Solid timeline placement for Blue Beetle, and great job placing the 2023 releases now that they have clearer information. It's great to see new details that help with timeline placement that we missed during our theatrical viewing. I agree with the Snyder Cut being canon, to me it makes more thematic sense and helps with the Iris quote, and man, it's crazy that Man of Steel's placement was JUST NOW confirmed to the month... 10 years later, wild.

Yeah, the Man of Steel stuff was a real surprise. Not only was it cool to have Barry actually be there during the battle in Metropolis, but also to learn the specific placement in the timeline. Way cool!

I think The Flash was solid, but eventhough this vid makes the timeline look so easy. It was so incredibly confusing when I first saw the movie. Thank you.

WB actually made an interesting tactic with The Flash. They canonized the Snyder cut only to reboot the universe to completely lower the chances of the Snyderverse being restored all the way to zero. But they also kept the Whedon cut part of the canon as well because in that film Barry never time traveled and he is absolutely stunned he has that ability in The Flash which if only the Snyder cut was canon it wouldn’t make any sense for him and Batman to be shocked about this if Barry already did it in Justice League if that makes sense you know.

LOL! Yes, you summarized that well. The movie canonized the Snyder cut and then nuked it but also still had a few nods to the Whedon cut as well. The DCEU timeline is all over the place for sure!

I watched it in the theater for $5 and it wasn’t absolutely terrible in my opinion but it of course had the problems a lot of people agree upon, I did thoroughly enjoy Michael Keaton and the scene where he explained how the DCEU Multiverse Time travel works and I liked the change up if you can comprehend it which I thought was interesting

Yeah, that's a good summary...it was a very creative and clever movie, but it also had some issues. On the whole, I enjoyed it, but it could have been alot better for sure!

And to help you with the Sivana thing, he’s say he’s 57 in Shazam 2. If we look back at Shazam 1 at the beginning, Sivana says he was 9 years old during that Christmas Flashback that takes place in 1974. If we do the math then that means he was born in 1965. 2022 - 1965 is 57. Meaning that the first post credits scene in Shazam 1 takes place in 2020 (while everything before that is Dec 2018) while the post credits scene in number 2 takes place in 2022

Nicely done! Yeah, that makes perfect sense. I think that post-credit scene was likely around May of 2020, if it was 2 years before the post-credit scene in May, 2022. Thanks for that very cool match on Dr. Sivana!

Oh boy, this is gonna be a video. Didn't expect Shazam updates but yeah if he's 14 in December 2018, then by the time of Shazam 2 it's definitely in 2022, just from simple math. But in fairness as you said, there was things that made you think otherwise. Very cool on the month catch with the babies though. And then the Man of Steel dating, oof. Blue Beetle situation is still in an awkward place if you ask me but still great video.

Yeah, I worked as hard as I could to avoid any spoilers...I hope the timeline helps while you watch the DCEU. Even though it's being rebooted, I still think it's worth a chronological watch. There's lots to love about the movies (and show), even with a few rough spots along the way!

I actually hope that the entirety of the Blue Beetle movie is just canon to the DCU like that. It literally has nothing that connects strongly to any other movie of DC, is very much its own thing. I think the reason Gunn just says that he is the first DCU character is because when the movie started production there was literally no plans for the Gunn's new universe, so they can't explicitly say that the movie itself is DCU, but it can very much take place inside of it.

I'm with you...I'd be down for them making the entire Blue Beetle movie DCU canon. My guess is Gunn saw the movie and liked it alot, but wanted to give himself the freedom to go different directions with the characters as desired. But it would be amazing if after some reflection on things, Gunn decides the entire movie is canon. I thought it was a great movie and very worthy of his new DCU!

Although if blue beetle is coming into the DCU, then it would make sense to name drop characters like Batman and Superman, who has probably been already established by this point, but it doesn’t make sense if they reference the flash since the fact that well, it doesn’t seem likelihood that The Flash already exist in the universe by 2023 I kind of feel like The Flash will be the DCU X-Men or Fantastic Four for MCU where it will take forever for them to show up to clarify, Aquaman was originally supposed to come out last December also, I like how your MCU timeline literally goes over every possible live action, marvel, universe imaginable, outside of a couple, animated ones when the multiverses open in Loki

Recently watched Blue Beetle earlier and noticed Jamie grad cap having the year 2022 on the gold emblem. Probably since it was filmed last year but could also be taking place concurrently with Shazam 2 with the May 2022 timeframe.

