Darrell Vittone's The Race Shop A/MC 1967 Bug Second Run at Barona Drags

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Darrell Vittone's The Race Shop A/MC 1967 Drag Bug, which was restored by Dean Kirsten, made the second pass at Barona Drags in lakeside, CA.
Here is Dean Kirsten's comment.
Here’s a taste of what happened After we raced at Barona on Friday afternoon. Yes, we killed some parts. But we also made a straight full pass up to 85mph. Ron Fleming checked the engine to 7500+. The car lifted the front tires slightly, but now we know we are on the right track. Doug and Dee Berg joined the team, as did Mike Robak. Major changes to how we stabilize the nose of the engine case, in a serious attempt to control our tire hop problem. Doug Berg takes over that portion of the project. Of course, no thrash at the beloved Schley Museum is complete without Mark and Paul running over to Chapman Street’s In-N-Out Burgers for a late-night dinner. Nothing better than gear oil and Double-Doubles, correct?
While most of the crew called it quits after midnight, Doug Berg was up past 4:30am, rebuilding our differential at his shop. That’s when he found two cracks in the ring gear…. And the thrash was postponed.
Saturday morning, a conference call to Scotland took place. Another meeting of the minds. European Bug-In was the ultimate goal, and according to Russell Ritchie, there was no alternative other than getting Darrell’s car back together for the shipping date of this coming Wednesday! A new dose of adrenaline was injected to our deflated minds. That discussion was followed by another call to Sam Shackleford to reach out and ask for some serious help.
Monday morning at 8:00, our wounded transmission will be dropped off to Rancho for major surgery once again. It’s not their fault we killed tranny #2, we take credit for that. The car’s not right…. But it will be in Chimay, Belgium June 30!

Loving the troubleshooting everyone is doing to this car. Shows not everything goes perfectly fine after assembling an old VW.

Hello and greetings to you gentlemen - Ron Fleming and Dean Kirsten. I have much respect for you both - Dean for your perseverance bringing Darrell's former car back, and Ron for your legendary influence over the Cal look and your driving skills in the past and in this present day. Stay safe and keep buggin! Oh, and I love the custom work on the decklid of this '67! Ted aka VWsAndVettes

There isn’t anyone around that trues tires any longer, or we would.
