I think the changes are mostly good. If something is wrong it will be fixed. As an example Germany finally feels like a proper German civ. Love it

Ima picture But seriously, I was also experimentking with this card and found it quite powerful in my elo range. Except when someone had some light infantry lying around like one British player who had some longbows ready waiting for me. I think it's strong if unexpected and unprepared and that's why it will be good for the next weeks but then everyone will know what it is and how to look out for it.

This is just the first video of you I stumbled over. Everything you are saying, from content to choice of words to tone of your voice sounds fair to me. I can't understand people who don't like honest individual critisism. You are not hating or raging, you are sharing your opinion in the most diplomatic way you can imagine. And nowadays the entertainment industry in its whole, has lost so much valuable substance, if it's a movie, a TV-show, a game ... @@Widgie The last 2.5 years taught people that any kind of critisism can easily be turned into "hatespeach". Over here in Germany for example the german word for critisism got replaced by the english word "feedback" (these words have different meaning 😜).... so germany is totally brainwashed when it comes to critisism. But the over all hate against any kind of critisism is generally pushed by the p.c. cancle cultre. Am I getting out of context? - yes. Is it important to realize that you can be called out for factual critisism and it's totally fine? - yes, it is important. That gaming content makes me type stuff like this. hahaha Have a great weekend. 🙏

@widge yup that needed to be fixed before they put out this update. Very broke update. I've played this kid numerous times as well. He's very unskilled, so to watch him dominate really illuminates to me (subjective view) just how wild this update us. Not to mention Spanish and Mexico needed a nerf which they didn't address at all.

Yeah it was a little demoralizing, I think that the strategy can be defended but for it's going to be very difficult for the majority of the player base.

Super strong for sure at 5:30 for that many highlanders is such a lol, that’s not even enough time to incorporate getting counter merc units in

100%.... very unlikely you will be able to hold off a push 9 highlanders and FF in a decent enough time to combat the opponent its way to OP

My friend tried this strat in a 1v1 against me last night. It didn't turn out too well for him as he couldn't defeat my Portuguese FF 3 organs and 3 TC's.

I mean, I agree with you to some extent, but I feel if you look at his deck during age 2 and you know he is gonna do this. You can easily counter by massing skimishers. But, you're right in the sense most mid-low level (the vast majority of players) elo players will not be able to deal with this. Op muskets into op Gatling guns.

Even with skirms, the highlabders make more damage and US can use calv along with their highlanders

Just image, what if Scottish immigrant is combined with native treaty, following with the buffed owlhoot from saloon. If it really works out, that is probably the hardest all-in to counter.

I think it's a highly telegraphed opening, just unfortunate that India of all civs have a problem with lack of early xbow spam to pre-empt the attack on the 5th minute.

I was there when widgie played this live and streamed it to me. It was not even 12 hours after the "patch" dropped and people were already abusing over powered strategies like this on ladder. I truly belive that the developers don't do quality control (oos Bug), they don't consult enough pro players for balance feedback or they straight up dont care. Absolutely no excus for this mess of a "patch". What a shame.

I’d just like to point out by the time this guy has 9 highlanders, USA can have 4 gatlings (7:05), and Russia can have 23 Strelets (5:15) with another batch or two atleast. I don’t think it’s “OP” but it’s definitely a nice eco oriented build that would be very situational on civ match up. Good stuff

Just as I elaborated in the video, a well thought out and executed build you could have the highlanders by 5:30. Plus further outlaws/natives behind it too

@@Widgie Yeh 100%, I tried doing thing myself recently and it’s definitely potent. Idk about the natives behind it since u can’t send that many cards back to back, but u could defs be under ur opponent’s tc sub 6, which vs a Russian rush wouldn’t be too good… but vs a civ doing an ff or semi ff this is the perfect counter to that due to the high HP of the highlanders. Same with a timing push, like this will crush a cannon and cav/musk ff, or cav/musk timing. Good vid tho and well presented

As I’ve said before it’s only right to point these issues out so that they get sorted. I’m happy that there’s new content but we need to make sure certain things get fixed

Highlanders actually do somewhat less damage than a normal musk per population so cav with ranged infantry should do well.

