I am loving life here in the Philippines, at least as part of a trifecta. We have a small place in Makati while we wait for the completion of our new place in the BGC neighborhood. You definitely want to build some local connections who can help with the red tape (biggest downside here). And definitely get a driver, so you can be productive in traffic, don't waste time looking for parking, etc. The people here are just amazing! I've been to 91 countries now, and I'm setting up a trifecta lifestyle plan. But this is the place closest to my heart.

You're in the right place then. I live in Makati's Salcedo Village - downsides are that certain establishments are closed on weekends even though there are numerous residential condominiums in the area & that Makati is practically closed during the long Easter weekend, opening up only on Easter Sunday.

Tip from a local Chinese Malaysian - we have the best Chinese food in the world (and cheap too), both the traditional stuff and the local, go for street food and look where the Chinese crowd go, don't pick a packed joint as the staff tend to get cocky and rude, pick a moderately busy place.

Literally in KL right now lol Only been here a few days but the fact that I could get a visa on arrival for 90 days is pretty impressive. The cost of living is veryyyy cheap compared to BKK and the key point for me is that you get far more space too. It's not as exciting as BKK and is probably more family friendly but so far it's alright. I think I'm going to get the education visa for Thailand when I go back so I can stay longer. Also, they're apparently extending the visa on arrival so that's good news for those thinking about BKK, but they're also including a foreigner tax but it's only like 300 baht.

He says Japan in the next few days will have another 7 soon....forgot now where exactly. He does his best to be as accurate as 200km radius accuracy. He also isn't a geologist and cos of that, the US Govt really dislike him lol Personally I would stay way clear of any country that is on a major fault line, or the Ring of Fire.....this includes Indonesia, the Philippines, etc. From the documentaries I have watched the Philippines seems way too dangerous to be in, with the gangs and drugs, which altho the govt is saying they are trying to get rid of, is actually increasing. No thanks.

Yes. Manila's airports - especially the Ninoy Aquino International Airport - are overly congested. But there are two new international airports now in the making. These are the Sangley International Airport and the New Manila International Airport. Both should ease up space at the NAIA once they're finally completed. There is another option, however, for travelers/potential investors, and that is the Clark International Airport. Though it would take 1.5 - 2 hours via car to get from Clark to Manila, a high - speed railway connecting the two is also in progress.

Well SG can at times be concerned with housing since it's a small city state. So when you apply for PR and tell them you're going to live on your yacht rather than using valuable housing space that can accelerate things quite a bit. Plus it also gives you the option to spend time in BKK, Penang, Langkawi, Ho Chi Minh City, etc. while taking your home with you. It also makes offshore closings a lot easier as you can just leave the port, log your position and sign contracts in international waters (thus the law of your flag state applies).

9:50 Vietnam has very strange, borderline unprofessional behavior in the airport. I was taken to a security area for a bag search and they were behaving like I was smuggling something. I was shocked thinking someone must have slipped something into my bag. I sat in their security area for hours and almost missed my flight. Finally a local travel agent came by and I asked him to help me understand what was happening. He talked to someone and they took me to a bag search area where they revealed that I was put thru hell for HAVING MORE THAN 2 LIGHTERS IN MY BAG. NO KIDDING. I sat in a security area for hours like a drug smuggler bc I had MORE THAN THE APPROVED NUMBER OF LIGHTERS. I pulled all of the lights out and gave them to the security people and said A gift. They kindof laughed like it was no big deal. Apparently they don't understand that detaining someone at a border crossing and taking them to a security area for LIGHTERS isn't normal behavior. I honestly thought someone slipped something into my bag while I wasn't looking and I was about to spend 10-20 in a Vietnamese prison. So yeah, Vietnam is off my list permanently.

I knew they were hoping she'd get away and create excitement, but she's not that kinda cat. She'd just come over for pets if she got away. I totally disagree with Malaysia as a number 1. I've been living here for 8 years and I can tell you it's a nightmare for business owners. Let me explain: the government system just doesn't function in any meaningful way. Doing even the most minor thing related to any government department will take forever and is usually resolved with under the table cash. Business ownership must be 50% Malay (bumi putra), so legally, you can't have full ownership. Immigration is a joke, and don't follow their own rules. The mm2h rules now are ridiculous (800k into a bank you can't touch +4k monthly regular income) if you have those type of funds just move to Dubai. Happy to answer any questions if anyone has any.

These two towns are full of refugees, sea gypsies and foreigners(legit or illegals). I watched their behaviour on a daily basis. When some nationalities cycle to work for example, they will bring their domestic waste and dump it at the roadsides. Yes their homes have dustbins. Yes the garbage truck will visit them. But they do that. As for the stateless sea gypsies, they just throw whatever in their hands onto the street. All of them do that because it is not their country anyway. Refugees, is another level. Some bring goats into their homes. Other have cows which they put downstairs , they live upstairs at shop house.

I’m personally not a fan of “multi cultural “ cities. I enjoyed my time in KL, but that’s one thing I didn’t like as much as other places where you have one culture. KL had a USA vibe with so many different people. I’m trying to get away from that. As we can all see from what’s happened to the USA…. Everyone is fighting with everyone and nobody gets along. You can’t even have a conversation without offending someone nowadays. I prefer one culture and one set of rules to follow in a country. In Indonesia I knew where I stood. Bali is different and I never visited Banda Aceh where religious beliefs are much more extreme. I do plan to go in the future though. This is just my personal opinion of course.

Malaysian who has lived and worked in the US before. Our racial dynamics should not be compared with that of the US. It's very different. Sure we live in a multicultural society just like the US but I guarantee you won't run into the same issues as the ones in the US. I get that it's difficult to not offend anyone in the US right now but it's to a much lesser extent in Malaysia.
