Today, I want to cover the first sign of magnesium deficiency. Many people don’t get enough magnesium from their diet, not to mention other factors that deplete magnesium.
Magnesium is a cofactor involved in 350 enzymes. A cofactor is something that is required by an enzyme to work.
Symptoms of magnesium deficiency:
• Cramping
• Twitching
• Arrhythmia
• Osteoporosis
• Osteomalacia
• Insulin resistance
• Insomnia
• High cortisol
• Depression
However, the number one symptom of magnesium deficiency is fatigue.
The top cause of low magnesium is not consuming enough magnesium in the diet. Foods rich in magnesium are vegetables and leafy greens.
Consuming large salads is a great way to get the magnesium you need. But you can also take a magnesium supplement. If you do take a supplement, consider magnesium glycinate.
Other causes of magnesium deficiency:
1. Refined foods
2. Fructose
3. Alcohol
4. Certain medications

Great video! I was definitely mag deficient ( insomnia, IR, cramping, and all the hair had fallen off my legs) but fatigue was not an issue. I was always jacked up on cortisol due to chronic stress. Months of salads made me worse with severe bloating. I wasn’t digesting due to lack of HCL. And I wasn’t absorbing the magnesium and other supplements. I cut out salads and did a daily blended cabbage juice instead of salads. I started a daily morning routine of soaking my feet in epsom salt for 30 minutes with deep breathing and increased my HCl and supplements with meals. Also, IF and low carb. The keto was depleting me. No cell phone or blue light after dinner. I walk my dog after dinner and started playing guitar again and reading before bed. The hair grew back on my legs, I no longer have cramps, and insomnia is gone. It’s an ongoing process but you have to continually find what works for you. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. Peace love and blessings.

Apple cider vinegar can increase your stomach acid and help with absorption and actually help stop acid reflux. Your stomach sphincter only closes if there is enough acid. Docs will give you an antacid when most people need more acid not less. More evidence docs don’t know half the things they think they do. Yet are too puffed up to change. Why Dr. Berg is 1000% better than a traditional doc.

Dr. Berg. The following comment's are not related to this video but I had to share some personal information with you and how your video's have helped me so much. January 2023 I had my first A1C test and was told at 6.4 I was pre-diabetic. A month later I was at my Dr's office and he did another test and I was even higher at 6.6. I really didn't know what to do till my brother suggested I check out your videos. The first one I saw was "What would happen if you gave up sugar for two weeks". That video changed my life. The fact that the medical industry doesn't share this info is criminal. When you stated that if to much sugar is the problem, then why don't you stop eating sugar, it just sounded right to me. And that's exactly what I did. I weighed 270#'s at 6'1" tall. I had a follow up in three months and I was down to 250#'s and the A1C had dropped to 5.7. Still the low end of pre-diabetes but moving in the right direction. Today I had a follow up and my A1C was 4.8!!! and my weight was 207! I now read food labels but not once have concerned myself with calories, and have never gone to bed hungry! Thank you so much!!! I look forward to many years of watching your videos!

She said that if someone was eating breakfast cereal in the morning and that it was "fortified", as many overly processed, cold cereals indicate on the outside of the box, that they'd be fine. I about lost it. I don't know how anyone can think that they can get the necessary vitamins and minerals they need from a "fortified", sugar laden, overly processed, cold breakfast cereal. I'm so glad you mentioned the mitochondrial need for magnesium to produce ATP. However, I've found many patients I work with consume copious amounts of magnesium, and they still have magnesium deficiency. RBC Magnesium is the best measure for magnesium status and should be as close to 6.5 mg/dL. But taking more magnesium and expecting it to replete your deficiency is like filling a cup of water with a hole in it, and expecting that cup to keep the water in it. That means, if you don't address the mitochondrial "stressors" you will always be playing catch up with the magnesium dosing.

Omg im so happy he mentioned the glycinate form specifically! It makes me appreciate my doctor so much more!! I went in to see her during my first trimester, struggling with pregnancy depression and trying to figure out how to manage it without meds. As with many docs, she first told me about my options as far as prescriptions go since SSRIs are considered safe during pregnancy. Well, I didn't want them, and I told her I would only consider them as a last resort and was hoping to find a more natural solution. She was super happy about this and then recommended magnesium glycinate, specified it had to be glycinate, and I started taking them that day! Let me tell you something here, I've dealt with depression throughout a lot of my life and it's gotta be pretty bad for me to talk to a doctor about it tbh. Taking the extra magnesium has taken the edge off and allowed me to really enjoy my pregnancy, get along better with my bf, and has eased some of the other preggo symptoms like leg cramps and not being able to sleep well at night!!! I consider it my miracle supplement lmao

I was not sleeping well. I tried everything including what my doctor said about helping to lower my cortisol levels and resetting my circadian rhythm but I would be up until 3am and I would not want to get up until 10 or 11am. I felt awful... I tried Zolpidem, I tried melatonin, hell I even tried THC gummies for sleep. Nothing seemed to really help. I ended up getting magnesium chloride bath salts that I soak in the bathtub before bed and Magnesium glycinate gummies. What a game changer. I have never felt better... I was definitely magnesium deficient. Now my stress levels are normal and I'm sleeping so well. I fall asleep within a few minutes now and sleep all night. Listen to him... magnesium is so important!

