It's amazing how long these old bodybuilders lived, Hackenschmidt also lived to the age of 90 and many others too. Nowadays bodybuilders reach the age of 50 with a dozen surgeries and many drop dead before that, goes to show how natural training improves quality of life and longevity, and how abusing PEDs destroys your body.

Most famous bodybuilders like Arnold and more died rly late or haven’t even died yet. Overall most PED users who compete for Olympia have a longer life span than the average person due to the activity they do and quality diet they follow. Now if they didn’t take PED’s it would be even better but overall while PED’s do have huge amounts of effects on the body it is possible to use them in a relatively safe way

These people were so strong and achieved so much with minimal resources and equipment that people today literally can't even believe the feats of strength that were performed by them in the past. Somewhere along the way we have lost the spirit and perseverance that these men had in the past, to achieve the same feats without using things like PED's and other modern resources, when all it really takes is will, effort and perseverance to overcome your own self.

I think it's we now have too much choice. Look at our gyms now with all the specialised equipment for each muscle group and think all they had in their days were a few bars or they had to be creative eg with giant rocks. Bruce Lee had a quote that was something like: "I fear not the man who knows a thousand kicks, I fear the man who's practiced one kick a thousand times" Maybe that's true in this situation, instead of getting to a plateau and changing training styles like we are told to do today, they just kept on until they broke it? These guys are ripped, no doubt about that, but their lifts are heavier than their muscles and mass would suggest they are capable of.

Would be a detriment to be natural with that potential almost. Surely he is not. I remember training in Latvia hardcore gyms as a foreigner and they were taking alot of stuff. Martin(s) Licis, as they put an S on the ending of all male names, hails from Latvia. So by the gist of it they are all on gear surely. I cant even blame them. Its hard to maintain such high muscle mass and avoid muscle waste. You want to put Test as foundation with other stuff and keep it with HGH often to prevent the loss of new tissue. Stimulate appetite and muscle protein synthesis.

Today the sport has changed for money and for the steroid hormones that are used, today an athlete does not exceed 50 and dies from a problem due to steroids in his body and see how old his body is due to the use of Anabolic Steroids,It is beautiful to see how this sport did have people who are and will be an example of well-being and health versus sport today. It's really weird because olympic lifting has been around for a long time and you would think that people would find it logical to use squatting as a complementary exercise for olympic lifts.

In that picture they could’ve loaded the plates while the bar was on his back. Still a legendary lift though.

It's crazy seeing these early lifters and then we see what historical figures look like in Hollywood... clearly not an accurate historical depiction. This is the type of physique we should be going after not Hollywood's.

Curious that despite his strength in squatting, his leg development pales in comparison with Steve Reeves! One would imagine that building up to such heavy squatting would translate into huge, well developed thighs!
