If you're looking to make your dream game but don't want to start doing random games first, you could do simple prototypes from a focused area of the game. Let's say you want to make a Space Sim game. Alright what does a space sim game have: * Flying and Combat * Economy and Trading * Inventory Management, equipment * Skills and Attributes * Ship AI, NPCs and Dialogue * Hyperspace Travel, System Layout Ok, pick the most important part like Flying and Combat and start working on it. You'll be surprised how complex that single thing is and how much work that needs. Is it not working out, or isn't fun? No problem, try doing a different thing. Make a game entirely around trading with very simple interaction and little to no graphics. If it's going great, maybe release that as a standalone game.

Very good video. For me I did the exact reverse. I developed a 3D game with a ball in Unity, then went to 2D and was trying to make it more and more simple. Eventually simple games done right started to click and had much more players. Nowadays I only suggest game engines, because doing your own engine is frighteningly difficult. Plus you got everything already pre-made. In Unreal you do not even need to do any coding if you use blueprints. I also tried using Construct 2 and was very easy to work with and didnt require any coding.

Starting small is easy, it’s the keeping things small that’s hard. Good luck!!

When you said "one day I decided I wanted to make games" ... had you done any programming or software development at that point?

I would start with KZread tutorials first to see if you like it. If you end up falling in love try out Udemy, that’s what I did :)

@@phoneaddiction sure, but it really depends on what you want to make. I make 2d unity games so I took a course called “2D Unity for beginners”. I would just browse a bit and look at the reviews, I’m sure you’ll find something that works!
