I mean not even just his biomechanics with arm length to height ratio, but look at his muscle mass, (obviously his back is almost like a work of art, but the development of of forearm muscles in comparison to upper arms), , insertion points, heck, even the size of his hands, and the narrow clavicles. Work ethic was obviously there as well, but it's like it was God's plan,"( shout out Drake), for this man to find and fall in love with the deadlift.

    I have his book, written by his daughter.Yes, we’ve all been there and wanted to toss our plates away. Peoples actually did it! Only to have to hike them back up the hill. Peoples would deadlift while standing in a hole, and shovel dirt into it every session to increase the range of motion needed, and thus the load. After seeing a photo of Paul Anderson - who spent some early time noting what Peoples did - squatting in a wooden beam power rack with drilled holes, I made my own as a teenager. It served me very well! I have an original Girard Trap Bar. Does anyone recall Rader’s ring squat device?? Lots of great independent minded innovators once upon a time! I think a lot of people without cash have improvised (though not quite to the extent of Bob!). I grew up in the sticks as well and used all kinds of things as weights, concrete poured into old buckets and things they used for holding roadworks signs which used to be concrete but are now usually made of compressed crumb rubber and recycled plastic. In my garden now I have a few of those latter ones and I use them with a bar for deadlifting outside in the summer and I add extra plates where needed. Also tying on plates like in that photo. We even did that at the old athletics club which had no Olympic bars and the plates were never big enough to leave enough space on the ends of the bar, so some ended up strapped onto the inner bar. There was a home-made 'V-bar' made by someone from the steelworks and the middle bend was so deep it knocked into your thigh (or worse) or if you turned it around it almost hit you in the face.😂

    Gospel of Jesus Christ John 3:16 For God So loved the world that he gave his only Begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not Perish but have Everlasting Life. Jesus Christ Died for the sin of the World, If you believe in ur heart God risen Jesus from the dead and confess him with ur mouth to people you shall be saved. Jesus said I Am The only way to heaven there is no other way! Repent of urs sins (Repent means Change ur Mind turning away from sinful things and being truly sorry for it.) trust Jesus and give ur life to him He Loves you cares about you more than anyone ever will! we are saved By Grace Trough Faith!,this is sin: Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death but the gift of eternal life in our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 3:23 For all have sined and felt short of the Glory of God. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Romans 1:18‭-‬21‭, ‬23 KJV Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9‭-‬10 REPENT OR YOU WILL PERISH REPENT AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL GET RIGHT WITH GOD LORD JESUS CHRIST.

It does take quite a while to get all the info together but it feels nice to remember them this way and present it in a digestible format for people who might not have heard of them. • @NattyLifeYT

    @NattyLifeYT

    8 ай бұрын

    Yeah Goerner had bigger numbers but also weighed a solid 80-90 pounds more. I wonder why the Americans made no mention of his record, not sure if it was a WW2 thing or if his convential lift was not done in an official contest. Both legends in their own right anyway, certainly with the one handed DL. I reckon pound for pound Peoples was more impressive on the conventional, what do you think?

  • @atlaspowershrugged

    @atlaspowershrugged

    8 ай бұрын

    @NattyLifeYT the other factor to consider is specialization. Peoples was definitely a deadlift specialist whereas Goerner was a hyper-generalist who was not interested in reaching his absolute max conventional since he was worried that might be bad for his health. It'd be kind of like comparing the deadlift of a smaller elite powerlifting deadlift specialist to a bigger crossfitter these days.

    Great video! A drug free 725 deadlift at 181 is still very impressive today and even more as he did it double overhand (hook grip)? Bob probably also invented the hook grip. I did a 685 deadlift back in 1989 in the American Drug Free Powerlifting Association at 242 which was a really good deadlift at the time in that federation to put some perspective on what Bob did. I remember reading a young Paul Anderson met and trained with an older Bob Peoples. Paul from North Georgia mountains (Tocoaa) and Bob from East Tennessee both Appalachian mountain boys!! I have always loved both powerlifting history and Appalachian mountain culture from that era. Just fascinating video and Bobs wife Juanita was a beauty too. Where can we get access to those articles by Terry Todd and Paul Anderson?
