I had never heard of it, and thought my friend was pulling my leg when she mentioned it. She and her husband both grew up eating it, and we were invited over to try it. It's absolutely a thing. Though, she's from Nebraska, we're from Michigan. Maybe I'm just not in the right group of states where it's most popular. 😉

This hurts me to no end. People can't respect other people's choices and respect food as an art where there are so many combinations of foods and ingredients. Not everyone will like it, but they shouldn't condemn others for it.

This combo is disgusting but then again I never cared for fried chicken and waffles either. I think America should just accept Europe,Latin,African, Asian,carribean cuisine and stop trying to make weird combos rather make combos that make sense. I can make you eat an apple with Sriracha sauce on it and like it if you try it long enough how about a fuckin Japanese wagyu steak with a blooming onion? Or German sausages with huevo Ranchero. There are too many chefs and countries for us to come this weak with our food game honestly

I am currently a public school lunch lady in Western Wyoming, and we serve homemade chili and cinnamon rolls once a month. The kids love it. 💕 So add Wyoming to your list, and we're technically not even a mid-west state. 😜

This is honestly the best thing I’ve ever seen in response to people being hateful. She just straight up went on a full road trip to prove people wrong for calling her a liar. I would feel so stupid if I were them lmaooo.

I've never heard of this, but it doesn't really sound that weird. Cinnamon rolls overall have a pretty neutral flavor aside from the cinnamon, and chili has so many spices in it that it wouldn't seem out of place. (Plus many curries have similar spices to both.) And as you mentioned, chili and cornbread (which is already a sweet bread) is a classic.

I didn’t know people hated on cinnamon rolls and chili so much. Whenever I read the comments on your cinnamon roll chili videos all I saw was people saying it was good or they wanted to try it. I’ve never tried it but it sounds ok. It might be good though

This legit looks like a movie. Two friends after being bashed for presenting something that they thought was genius, goes on a road trip to find the origin of the thing, learns so many more things, having fun. So cool.

I’m not sure why people found this hard to believe. I’m not even American and I can see that this would be something I would try.

This is like when people finally figured out Fried Chicken and Waffles. I’m not shocked that this was a combo.

Cinnamon rolls are basically a yeast based doug with sugar, butter and cinnamon added to it. Chili is a savoury stew with alot of umami flavour from the beef as well as richness from beans and/or spices. To anyone who has been eating and cooking for a while it wouldn't come as a huge suprise that this combo just works. It pretty much ticks all the boxes when it comes to flavour and texture (since stew/soup and bread is already a thing, it's not that strange) We don't do much chili cooking here in Sweden but cinnamonbuns are an absolute staple. Would love to try the combo!

As for PB cheeseburgers... well, peanut sauce is a common thing in many places (usually South East Asian cuisines) and while I don't really like it myself, there are tons of people who do. I'm literally german but even I've heard of the cinnamon roles and chilli combo. The fact people think you made this up is ridiculous.

I really like the “documentary movie vibes” from this video. The driving, the people testing the food, narrating the things you were doing, showing the places you go, interviewing other people. It just felt like a very nice edit.

My favorite childhood dish! When I lived on the East Coast, the hospital where I worked sold “Oklahoma Chili” which I informed them was impossible especially without the cinnamon roll.

I'm so sorry people gave you flack for this! That's not cool. Food is such a mixed experience based on location and culture. I definitely have to try this.

Oregonian here: this tradition is in my own family! My mom describes this combination being served at home when she was young, cooked by my grandmother. We may not be from the midwest, but the idea is not foreign to us at all!

It sounds like a type of food that would show up at a state fair, i would try it since it seems like it would be a hidden gem. Great video by the way! keep up the good work!

We should all remember not to “yuck someone else’s yum”

My school used to serve this every other Wednesday. They always had cinnamon rolls on Wednesday mornings for breakfast and used the leftovers for lunch. One week it'd be chili, the next it'd be "Italian Dunkers" which was breadsticks with meat sauce. Great video.

As someone born and raised in Ireland, the idea of chilli on an elementary school menu is mind-blowing 😂. Feeding spice to children? I can hear my mum yelling about upset stomachs already 😅. This combo sounds awesome though. Sweet and savoury is really good, and the texture of dough and stew is an absolute classic, it’s so soothing and homely. Cinnamon is perfect in savoury dishes as well as sweet. Combining the two just seems logical. Just, not for kids THINK OF THE KIDS 😂😂😂

Cinnamon roll and chili doesn’t sound like an insane combo like most ppl might think. Cinnamon is a common ingredient in some chilis. Even chocolate powder too. So a cinnamon roll makes sense. Now I really want to try this combo!

This combo made sense to me. My grandma used to add cinnamon to her chili and it was delicious. So something like a sweet cinnamon roll and then the savory chili seems bomb 💣

Grew up and currently live in one of the cities you visited and I can %100 confirm that getting it in restaurants isn't something I've commonly seen but I can remember every time we got chili at school we got cinnamon rolls on the same day though I don't hink they were covered with chili but seperate. Also can confirm most abandoned our forks and just scooped the chili with the cinnamon roll and would clean our plates. I always thought this was a just something everyone did as a kid like fries dipped into frosties/ice cream.