When I ate family meals. We always had a balanced meal and I still had leg cramps as a child. After being on my own the leg cramps disappeared for years. Then as an elder the cramps reappeared and when getting blood work done it was found that I was always low blood potassium. My doctor would have me taking potassium supplements. I was still having problems with leg and hand cramps while working. Saw a shot video about cramps and taking magnesium. It worked for me and my blood potassium would be normal when the doctor would do future blood work. February 14th this year I ended up in the emergency room after getting a bacterial infection that keep me in the bathroom for three days before going to the hospital. Could not eat and horrible things were leaving my body on both ends. The emergency room does blood work and I'm dangerously low on potassium. I ended up on a potassium IV drip for days before I suggested that I needed magnesium. The doctor gave me the magnesium and the potassium in the blood was normal. I was released from Paradise Valley Hospital with a pill bottle with an antibiotic for the bacterial infection that caused my illness. After a few days on my own I couldn't get warm no matter how warmly I was dressed. Not feeling well again I went to an urgent care and was sent to a different hospital were blood clots were found in my lung and legs that were not discovered by the other hospital even though I had been checoked for those types of problems. This hospital checked my blood and I was having the low potassium and I ended up on another potassium IV drip. Had to again ask for magnesium again. What is with these doctors who prescribe magnesium oxide which is the hardest form of magnesium to be absorbed by the body? Again I had to ask for magnesium to stabilize the blood potassium in order to get out of the hospital. Hated all of the needles they bombard you with every hour is unreal. I've never been in a hospital for an illness since I graduated secondary career training when I eat something that put me in the hospital when the doctors thought I had appendicitis but needed my parents permission to operate. By the time they got to the hospital I was feeling better and I was released to my parents. Don't remember if any medication was required...

Magnesium Bisglycinate is one of the most effective bioavailable Magnesium Forms👍‍.➡It's attached to 2 glycine molecules. Attracts less water & has much higher absorption. Glycine also helps reduce pH in small intestine, supporting absorption & preventing Magnesium deficiency. Beneficial for improving Magnesium status, generally well-tolerated & unlikely to cause diarrhea. Involved in energy metabolism, muscle contraction, DNA synthesis, blood glucose regulation & reproduction🙂. 🚨⚠Avoid these versions of magnesium: Magnesium sulfate,Magnesium carbonate,Magnesium oxide and Magnesium hydroxide.

A good video would be "how to get enough magnesium from food while avoiding excessive oxalates." I know anyone who's ever had a kidney stone would be interested. Just a talk on these lectins and oxalates (anti nutrients) and a pro/con of eating them would be interesting. I'd also like to know more about why mushrooms need to be cooked to destroy some toxin. This is common knowledge, but when Paul Stamets was on the JRE podcast and this subject came up, he acted like he'd be tortured if he talked about it..which was strange. Many he was just being purposefully cryptic and a bit facetious. Idk. ✌❤🔥👁

Yes, oxalates and lectins, yikes! Plants are indeed trying to kill you, it's their defense mechanism that nature provides. In so doing, it's nature's way of telling us humans to find other food, not plant food. I went carnivore and all ailments disappeared within 3 months. 👍

@@woodenfencessame, I also had kidney stones due to oxalates but I had no idea that was the reason. When I started my keto diet I ate tons of vegetables especially spinach and pretty quickly started getting pain in my joints and flair ups from old injuries like my knee. When I went full carnivore and cut all the greens all symptoms disappeared. I now have occasional flair ups when I’m dumping oxalates and my electrolytes go bananas.

To answer your question on Stamets, this is what someone said. "Mushrooms, even common button mushrooms, contain traces of carcinogenic compounds in raw form. The same toxin, hydrazine, is also found in portobello mushrooms, and shiitake mushrooms contain a naturally occurring formaldehyde. Both chemicals are heat-sensitive and abolished upon exposure to heat."

Thank you, I needed this knowledge! I do Not Eat enough Salads, last week I started doing this and I do notice better everything in my body. My energy is better, I do drink red wine. I had eye issues, tiredness, and low energy. Now I am eating Salad for Breakfast! Last night I had a Salad with Baked Wild Salmon on top of it, tomato, red onion; EVOO, herbs, Lemon, Balsamic Vinegar, ACV, and Orange Bell Pepper. Really Good Advice to remember Daily!

Thank you for the video, Dr.Berg. What people on the Carnivore diet do about magnesium? Can you get enough of it from meat? Is there a way for your body (including gut bacteria) to create it or convert something else to get it? Same question goes about Potassium.

I am on a meat based diet due to too many food allergies (corn allergy) + EDS (you cannot handle fiber when you have EDS as it only constipates you) so I supplement to get both magnesium + potassium. The potassium one I found and I am trying is by Livingood daily. Very very hard to find stuff free of corn! 😡 corn in stiff now gives me breathing issues.