They can handle the units that are supposed to counter them in age II. Very OP indeed

I take your point thats this strategy seemed strong with mediocre implementation and would be even scarier with tighter mechanics. On the one hand, do think that the kiting with the initial 5 gurkhas could be better and dont know about 7 age 2cav charging 5 gats. On the other hand, I'm not too sure it would have mattered. Cant really think of a way to burn the TP to hobble this since it takes off so fast and the only possible counter feels like 5 - 7 veeery well microed abus guns. Yea, this is just too much too soon for most civs, just seeing it made me consider if assasins were worth it.

Disclaimer: I'm not good at the game. Just my experience but while this is strong in age two it seems to fall apart pretty hard against anyone who turtles or goes FF

Actually I could beat the strat like 3 times already… 1st time day 1 when no one knew it yet. The dude made a mistake to siege my tp (Germany) so I could ship xbows. Mm and xbow defended the rush, gg. Another time I water boomed abd massed skirms. A win as well. It is super obvious whats coming when US start taking tps. You can prepare accordingly and win. No big deal :)

it looks like you killed the highlanders though? Gurkhas definitely can kite them to death. Plus, the FF can destroy this too since the timing was very slow. Even if they get 9 highlanders at 5:30, they have only coin eco and not much other infrastructure to pivot too so you know you won't be fighting cav and can spam skirms. Plus they've spent 3 shipments on setting up 9 units, which to be honest takes a lot While yes highlanders are strong, I don't think this is broken per say. Having skirms or bowman with 16 range and kiting can deal with this, if you don't split fire and target one at a time too that will help.

Bro 9 highlanders followed by a few batches of mercs harassing your vills would result in a FF that would be like 13 mins. In which case the American would have already aged. This card is too op for most civs. Needs a nerf

I think this definitely needs to be reviewed as a lot of the playerbase are going to struggle against this, a lot of the higher level players will be fine but I'm worried about the other 90% of players.

I called it right away in the update overview 19. It's pretty strong, but I still wouldn't call it broken; you just need to avoid melee, and use defensive outposts/go heavy on skirms/spread around and counterattack with cavalry, etc. Though the card alone kinda forces an opponent to either go defensive or actively snipe and impede/delay Saloons and Trading Posts.

This is highly unbalanced, Widgie is 100% right, i faced player using Scottish highlander + OwlHoots + Cow Boys combo in Age 2. Game over in 7min. You need not go to Age3 Even cowboy is OP, they have high high points and so fast nothing ever can catch them plus they can easily defeat 12 archers of any civ in age2. LOL, which are supposed to a be counter

South Africa + Wanderlust, completely broken card, i played a game, NOT TREATY , the game lasted 2h, we lost, his musketeer had 1400hp, his cav had 3000hp, literaly impossible to beat, we left the game, if i see this card again being use again i will stop playing, i play this game online since 2008, but some of these newer mechanics they implemented in DE are just broken.

Been playing since 2011 and think this is the best era ever. Before most games were just Ottomains and Iroquois Colonial/Fortress wars, now there's so much stuff to try out. Like Spanish Fast Imperial came back! China is pretty decent, French can even go Napoleonic armies now.

@@kingstarscream3807 They're not gonna wipe Legacy. Legacy has an a small but passionate following. With Legacy and DE both out there, I think that how things are right now is perfect. Legacy for the Purists. And DE for experimentation. In DE things start broken but then get balanced and fixed. It's kinda like everyone gets to be a beta tester. Which lets them push out a lot of content really quickly. Which lets the game evolve and expand at a super fast rate. They have completely changed the game. But legacy is still there any time you want to go classic
