Just think how much knowledge we wouldn't have if it wasn't for people that love nature so much that they invest their whole life into learning and documenting it all then share it with the rest of the world, I value these types of people that share their knowledge of nature for without them we would all be less educated. We raised our three children without any TV except for special events (eg, election night, 9/11, etc.). Our home has a beautiful custon-built theater with a 104" screen, which we reserved for watching carefully selected movies and documentaries. Now in their '20s, they watch little TV.

Dang there is some incredible photography in this. That scene at 30:05 is two chef's kisses. Rugged rocks meets blissful sky and a horizon that seems like it could go on forever. A field of elegant and wild white, all just the great scenery with an ancient and mind-bogglingly complex history that preceded the beauty of the moment. Hard to ask for better inspiration from a picture.

THIS is what I expect from nature shows. Thank you.

That German plane wreck at the bottom of the lake is just plain spooky. I got the opportunity to dive on the wreck of a Ju-88 that was shot down off the island of Crete in the Mediterranean during my time in the Navy. What a spectacular experience that was! The markings on the landing gear were still quite readable and the tires had zero deterioration even after 80 years. It was surreal.

Some of the very best footage I have ever seen of native European freshwater fishes. Amazing!! The shot of the frightened Barbel was special and those Perch were so beautifully coloured. Not to mention the fantastic footage of those Zander. I don't think I've ever seen underwater shots of them in their natural environment before. Very impressed with the whole thing! Thank you.

This was a wonderful documentary. Thank you to all of the divers, camera operators, explorers, historians and narrator. Captivating!!!

Absolutely stunning piece of work. I struggle to imagine how all the scenes were captured. It seems like a monumental project. Just capturing the frog and newt sequence is challenge enough. How cold must it have been for the divers?!? So clear underwater too. I am just amazed how it was all made.

I've watched BBC earth and blue planet all kinds of nature films from everywhere, and have never been so informed and in awe. Truly an incredible channel, deserving of much more recognition. I mean this video has taught me more than anything I've seen in a while. Thank you guys, amazing work

rainbow trout has to be one of the most durable fish species. growing up in new england, when there was no internet , we would go wandering in the woods as kids. there were tiny little streams, narrow enough that you could stand on both sides at one time, and it would have rainbow trout in it. the tiniest, muckiest mud pool would have rainbows in it. it always amazed me how they survived, & more so, how the hell they got there.

I don't eat a lot of salmon. . .I like the taste, but my reverence for the salmonoid species of fish is very high. The struggle of their lives is unfathomable to us humans, yet they persevere, year after year, returning to spawn within feet of where they were born.

Love your story. As a kids after school in Missouri we immediately took to the hills of the Ozark's and exploring all the streams or creeks nearby. We called it "creek walking". Turning over small rocks in the hunt for "crawdads" or tadpoles just to hold them and release. We would walk for a mile or more losing ourselves in our adventures. Dusk signaled the time to weave our way back home. Never sat in front of a tv after school when you had creeks and woods to explore. It was such a better classroom than school, wish we had educational programs like Forest School today. No kid or teenager was overweight or on ADHD or anxiety, depression medication. I too was mystified by how rainbow trout could find its way into a puddle of creek with only a small trickle of water. Did not know how they spawn and swim upstream or wait until rains and creeks fill after a storm. A wonderful video from 1988 TIMELIFE "NATURE" series called "The Miracle of the Scarlet Salmon" about the life cycle and the bittersweet struggle of the salmon told from the perspective of the salmon changed my world and everyone who watched it felt we should be an advocate for salmon and care about nature conservation and the environment. I just looked up the credits and the producer Richard Brooks was the First B Cameraman of The Descendents with George Clooney set in and about Hawai'ian lands. Synopsis of film: Once every four years 2 million red salmon reach the Adams River near the Rocky Mountains in Canada. They spawn and die in a spectacle watched by a quarter of a million people. It's still on VHS!! Hope someday TIMELIFE remasters and re-releases it to stream for free on KZread.

@@life_of_riley88 I live on an island in the PNW and we often volunteered in the spring seasons to help trim the dorsal fins (to mark them as wild /please release if caught ) of chum (Silver Kings) to be released into a pond nursery before being released into the Pacific, then 3 years later after swimming around the world those same full grown salmon return to the same small stream on the island to swim up to spawn and die. It is the most extraordinary sight and experience. Sad as well. I stopped eating sushi, shellfish, seafood, freshwater fish, after leaning so much of their struggle and loss of habitat. I mentioned this video in a separate comment here, if you can find it TIMELIFE "Nature" series 1988 Miracle of the Scarlet Salmon.

In some scenes the flowers underwater are so beautiful, it's like an underwater garden that I never imagined.