Yeah, it deserved alot more success at the box office than it got. Granted some of the cgi was not the best, but the cast did great and the creative time travel story was alot of fun!

Ik why Zachary made tht mistake. Cus in the movie he himself says the line ",im basically 15" so Sivanna when asked how old he is. So that's probably why he said 15 in the tweet

A DC video on THIS channel? 😱😂. What alternate reality is this. 😂🤣Calle was fantastic. Gunn would be an idiot to not have her return. She won't, unfortunately. I hope she does. She would be a great opposite to Cornsweet. He's a happy go lucky, ah jeez, ah shucks, man. While she's a little more serious, more stoic, less happy. Kinda like Superman in 2013. Everyone I spoke to didn't really like the film, but loved Supergirl. So crossing my fingers she comes back. In all seriousness, and I am a few hours late to the video. Great video as usual. I finished the film recently and after watching it, the timeline is all over the place. Blue Beetle, I think, is outside of the DCEU. There is a wink and a nod to the Snyder cut. But the problem with the Snyder cut is that when you watch the Snyder cut, then Aquaman, it doesn't make any sense. Aquaman is a completely different character. One is very serious. One is the totally bro sufer dude. So I do think the Snyder cut is canon sort of. I think both films (the theatrical cut of JL) are. I think bits and pieces are. Superman has the blue suit at the end of Shazam. Superman has a blue suit in Black Adam. He seems more hopeful. Wonder Woman has brighter colors. Batman smiles more. The world seems more comic booky instead of the grounded world the Snyder cut established. So DC and Warners said fudge it, and let's make both canon. To me, this timeline doesn't matter because this universe is dead. But it's still fun to place it none the less. It also doesn't make any sense that Keaton's Batman doesn't know about Superman. It was always implied that those two iterations knew each other. There were plans to have Reeves and Keaton appear in a movie together, but that never happened in the 90s, especially after Reeves' accident. This makes me believe that this Keaton is not the same Keaton in 89. He's just a variant. That somewhat has the same history and same face but has a different story and conclusion. The movie was fine and fun at times. I just wish this version of Flashpoint wasn't his first feature film. Still had some fun moments, loved, loved the Ben affleck scenes when he talks about scars that felt very Batman, but also feels like something Ben Affleck would say, especially given his past. He learned from it and moved on and is a better man, he seems happier. I LOVE Barry's mom. As a Latino kid who has a mom exactly like that, it feels nice they did a good job with her. And Barry's dad recast was great. Felt very smooth and not weird or jarring at all. Heck, he should've been Barrys dad from the beginning. Kinda of looks like Ezra too more than Crudup. Sorry, looong comment. Great video, as always, my man.👍😁

Wow, great commentary. I think your analysis of the Snyder cut vs. Wheedon cut was great. Basically both are partially canon and neither is fully canon. Ugh. Kinda sums up the issues the DCEU has had ever since that point. Real bummer. As for the Flash, I agree with your thoughts...Barry's mom was great and his recast father worked as well. Only one more movie to go (Aquaman 2) and then we can focus on Gunn's new DCU. Fingers crossed he sees the light and brings in Supergirl!

The Snyder cut is 100% canon because Barry references the time travel scene, that never happened in the whedon cut

Great video I totally agree with your decisions on the timeline changes and I also totally agree with Blue Beetle being in the DCEU, that just lines up the best. I'm still hoping that James Gunn specifically doesnt mention anything that happens in the DCEU in the DCU because that will muddy the waters of canon quite a bit. While I did like some things in the DCEU, specifically I think Shazam is such an underrated great origin movie, I'm so so glad that this mess of a universe is coming to a close. I can't wait for Aquaman 2 and I hope its good so that the DCEU ends on a good note and we can see what the DCU will bring.

If you ignore the CGI, I actually liked the Flash movie. Seeing Supergirl and Batman again was cool, and most of the time travel story was done fine, except for the part where Barry affected events from the past without actually going back that far. that still makes no sense at all. Speaking of different time travel rules, the CW Arrowverse has different time travel rules to what was established in the Flash, and the Crisis crossover established the DCEU as one of the earths of the multiverse, so how could they have different time travel rules?

I agree, I thought it was a good movie overall. It had a few issues, but the cast was great and the story was very creative. As for the different time travel rules, that was very strange. I'm not sure why they did that, other than the TV Shows and the Movies are run by different producers, so perhaps they weren't talking. But I still wish we could have gotten a Grant Gustin cameo in The Flash. That was a bummer not to have that. Still, all in all, a good movie!

