Crazy; that’s the best word to describe Femke Bol’s journey this season. Mind you, it’s not only the good kind of crazy. She shone and stumbled - literally - on the track; and yet, as the season comes to a close, she is recognized as one of the top-performing female athletes of the year.
In fact, Dutch athlete #FemkeBol was among the five finalists for Women’s World Athlete of the Year honors as was recently announced by World Athletics. How did this come about, you may ask?
Well, as I mentioned, Femke Bol has had quite a season. When Femke Bol started her 2023 by breaking a world indoor #trackandfield best, it was clear she was poised for a great year.

What I like about her, she is 'the girl nextdoor', always herself, no show, when you fall, you get up.. Always do your best no matter what...👏💪

What an incredible mental comeback from that horrific fall. I think she panicked at an unfamiliar site next to her like a burglar, and that extra gear wasn’t there. The rest of her meet could’ve been a psychological disaster, but she proved to us and herself how she can overcome the worst adversity. All this at 23… What an inspiration. 👏🏆

It could as well be just a bad day. That happens in top sport. Professional speed cyclists have an expression for such a day: “I had bad legs”. She isn’t a robot!

(at 4.50 and 5.28): Not 52.45, it's 51.45!! Not a "full second" gap to nr 2. It's a 2.3! second gap. Very, very impressive Run in London.

And at the end I was waiting for the last race in budapest, not even told here. The british reporter called that the "impossible last leg" in the 4 * 400m women. The ultimate revanche for her fall earlier in Budapest. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pK6f1s9sYJCZZM4.html (last leg at 3:26)

McLaughlin lacks the guts to fight Bol in a direct match again, avoiding all races, even the world championship in Hungary. A bit Mcoward-ish, I would say.

Why isn't she running is she injured? World championships to me are the biggest year in year out. You just can't run every 4 years and expect to be the best. Shows me she is cheating

@@Sambone702Lots of questions at the least. I can’t understand an absence off the track for, mind you, five months due to (as she told herself) a MINOR knee injury.

@@hermanmertens8383 I don't believe the injury excuse. I think McLaughlin probably tested positive and got suspended. American sports authorities usually cover up for their top athletes. Let's face it, any athlete who is trained by a well documented doping coach like Bobby Kersee will eventually be suspected of doping. Only idiots would actually believe that an athlete who breaks long standing WR's with such ease and frequency is clean. Among Bobby Kersee former athletes: Flo Jo and Jackie Joiner Kersee, both still hold WR's still standing since the 80's. That's why I doubt if any woman 400 m hurdler will ever break the WR rset by McLaughlin. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

Femke Bol raced more 400’s in one event than Sydney McLaughlin Levrone the whole year 2023. Twenty individual runs this year, and she won them all. If McLaughlin never shows up, she can’t be beaten, right? So you’d rather not mention your hiding champion in one breath with world record breaking and two times world champion Femke Bol. In stead you could give credits were there are due. Oh and it isn’t even a French proverb. In Dutch: Als de kat van huis is, dansen de muizen op de tafel.

That’s a silly comment. There is always one competitor not being able to compete because of anxiety, sickness, injury, banned, suspended or not allowed to compete at all, like the Russians. It is all about being present at the race that matters, otherwise you wouldn’t need to have a match or championship at all. We can’t help the fact that a competitor is afraid to lose, so choose not to show up. the other runners at least tried and gave their best. I don’t wanna see a runner not giving their best, so it’s a good thing the pussy stayed away.