Stunning photography and so educational! This is one of the best nature documentaries. I had no idea these gorgeous lakes existed or the universe of creatures that dwell below the surface. The Dolomites and Slovenia are now on my travel list. This should be in every American school curriculum. I learned more about fresh water fish and algae, the mammals in the Alps in this 50 min docu than 80's era college and high school Science and Biology combined.

@@chasejordan9295 Maybe it has, but 35 years ago as stated my U.S. public school education in the 1980's was lacking in all areas and our Houghton Mifflin textbooks were outdated by 20 years. Our History textbooks began with The 13 Colonies and ended with the New Deal. No world history classes offered until college. Encyclopedias and Scholastic book clubs were the only books on world history, science, available to us , beyond Newsweek & Time magazines, NBC CBS ABC & PBS and world news at 6 with Cronkite or Jennings. KZread is like repeating K-12 only a million times better.

@@SnailHatan As a REDCARD Type 2 Wildland Firefighter I have hiked steep rugged mountain terrain working fire suppression carrying 70lbs of gear, on the west coast, in an attempt to protect the forests and woodlands and creatures that live there, as well as volunteering to fight wildland fires in WA state to protect the lakes and streams on and around mountain lakes while living on a mountain near a spring fed lake next to a dormant volcano. My comment was about not knowing anything or the ecology and beauty of Slovenia and Dolomites, and trying to show some gratitude to the filmmakers. I hope this answers your question.

You can live here, hunting is not allowed most of this footage is from nature reserves. And you can hike to villages with public transit in a few hours time starting at the lake. Its actually very accessible. But has a large winter tourism season, once that is over its very quite and nice. If you get the chance go hike and camp in these mountains.

This is one of the most beautiful videos I have seen in a long time. I’m so glad I found this channel. We used to be able to watch this kind of content on TLC and Discovery. All this reality stuff has ruined TV. Of course you can always go to the App Store and buy and app. Yeah pay for internet then pay for an app lol. They get us coming and going!!

@ab ab I feel like it's the best wake up call to all of us. Not just that death is a part of life, but that the only real purpose of life is to create more life. The age old question of "why do we exist?" can be answered so simply with just "to make more life" or more precisely as "to continue our species existence". There is no other reason, but given that such a reason is incredibly boring to all sentient species, we quickly ignore this reason and try to find another grand reason behind it all. But there is none and any other reason is completely subjective and varies from person to person. We really only live to get kids, raise those kids and then die.

I've been watching a lot of these different doco's lately and our world is absolutely beautiful. Nature and history amazing, some scary.

I happened across this documentary searching for something completely different. Now I can't quit watching. I found my happy place. Peace to all!

What a beautiful documentary! I feel inspired to visit the Alps and see some of the sights for myself. I've only been to Austria once for a school skiing trip but we didn't really leave the resort during our time there.

Thank you for uploading this. It was beautiful. I've really missed these kinds of nature documentaries of these stunning places. Most "nature" channels these days just mindless junk and garbage reality shows. Watching quality documentaries like these sends me back to when I was a kid and dreamt of exploring the world, reading and learning about history, evolution, biology and nature :)

This was one of the best documentaries of this sort I've ever seen. Very enjoyable. Just very good. It really stood out from all that melodramatic-style crap that's seemingly everywhere.

I love watching these documentaries, brings me back to childhood when every saturday night we watched the tv, nature documentary with my dad 😊

Reminds me of the good old days when Discovery, National Geographic, Animal Planet, BBC and History aired proper documentaries, nowadays it's mostly reality TV, kind of sad really....

The sad part is that they had to change to those formats in order to survive cuz people would rather watch the garbage that they broadcast these days than these awesome documentaries

@@toddlehman928 Nature's rule, either you adapt yourself accordingly to the changing conditions, or you go extinct, still wish they'd kept a little of those documentaries, as for reality TV, Pawn Stars, Monster Quest, Mystery Quest, Ripley's Believe it or Not, A Haunting, River Monsters....those kinds of shows I still find enjoyable but most of them, not at all, I'd rather watch Attenborough reruns of old documentaries like Crocodile, World's Deadliest, Crocodile Hunter etc

well if it it wasn't more profitable for them they wouldn't broadcast all these reality tv shits, the public has changed too and people got dummer and actually the few people watching tv still consume these bs so yeah it's not gonna get better

More than sad...its trash tv for people who dont want to learn anything except their hairstyles..the clothes...the clones of each other..its tragic and boring for folk who want to better themselves.. never mind eh? Theres lots of good souls arround this planet. Choose your company carefully and dont hang around with dickheads and bimbos..they are leeches who will try to steal your strength.