Well, I haven't actually seen The Flash, but after what you said here, I'll definitely check it out the next time I have some other reason to re-subscribe to Max. I mean, it did seem interesting, but I've overall been rather disappointed with DC movies over the last decade. They just seem obvious that they're trying too hard to compete with Marvel, and not doing a good job of it. I hadn't heard about the new DCU, though. Maybe that has more potential.

Yeah, I think your take on the DCEU is pretty on point. They kinda ran out of ideas and lacked creativity in the last several movies. That's why I do think the Flash is worth seeing...the story is very creative and unexpected. The third act and the CGI were...not great...but otherwise not a bad movie!

I hope with Gunn’s reboot we’ll be given a less messy timeline

Yes, that would be a very welcome change. The DCEU timeline was pretty wonky at times. Not that the MCU timeline doesn't have some issues, but I think the DCEU timeline suffered from so many starts, stops, re-starts, re-dos, etc. Gunn will likely have a much more thought out timeline for us!

Generally speaking, I don’t really care about seeing any DC movies for the rest of the year because of the incoming reboot. I would rather wait for that universe to begin and then go see it plus Superman. I’m just super excited for because of everything about it plus the fact that it’s going to already established green lanterns as an important part of the universe is so cool plus having Metamorpho of all characters to be in it it’s just crazy but it’s super cool alongside Hawkgirl to clarify, I’m intrigued about Joker primarily because well knowing it’s going to be the first comic book movie to be at the one musical and the fact the first movie wasn’t it’s just interesting and I want to know how they’re going to incorporate the musical number

It sure seemed in Man of Steel that it wasn't long after he gave his threatening message that the battle in Metropolis occurred. The wiki still has the movie happening in Nov/Dec, but it does have there being only one day between the message the the battle: dcextendeduniverse.fandom.com/wiki/2013. I tend to agree with the wiki on that.

​@@NobleRaider2747Yeah, it could be that Flash's messing with the timeline altered the timing of the original Man of Steel movie (thus moving it from December to October for the battle), but I'm not sure that the December date was correct in the first place. It found it really interesting that the Man of Steel movie had both the September and November dates on the camera. So perhaps we've always had Man of Steel incorrectly located in December when it was really October all along?

@AbitofEverything4U I always thought it was about 2 or 3 days afterwards that the battle happened, can't really see Lois getting captured, Clark surrendering, interrogation, the escape from the ship, the battle of Smallville, and then the Black Zero Event all happening in one day I swear it's dawn when the Black Zero touches down in Metropolis, and the terraforming went on for like 4-ish hours till Clark destroys the World Engine near Australia

I watched it in theaters and was very conflicted. I’m gonna try to give it a second chance though so I’m excited to rewatch it.

I wasn’t a massive fan of the flash the cgi wasn’t amazing and some of the cameos could be considered poor taste but i appreciate what this film did and as a huge fan of the character im happy he got his own film but it could be better but I have to admit your videos make me appreciate this film so much more

Great summary of the movie. I really feel the CGI and cameos hurt the movie. It was a bad way to end an otherwise good story. But I'm glad my breakdowns helped you enjoy it more. Yeah, I don’t really see Gunn canonizing blue beetle after bombed keep some of the actors and plot points, but just say the film didn’t happen similar to how he is keeping some of his characters around and saying that some of those plot points and rough versions of those stories that happened in the DCU just with some changes

The Blue Beetle's box office results weren't great, but I suspect Gunn will see that it wasn't so much the movie's fault and more just how things have been going in general for the DCEU.

I like parts of the flash but the thing that annoys me is that they didn't actually reset the universe like gunn said they would and left it open by showing Clooney

I agree...that was the most frustrating part. Not sure why Gunn said what he did, as it raised expectations for things to happen that weren't in the movie. So bizarre!

I would guess the higher ups just let the Snyder cut references happen because they didn't care, or didn't notice. I don't think they would admit the Snyder cut to be canon, though.

I always found the Shazam fury of the gods timeline placement confusing. But now it makes a lot more sense. I always thought that it had to be two Yeats because of the line at the end but it can be three years because that’s where he meets Mr Mime. It makes sense now. Also, are you thinking about doing timelines for any other franchises?

