Great background on your roots. My grandfather and his parents came from Sweden in 1888 and he had his 2nd birthday on the ship. Came as Persson but immigration got it twisted to Pearson which I met a flight student when on aircraft, she was from Norway and her name was Pearsson. Grandpa's family settled in Minnesota but as an adult married Zimmerman from Germany and bought a farm in southeast Kansas. I was in Vietnam 2 tours as a combat medic but loved aircraft so went to school for an mechanic and didn't have an interest in farming and work airlines. Retired now and live in Central Washington in apple country in a rural community. Thanks for your videos.

The continuity of family farms from generation to generation is a wonderful thing. Most people today have nothing like that. People go away to school, get married and settle sometimes far from where they grew up. That makes it much harder to keep the sense of family identity. You are blessed indeed.

My great grandfather was a farmer in Tennessee in the 1880’s and 1890’s until the railroad took his land and he was forced to move his family from Jackson to Memphis. My grandfather was born in 1890 and taught himself cabinet making. He and many young men from Tennessee left for Texas and he eventually settled in Dallas and married in 1921. He became a building contractor and many of the houses and buildings are still standing and in use today.

I live in Sweden and I'm fascinated about the history when about 1.5 million Swedes emigrated to America in the 19th and 20th century. Many of them settled as farmers in Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa. I recently discovered your channel and understood from your name that you have Swedish ancestry. Really cool that you and your family are still farming the same land as your ancestors started more than hundred years ago. Keep up the good work!

My ancestors came from Norway, emigrated to Minnesota 1890, 1905 took a homestead in Saskatchewan 5.00$, . Changed last name to Rosaasen form Holverson. All because ther were Holverson's already, so granddad choose Rosaasen, because there were none there at the time

That's fantastic!! My family came from Germany around 1870 and settled in Grand Island, about 20 minutes from where Laura is located. A group of about 30 Germans came from Omaha to Grand Island and were instrumental in settling Grand Island. I've never been able to trace my families history into Germany, maybe someday I can dig deeper.

So interesting to hear about your family history Laura. You have so much to be proud of. As someone involved in agriculture here in the UK, I am always interested to hear what you have to say, and witness both the differences and similarities in the way your family farms. FYI: I love the 8210 on the loader. Where I live that's the kind of older tractor you'd have on the plough or seed drill. It's far too big for most British farmyards to use for loading feed.( Most British farms use telehandlers these days). It made me smile. Keep up the good work.

Terrific idea for the Concert and partnering with John Deere for the concert is a natural. I spent time on my family farm growing up in Southeast Kansas. My Great Grandparents settled the land in the 1880's and when I helped out some summers, I was 4th Generation. Members of my Uncle's Family continue to farm it, making it at least the 6th Generation working the same land. There's something special about the land, but even more so on a longtime family farm like yours. I think it's a special appreciation for the land inbred in each Generation by those coming before. It's not taking anything for granted because you know, if you don't do everything required to take the raw land to planting to irrigating, weeding, etc, to harvest, you don't get the Harvest. Even then, Nature might get you. But you do it all! You really get your hands (and many other parts) dirty. And there's such a satisfaction when you finally see the fruits of your labor. I commend you for becoming the next Generation on your land. And, bringing all of us along for the ride. There's a reason your channel has grown so rapidly. You make it possible for anybody to understand what you are doing and why. It helps people realize what they pick up at the grocery store doesn't happen without all the hours and care Farmers put in. Thank you for becoming a Farmer, Laura and for being such a great spokesperson for farming. Now for the Concert. Dave

My dad had a friend in the army that grew up on a ranch in NW South Dakota. Him and my dad were roughly the same age and his kids were about the same age as me (I'm now 56). Sadly none of his 5 kids wanted to continue the ranching life (the last i heard). I don't know whatever became of the place but I'm hoping that it remains in the family in some way. I'm so happy to see a young person such as you continuing your families legacy. So many are lured away to the big city where the live close in proximity but don't have the connections found in the rural lifestyle of farm and family. My dad's side of the family came from Poland about the same time as yours and my mom's side has been here since the late 1600's.

I remember the old '20' series tractors, I learned to drive on an old 5020, pulling a 24-foot MF cultivator... my dad would set the depth on the plow, get things moving (I wasn't big enough to fully disengage the clutch), and climb out the back door - and do it again, on reverse order, when he wanted to take back the controls...

My Uncle David Carlson’s family emigrated to the U.S. from Sweden. Most of his family settled in Maine to grow potatoes. Uncle Dave moved to Steuben County, N.Y. to raise potatoes and grain crops. Farming wasn’t his sole vocation as he also worked in construction. He didn’t farm a lot of land, and now most of it has been sold off. Sadly, he passed many years ago and neither his son or daughter carried on the farming tradition. I know a lot of Carlson’s came to the U.S. It’s possible that your family is related to Uncle Dave. He was a strapping man with a gentle soul. I love what you’re doing with this channel and growing your farm. 😎

Hi, I'm 65, grew up on a family farm which my family unfortunately lost in the mid-eighties. My family had John Deere tractors also, ranging from a 3010 bought brand new in 1963, to a 4010, 4020, 5020 and 4630, all used but new to us which we had to sell in 1985. However, for the past almost 18 years, I've been fortunate enough to work part time for a farmer I've known his whole life. He has 9 John Deere tractors, 7210, 7320, 2 of 7230, 6140R (all loader tractors), 7710, 8130, 8225R and 8235R (all 4 with auto steer and last 3 Mfwd). I help him plant, harvest and haul his crops and with hay baking. He has 2 18 wheelers, a Freightliner and a Peterbilt. Love your videos!!

I really like your Farm videos. I enjoy the ride alongside in the field. It’s very interesting and your explanations show your knowledge. John Deere is my favourite Farm Implement. Continued success and good health.
