The First Run in CA Since 1975 Darrell Vittone's The Race Shop A/MC 1967 Bug
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The first run dragstrip in Calfornia since 1975.
Darrell Vittone's The Race Shop A/MC 1967 Drag Bug, which was restored by Dean Kirsten, made the first pass at Irwindale Dragstrip.
In this shakedown (test session) at Irwindale. We were able to make only one pass due to the transmission problem. But certainly, more passes to follow before shipping to Belgium to participate European Bug-in. Dave Andrews, Mark, and Paul Schley were there, along with Ron Fleming and Scott Pescuma made this an incredible day. Enjoy the footage of preparation and the sound of music.

Lettering by Richard Mc PEAK.....WE have lunch EVERY Wednesday we can. Used to work there in the late 80s. Want to spend as much time together before he cant anymore. A few friends his son Greg and I committed to meeting up on Wednesdays. Back in the day Greg and I ran the spray portion of the shop Richard did all the pinstriping and lettering. We did some of the diesel truck trailer lettering. was great fun.

Looks to me that the color inside the engine compartment, decklid and frunk might have been the original color of the car and then the exterior was repainted in the ivory color. Combination looks amazing.

That’s how the car was when it was originally turned to race car by Darrel Vittone, so they recreated it.
mid 1980's i had switched from racing a bug to a SCCA rabbit and bought lots of parts from darrell and talked with him on the phone many times.
That Ron! He's a cool dude!
Der Kliner Panzers brings back memories, big Carl's on the Anaheim/Fullerton border. 1967
Definitivamente un Volky histórico!
Beautiful job well done everyone amazing! 🤙🤙🤙
Great Video,..but you really need to see this car in person to really appreciate it. I was lucky to hang with Dean at the GNRS for a bit to talk about his experience putting this Famous car back together.
So cool! Respectful revival with so much dedication.
Dig that tan HotVWs hat. Went to the website and bought one. Thanks!

The car is so nice! Great job! 👍🏻👍🏻
That's just awesome right on Dean Kirsten!
Wish I could have been there. Historic.
Very cool build Dean
Nice Video nice 67 I'm restoring one
Parabéns pelo carro 👍😍
This car is so beautifully done! I wonder how long can you safely run the motor without cooling fans.
Yeah! Very cool fast VeeDub history. Reminds me of my first car, a '67 that was the same color, same stance, same t-bars. Except mine wasn't fast. Haha
19:40 Yeah show some love for electric cars! I would love to drive something like that!
🤩✌
9:18 yup that’s it ha.

Certainly nothing against Russell Ritchie or anyone else overseas, but I pray there are no plans to sell this car to someone out of country. I hate that so many of the cool old school Vee-dubs have left the US!

The problem with trying to run a period-correct drag car is safety. If we update this car to meet today’s drag strip requirements, we have to change so much of the car’s original design. Most drag strips in the States would not allow older gassers to run without some level of updates.
Hey , how can I get a older issue of Hot VW magazine ? It would be around a 2000 - 2002 issue. Is there old issues available anywhere ? Thanks.

It would be a specific year and month. I had done some work on a car that made it in the issue.

Doesn't Acetone dissolve epoxy? Might be able to get to those wires.
What are the cam specs, or is it a secret? That engine sounds heavenly!!!!

Ok cool. I have the 4/22 issue. I'll have a look. The engine sound radical with that cam. I have a 2332cc build I have the short block assembled for, and which I am using an FK46 cam with 1.4 rockers, ported Super Pro heads with 45 x 37.5 valves and match ported Spanish 48 IDAs, and 1 3/4 inch merged header and stinger, set up for 10.8:1 compression. Its taking forever to finish up. I'm stoked to hear the Darrell Vitone '67 make its sweet music. Hoping mine will sound nearly as good. Later!

Jets/mixture adjustment.
Did they use a good forged crank. Back in 75 those welded stroke cranks would snap when the tires stuck in 2cnd. I will make it clear about this Not On the Weld .

@@deankirsten3959 Stock cranks were forged but it was a cheap low sulphur 1054 forge . just like sb chevy used. 4340 have about 3 times the snap strength as a stock . good choice!
How did you cool the engine...?