As for other franchises, I've been asked about things like Harry Potter, John Wick and Transformers, but I don't know those as well. That said, I might consider them down the road, but I'd just have to do a ton of research first. Any others you're thinking of?

Unfortunately its nearly impossible to place. It's likely in close proximity to peacemaker due to the newspaper article about Kahndaq. But, admittedly that isn't much to go off. Definitely open to suggestions on it!

I hope Gunn keeps Sasha Calle as Supergirl She was so good and so charismatic in The Flash. Would be a big disappointment if we lose her as Supergirl

I agree, Blue Beetle was really good and I think you nailed the reason Gunn will be using the character in his new DCU. It was separate enough from the overall DCEU that it could perfectly fit in his new vision for the future. I would recommend watching The Suicide Squad, by the way, as it is a standout movie. Gunn did a fantastic job with it!

Good clarification...Suicide Squad isn't good (that's the one with Leto) but THE Suicide Squad is great. It's the second one. Gunn did a fantastic job with the movie!

Isn't Ezra's Crisis crossover a different version of the character apart from the DCEU? I think it was another universe with a similar flash but it was crossing over with the Arrowverse because of what Dark Flash did in the Flash movie. I can't tell anything for sure, haven't kept pace with the shows in years, I only watched that scene on KZread 😂

That's such a great question. I guess they've never really confirmed it one way or another, but I've always assumed it's the same Flash. That said, I can't believe they didn't pay that Arrowverse cameo off with Grant Gustin appearing in the Flash movie. Total bummer!

Good question...I feel the MCU is trying harder, although the impact of the pandemic on the release schedule made it very difficult. Meanwhile the DCEU suffered from so many stops, starts, re-sets, etc, that it's impressive the timeline is as intact as it is. I think the real test will come for Marvel with the release of the timeline book. If that manages to clear up some of the open questions regarding the timeline, then I'll give the win to the MCU timeline

Will you show the DCU on the same timeline as the DCEU?

Good question...if there is a through-line between them, then it might make sense. Right now I can't tell if there will be any connecting line between the DCEU and DCU. Gunn had said the Flash would reset things, but the Clooney end credit was very confusing. So I'll wait and see if things get more clear down the road. That said, if you have a suggestion on it, I'm always open to ideas.

I agree with this timeline, also during the DCU Chapter One Gods and Monsters announcement back in January, James Gunn said, "Now Peter and I have gotten pretty lucky in terms of the four projects that are coming out over the next year. First we have Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Shazam has always been of in kind of his own part of the DCU, sot that connects very well. That moves directly into The Flash, a fantastic movie that I really love, that resets the entire DC Universe. And then move into Blue Beetle, a fantastic film about a kid who is a marvelous part of the DCU. And then into Aquaman 2, which leads directly into our next few projects, which I'm going to tell you about now" so that means Blue Beetle & Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are prequels to Superman Legacy and sequels to The Flash & Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

I think he just said that to prevent any people from being disinterested to watch the residual slate of movies because as a company they still need to recoup profits for these movies and Gunn flat out saying they won’t matter once Legacy comes out would completely obliterate any chance of them making money at that point. Didn’t matter though since they unfortunately flopped unfortunately. Excluding Lost Kingdom which hasn’t come out along with Blue Beetle which in some form is canon to the DCU or at the very least Xolo’s Jaime is a cannon character to the DCU (which has been confirmed)

I honestly don't know what to think about stuff Gunn says anymore. It's really seeming unlikely Aquaman will come over to the DCU, but I guess anything's possible. But regardless, everything you quoted is definitely what Gunn said. I just wonder if after this year has been so tough on the DCEU if he is rethinking any of his plans. I hope we at least get Blue Beetle going forward, as that movie was great!

Oh how I wish Max had a DCEU timeline like the MCU and Star Wars on D+. That would really help. No, unfortunately I had to put this together from just watching the movies and shows. I wonder if they will release a timeline after Aquaman 2 just to make it all official? That would be very cool!

they were able to have 2 ezra millers but no grant gustins, definitely could have been better :/

I think what Gunn was alluding to is that the events in the movie will inspire the direction he takes the Blue Beetle, but they are not considered DCU canon. I suspect he will take the same approach with The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, as some scenes in those movies can't happen in the DCU, but most of them can. Personally, I think Blue Beetle is a perfect fit for the DCU, so I'd love it if Gunn just says the whole movie is DCU canon, tbh.

