if you want to make a good cocktail you need to measure, free pouring can only be so accurate and for speed it's great but for taste not so much

I was expecting people to be throwing around the bottles and pouring 10 drinks at once but was very pleased to see everyone being methodical

I hear the term mixologist isn’t a real thing used by bartenders. It’s just something someone made up to make themselves feel more important than a “regular bartender.” They give off the same vibe as wine tasting experts.

Lots of pressure but with the creative nature and technical requirements, these folks all deserved to be there!

Bombay S is pretty good and it’s not abrasive as other Gins, so mixing it works wonders when you’re trying to hit a distinct flavor. Pick a recipe that tries to highlight a particular aspect of the drink and make it twice, one with Tanqueray and the other with Bombay S. I’m not saying it’s the best tasting but in the sense of mixing, you can’t go wrong :)

i think i've barbacked for justin at a competition before lol! if so, he made an amazing shot with frozen cubes of watermelon. i wish this was a little more detailed, but you can't when mixologists are always making their own syrups and bitters.
