Seriously. I have a box in my storage closet of spare parts with three working floppy drives, just in case I ever need to recover something from a floppy disc. Which at this point, is a rapidly diminishing prospect, but then, you never know. What I do not have is an 8 inch floppy drive, the kind that was in the Xerox PC that was my first working computer, when I started on first job, programming in CBASIC. On CP/M. Sort of amazing to look back over 35 years. Even thought retired, I still run my own web server, two dev servers, a test server, and there are computers and laptops all over the house. I have more storage and computing power in my household than a half dozen IBM mainframes from 35 years ago.

And one day Paweł said over a cigarette: "I will make a fucking floppy sound machine, because I CAN." Others told him, "Paweł, that makes no sense. Floppy drives are for storing Excel sheets, and whatnot." Paweł was adamant: "Fuck you, not only will it feature 64 drives, but I will gut two scanners, and sacrifice their remains in the name of Neumann, to get that sweet beep." And upon completion, Paweł saw that it was glorious.

A long time ago in a back office far far away... It is a period of change. Compact Discs, striking and shiny, have all but defeated the ancient but important Floppotron. During the format wars, designers from Sony managed to steal the plans for the computing universes ultimate weapon, the FLASH DRIVE, an armored storage device with enough storage capacity to copy a planet. Pursued by Microsoft's sinister agents and lawyers, Raspberry Pi races home with the flash drive in hand that can save her files and restore her computer....

say like... you know how cd players make a wiring sound? now make that spin faster and the sound gets higher. how do you make a cd player spin faster though? you have so speak cd player language and tell it to go "this" fast for "this many seconds" after "this many seconds" have passed since you turned it on. now use multiple cd players that have all been told (in computer language) how to play their part in a choir, and get them to work together. this man TOLD spinning motors how to COOPERATE to play music, instead of boing BZZZZZZ the whole time. like revving 50 different car engines in unison to make music.

For a computer nerd as myself, this is porn.
I dont think most people realize how multi talented this guy truly is . For him to bring this thing together ,and have it work properly , he has to be a musician ,a mechanically inclined guy ,and a technological genius. It's rare to find anyone who has all 3 . He pulls it off awesomely. I About ten years ago I set forth to build a small CNC milling machine . Using 3 industrial IBM printers ,as my axis calibrates and movement points . It turned out to be much more of a challenge than I ever imagined . 3 years later I finally completed it ,and another year to calibrate it . What I built is child's play beside of this . I would have never finished it ,had it had so many more facets of engineering to tackle .
@JordanDavid204

Right? Dude had to wire it all up, looks like all custom circuitry, then figure out what speed each device needs to spin for the desired note, then code the whole song for each different "Instrument"... This must have taken quite a bit of time, awesome haha.
Dude, I'm stoked
It must've taken a lot of programming to make this thing. How did he translate those notes into code that would force the drives to run with those specific sounds ans speeds? IT'S AMAZING!!! Also, this kind of hobby would be great to show off at a party.
Me: hi tech support my computer making fu by nosies. Support: what kind of nosies sir. Me: Star Wars music.

Someday an alien troop wanted to colonize this planet, and the watched this video, and then they glanced back at their stuff:classical 3.5 inch 1.44MB floppies for storage, 144p res as very high end, and they looked at us:classical 3.5 inch 1.44MB floppies and drives for weird machanical music, even 720p is a thing of a past, then they cried: OMG We found someone who are better than us!
