like Nokternal Aurora on the Maria Highway race. Like someone else said, Midnight Club 2 was not just a racing game but also a musical experience.

Shooting/Racer, six characters, Bunch of cars to upgrade with winnings, LOTS of tracks (Each world has an evolving track each race) excellent music, fun and vengeful as, and kinda hard the closer to the end you get. Give it a go!

In midnight club 2, it takes too long to do the 2 wheels thing because the engine is tied to your fps, the minimum is probably recommended on 30fps, and also everything in midnight club 2 is affected by fps, so turn that fps down baby!

it's a weird choice but MCII is probably my favorite PS2 racing game. Something about the aesthetic and format vibes with me more than 3 and LA and I've replayed it several times. The race you talked about, Burn, is crazy hard and I remember spending hours just copying the different enemy routes to find one I liked. However when I replayed more recently I found a route someone did on youtube that is objectively faster than the enemies' routes and makes the race kinda easy. but i would have never found that on my own lol

In MC2, 2 wheel flips your car slowly because of high framerate, at 30 fps which is what the game was intended to run at it will pop up much quicker. Same for burnout, it is framerate dependent, the higher the framerate the quicker it wears off, thus having less of an effect.

Interesting I was unaware of that, maybe next time I'll try my next MC2 play through with the PS2 version which should natively be capped at 30. I heard Ps2 handling is also different to PC version handling but the difference in framerate might be the reason why.

@@potatoking2597 Cap the PC version to 30fps, plug up a controller for that smooth steering and you pretty much have the same experience, handling values are the same across different platforms, it is indeed the framerate that changes the feel of it completely.

Midnight Club 2 and LA (plus LA Remix) are my favorite games in the series. Btw doing burnout, weight transfer and etc are actually useful ONLY on locked 30 FPS since the game was meant to be played on 30, its fine on 60 but the game was designed to be played on 30. I will link the video that explains the engine behavior of the game with different fps in my reply for this comment

And damn, those frustration didn't stop me from coming back, it became the motivation to make me try harder next time because I knew that I could do better. I've played this game for several times later, since knowing all the routes, it became much easier. No any other games ever since could drive me nuts like MC2. Really wished the community was bigger so we could have had a bunch of fun mods for this game