I don't Agree with the snyder cut being the main JL movie in the timeline . The movie it self doesn't acknowledge WW flying which she can now do example in the flash also Mera have weird British accent and her father is dead which retcons Aquaman and as a second best movies in DCEU i don't like removing it from the timeline . Also the time traveling powers are portrait complete different . Another thing for Jostis League is that Flash not saving anyone and his character arc being save one person is consistent with the backstory of Flash not being able to save that child in kryptonian inversion

Yeah, you make a good point. At first, the DCEU went out of it's way to refer to the Wheedon cut rather than the Snyder cut. Aquaman is a great example of that. But it seems as the DCEU is closing out, they wanted to give some nods to the Snyder cut instead. Very strange indeed. I guess DC fans can choose which of the two cuts to watch based on which one they enjoy more. I suspect the debate will never end, tbh. Anyway, thanks so much for watching the vid and sharing your thoughts. Really appreciate it!

Sigh...ikr? It's mostly due to all the starts, stops, re-dos, extra "cuts" (lookin' at you JLA), firings, re-hirings, and so on. Honestly, it's amazing it looks as good as it does!

I actually think this may be my new guilty pleasure movie. I loved and kinda hated it.

Interesting....Maybe the Flash's box office would have benefitted from using PromoSM?

It’s sad that the Flash, Shazam 2 and BB have all flopped because I really liked Shazam 2 and The Flash (I haven’t watched BB yet but I plan to once it comes out on Max but a lot of people love it too). I personally don’t think that Gunn is going to bring back anyone from the Shazamily unfortunately, given the major criticism that Levi got while playing Shazam combined with the movie failing and being fairly connected to the DCEU. They’re most definitely recasting Ezra because of their controversies and people generally not liking their Barry (even though I think they were great as Barry in the Flash movie). We already know that BB is coming to the DCU and I personally don’t think Aquaman will be transferred into the DCU solely because Mamoa’s Aquaman is too associated with the DCEU which could hinder the DCU as it could cause major confusion and sourness even if they explain why he’s been transferred over. It’s just better to start fresh for the most part, especially with major characters.

Yup...I think you nailed it. I suspect none of the characters will be coming over to the new DCU other than some of the Blue Beetle cast and some of the Peacemaker cast. Probably for the best. as it lets Gunn build the new universe as he desires. Really looking forward to what he has in store for us!

@@AbitofEverything4U Yeah it’s definitely for the best. They need to start fresh for this to all work. I could see them doing a good job or retconning Peacemaker into the DCU by reshooting the JL Cameo and adding into a S flashback scene where Corenswet is present instead of Ezra and Jason. It probably won’t be the JL in that scenario, could be Hawkgirl, Mr Terrific and Guy Gardner there talking up the rest of the JL’s place for the DCU’s hypothetical version of the scene. And I’m definitely excited too!

Guy Gardner is gonna be amazing...Gunn is bringing in some very cool characters to the DCU!

Also I’m actually unsure if the Black Zero Event in MOS is set in September 2013 because BVS messed up. Hold on now. We learn that the gap from the Black Zero Event to the moment Kryptonite is discovered in the ocean is 18 months. Then we see the rest of the movie takes place 3 months later from that point. Now here’s where it’s get all mucked up. If you look at the flyer that Lex sent to Bruce as invite to his party, the date for that is November 1st and then when we see Wonder Woman open the files about the metahumans we see on the date on the laptop that it’s still November. So if we do the math then that means if BVS is set in November 2015 primarily and that the Black Zero Event was 21 months before that (18 months between that and the Kryptonite discovery along with 3 months between that and Lex’s party) then that means the Black Zero event takes place in Feb 2014😭. Which makes no sense since they always say it’s 2013 but with those clues that doesn’t add up. Maybe most of MOS excluding the Zod Attack was in 2013. The Feb 2014 date could work still given that Clark’s birthday is later in the year, so he wouldn’t have been lying when he said he was 33 years old. Just a thought lol but nonetheless great timeline vid!

Yeah, the 21 months time gap makes it all very confusing. I mean, it didn't work very well to start with (i.e. putting the end of Man of Steel in Feb, 2014) and then The Flash made it work even less, by moving the end of MoS to Oct, 2014. So I am wondering if they are just retconning the 21 months to be longer. I really like how The Flash attempted to tie it all together and it even matches the September date on Lois' phone in MoS. So in my mind, The Flash just retconned things to add a few more months between MoS and BvS. Bummer that we'll likely never have an official answer. Sigh.
