@@drybonespaintingservices3017 This is not true. The true fastest mile on a flat surface was run by Hicham El Guerrouj in a time of 3:43.13, meaning he ran at 16.13 mph. Even a relatively fit average human can sprint at around 18 mph. The longest event that is considered to be entirely a sprint is the 400 meters. Technically, 400 meters sprinters only actually sprint for around 350 meters of the 400 because that is the absolute maximum distance a human can realistically run at top speed for before the aerobic system takes over.

For those wondering Hicham El Guerrouj ran the fastest track mile in ‘99 at 3:43.34. That is 55.47 seconds per lap.

While it was downhill, that is still an insane pace to be running. Have you ever ran down a steep slope? It’s gonna hurt. It’s not the fastest mile ever, but it is extremely impressive.

@@luciamartin8725 he went to the same school I go to in England and my school honors him every year at a track meet bc he didn’t just hold that record but he ran track for us and was our best miler on a track for HS anyway sadly he died when he was 18 in a car accident we still like to honor him tho that’s why he have a track meet everyone year that’s dedicated to him

Where do you get 17.6? 3.24 minutes / miles Times 1 hour / 60 minutes Cancels out the minutes and you get 0.054 hours / miles Now take the inverse =18.5 miles / hour Edit: I misheard 3:24 with 3.24 So we got 3.4minutes/mile Same math gives us 17.6. My bad, your math is good

this is true. while at the sleeping bear dunes in michigan, i ran down them to the bottom. i absolutely flew. at 14 years old probably upwards of 25 miles an hour and it felt insane