Why have I not heard of this combo before?! Salty and sweet is the best! Reminds me of when my grandma would make my brother and I Nutella and cheese sandwiches. Her reason "it's two things you like together!" It's soo good! 😍

When I first heard this combo, I thought it was odd... But then I remembered I'm from Cincinnati and our chili has chocolate and cinnamon in it! And then I understood 😂

When you consider the multitude of chili combos, I'm not surprised there is something like the cinnamon roll + chili. Keep doing your thing. I love your videos.

I do like sweet and savory/salty combos, but rarely with meats, so Idk if I would like it. But I know there's things like prosciutto-wrapped melon, cola chicken, etc. so theoretically this combo should work too for those who like that kind of thing

i pretty much like any sweet- savoury spicy combo. it just goes so well everytime! here in India we've a dessert called malpua which eaten with savory spicy chickpea gravy. It's so yummmm. Cinnamon rolls going along with spicy gravies is totally understandable. Bet it tastes just amazing.

I actually tried a combo similar to this a few weeks ago, it was amazing! My cinnamon roll was more croissant like and the topping was like a butter pecan spread with pecans on it. I even let my 19 month old son try it and he was hooked!

Some people were just simply not taught etiquette, courtesy and just being respectful when they disagree with something. It’s ok to disagree but u don’t have to be an asshole about it. Keep doing what you’re doing, killing the game. 🤙🔥

When I was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas back when I was active duty, I remembered going to a diner outside post called "Stacy's" a diner that I would regularly go to after my OSHA training before being discharged. I would order a cinnamon roll with chili on the side and a double cheeseburger with chili cheese fries. Most of the young people never really knew about the combination. But the older generation who I bumped into at the diner taught me about this combination and I fell in love with it ever since. Is it common? Maybe not anymore. But it was common enough to be recommended to me by both the waitress and diners I met over there. To this day, I still miss the combination and I think about Stacy's every time I reminisce the years of my service back in Kansas. I miss it and I think about going back every time, just to have that one cinnamon roll with chili on top. It was a great part of my time back in Kansas. I recommend people to try it to this day, even if people crap on me for recommending it. But what do you expect from people? I get crapped on for eating steak tartare, so there's no winning with some people hahaha.

Yes they do serve these at school, I remember this combo. I was shocked that anyone even remembers. Lisa, don't you worry about the negative comments, your doing a great job, and I like how your willing to try the crazy combos and also you bring back the forgotten foods. Those cafeteria lunches from their childhood were fondly remembered in adulthood and now chili and cinnamon rolls are a staple meal in homes all over the Midwest. And yes I've eaten it when I used to live in Joplin, Missouri.👊😋👍

Washington? I've never seen this in Washington. I mean, I wish, but it doesn't exist here so much in the PNW. My mom is from Colorado, though, I wonder if she's had it.

@@Congiary I'm a retired truck driver I've eaten this dish in Washington and parts of Colorado and Missouri all the way down in Louisiana. But I a lot of drunk drivers like myself who have eaten the style dish in truck stops.

This roughly reminds me of my favorite combination of the foods concha’s (Mexican pastry) with frijoles (beans) 😊😋. So if I ever go to the Midwest, and go to a diner that serves this combo, I’m definitely trying cinnamon rolls and chili.

I have never heard of conchas and frijoles. if you go to Midwest make sure it’s like Nebraska or Missouri because I’ve never heard of cinnamon rolls with chili in Wisconsin

Well I mean I’m not surprised, being Mexican American and living in a border town you’d know what they are but, i feel like Wisconsin is too far to know about conchas because I have a friend who’s from Michigan and knew nothing about Mexican food until she came to Arizona. But thanks for the tip I’ll keep that in mind!

@@mariatorres6066 Wow i feel dumb now but, you should try it tho, it’s so good! The sweet concha and then the salty refried beans just so yummy!😋 really good comfort food. Go to the store and get the concha and then go to the Mexican restaurant and just order some frijoles, and if they put queso fresco on it that’s fine it adds to the goodness ☺️

i'm from NY and i've heard of this combo before. kinda weird that people were telling you that you were lying about your own food experiences in KS. and considering i know plenty of people who put peanut butter in their chili, it's really not hard to imagine combining chili with another sweet thing, especially something with a bready texture.

I grew up in the heartland of the midwest and I've never heard of this combo. Cinnamon rolls make my stomach hurt when eaten alone so I dont have them too often. I understand the concept for sure. Sweet and savory. I'm a sucker for chili with tomatoes and I prefer savory over sweet. Interesting concept tho! Makes me realize there is way more food I havent tried. Why I like this channel❤

I agree with the school lunch ladies coming up with it. It is definitely a winter food in our house and our church has a yearly chili feed where we bring cinnamon rolls for dessert.

Honestly, whoever said it was bad is crazy. I would DEFINETLY try it at my school, but my school has something called cowboy bread, which is a brown sugar cinnamon bread.

It doesn't sound bad too me honestly, it's pretty much bread with chilli, but the bread is sweet, and I'm pretty sure the flavour of the chilli would overpower much of the sweetness
