Yes - this is the video I wish I had seen 6 months ago when I started on my modern calligraphy journey! I did calligraphy as a kid years ago, so I bought a "calligraphy kit" to get started, and it didn't even have a complete alphabet in the 'guide'. Next I searched KZread and found people who recommended dip pens.. And I bought the modern calligraphy book from Amazon that everyone says to buy. It didn't add up. I didn't have a brush pen because I thought that wasn't 'real' calligraphy. I couldn't do your drills because my pens didn't make sense. Now I have a better sense of what all of this means, and I do prefer dip pens to brush pens myself... But I wouldn't start that way. I should have put money into those workbooks you show here instead. That would have been a much better use of money and time! I'm still gonna do that, because I'm doing exactly what you said - copying someone else's styles to practice, and not making progress. Thank you, Becca. I've been waiting for exactly this video.
I've taken the drills twice now. I love revisiting the drills as it keeps my skills fresh. Becca is the best teacher. There is no reason to go searching elsewhere. Take the free course, then move on with all of the other books. 💖
Sorry, Becca, I went "full brand name" on the things you've mentioned and couldn't understand why I would pay $14 CDN for a pad of grid paper and $6.00 for a pen. No doubt there's a benefit for someone getting deeper into Calligraphy, but a $2.00 pad of paper and leaded pencils, when making up strokes and down strokes, was all I needed.

Are you seriously complaining about paying $20C to learn a new hobby/skill? These are recommendations not requirements. Having the proper tools when you are learning is so important to help master the basics. The supplies are not a one time use either. Properly used they can be used again and again and again. And if $20 is too much for some people, and I understand that for many people that is money that they feel is better spent elsewhere, a pencil, scrap paper and an internet connection can indeed get you started. I’m sure Becca would be OK with whatever you use.

I wanted to try to see if I liked it. And also went with regular pencil and paper it is not the same. The right tools make a difference. You can also go with crayola brand.
In her free course you can download them. That course is really good, btw.
Never gets old listening to you. I'm glad I found you back in 2019 ❤❤❤
I did these courses a couple of years ago and loved it! It taught me a lot!
Thank you for sharing these!

Thank you so much.
And your calligraphy is so cool
Just wondering how to get the exercise booklets in your video, they don't seem to be anywhere in your shop?
Thank you for this! Very helpful to understand what is needed to start learning modern calligraphy. Is there anything as a leftie I should be aware of? I sometimes find being left handed means an adjustment needs to be made when trying to learn new things.

Hi there, I am not left handed but Dinu Lu has some videos on this
How about if you are left handed? Is it more difficult?
This is super helpful! Thank you. Where can I find the Drills workbook you show in the video? I don't see it available in your shop. Thanks!
Where do I get the booklets? Do you sell them and ship them?
Where can I buy these books are they expensive??
Love from SRI LANKA
Hai madam I am your big fan
I'm in South Africa. How can I go about ordering your workbooks as shown in this video? Are they perhaps purchasable digitally (PDF)?
