Guess what, he lived to 95 cause he was natty. Could it be that lifting heavy is actually really healthy if you don't kill your liver and kidneys with gear? 🤔
It's amazing how long these old bodybuilders lived, Hackenschmidt also lived to the age of 90 and many others too. Nowadays bodybuilders reach the age of 50 with a dozen surgeries and many drop dead before that, goes to show how natural training improves quality of life and longevity, and how abusing PEDs destroys your body.

There are plenty of previous Anabolic Steroid users that lived into very old age. PED users don't ALL die incredibly young. Just like you will find completely clean strength athletes that died young. The sport of weight lifting often causes heart enlargement even without PED use.

Most famous bodybuilders like Arnold and more died rly late or haven’t even died yet. Overall most PED users who compete for Olympia have a longer life span than the average person due to the activity they do and quality diet they follow. Now if they didn’t take PED’s it would be even better but overall while PED’s do have huge amounts of effects on the body it is possible to use them in a relatively safe way
In the Natty or Not era it’s soo cool to see these stories about famous strong men making these incredible gains. So much grit and ingenuity and excitement towards worthy challenges. I’m sure every one was looking for a way to make gains, but I don’t think it was even 1/16th of the sketchy mess we have to deal with today!!!

These people were so strong and achieved so much with minimal resources and equipment that people today literally can't even believe the feats of strength that were performed by them in the past. Somewhere along the way we have lost the spirit and perseverance that these men had in the past, to achieve the same feats without using things like PED's and other modern resources, when all it really takes is will, effort and perseverance to overcome your own self.

I think it's we now have too much choice. Look at our gyms now with all the specialised equipment for each muscle group and think all they had in their days were a few bars or they had to be creative eg with giant rocks. Bruce Lee had a quote that was something like: "I fear not the man who knows a thousand kicks, I fear the man who's practiced one kick a thousand times" Maybe that's true in this situation, instead of getting to a plateau and changing training styles like we are told to do today, they just kept on until they broke it? These guys are ripped, no doubt about that, but their lifts are heavier than their muscles and mass would suggest they are capable of.

Would be a detriment to be natural with that potential almost. Surely he is not. I remember training in Latvia hardcore gyms as a foreigner and they were taking alot of stuff. Martin(s) Licis, as they put an S on the ending of all male names, hails from Latvia. So by the gist of it they are all on gear surely. I cant even blame them. Its hard to maintain such high muscle mass and avoid muscle waste. You want to put Test as foundation with other stuff and keep it with HGH often to prevent the loss of new tissue. Stimulate appetite and muscle protein synthesis.

Absolute legend. Heard of this squat variation before. Before modern equipment or hormones
This is the essence of strength sports and bodybuilding, being able to be in excellent physical condition and have a healthy and longer old age. Today the sport has changed for money and for the steroid hormones that are used, today an athlete does not exceed 50 and dies from a problem due to steroids in his body and see how old his body is due to the use of Anabolic Steroids,It is beautiful to see how this sport did have people who are and will be an example of well-being and health versus sport today. Have a look into Paul Anderson from Georgia USA during the 60’s and 70’s.
The men from those generations had higher testosterone, there were not plastics and endocrine disruptors all around back then, unlike today
The way he gets the bar up from vertical position, if I twisted my back like that with heavy load on top, I'd get some serious serious back problems.
Maybe it was a good thing to not have racks, as you could not load up too much weight that you may not be able to handle. Also they surely had strong as hell core muscles.
really shows how much healthier, wiser and more functional and aestetic sportmen were before modern shit like internet, social media and all kinds of steroids.
