The Failed Child of Destiny: Xehanort

Ойындар

A new "chosen one" aspect as been introduced into Kingdom Hearts again. What exactly is the Child of Destiny and how was Xehanort so close to becoming this but ended up in failure. Well...where do we start

I think the big difference between Sora and Xehanort is how they grew up. Xehanort was all alone save for his mentor. He had no friends to play with or a mother that could give him a hug when he's sad. The only friends he had, in a sense, were the kids in his dreams but he couldn't properly reach them. Losing all the classmates, even more so, made him incredibly lonely to which that desire and yearning for a connection can easily make him vulnerable to darkness. Sora, however, was blessed a normal life surrounded by friends and family that made him who he is. As such, Sora's principles of keeping the light alive despite all odds helped him get through many challenges because of the people that helped him along the way.

You know, it’s really interesting how Everglow told Xehanort about how he may become lights master, with how Xehanort ended up giving the kingdom hearts key to Sora before Sora started searching nonstop for Kairi… And that line of Xehanort’s saying “Very well done.” after Sora truly beat him starts to finally add up 🤔😅 Honestly it’s some great story telling, and it’s gotten me hyped for the lost masters saga now 🤣

Considering Xehanort was a child of war- or rather a descendant of one- raised to fear what little was known from the book of prophecies and darkness, from a world built by survivors mourning the loss of well everything.. to rephrase; he's a child of scala ad caelum- a child of the stairway to heaven, while sora is the child of destiny island. Im so hyped to see Players reasons behind his intentions in missing link, like why would he save this baby and no one else from what I'm assuming would be the destruction of the world itself? besides the obvious family inheritance that is..

Solid stuff here! I think the ONLY thing I’m still curious about is Sora’s “Anti” form & why it showed up in the final battle of KH3. Did Xehanort ALMOST bring out Sora’s darkness? Is that Anti form one of the 13 darknesses? With all of this added lore post Union Cross & Dark Road, where does that fall into place?

In KH3 it was Rage form - fueled by Sora's Anger and Pain - It is Sora's own power, his own Elemental Darkness which he slowly learns to use. Sora doesn't fear his own Darkness or tries to put a lid on it because he kinda has Riku as an example to follow. Like Xehanort said: "(Your own) Darkness cannot be destroyed. It can only be channeled."

To be fair going by everyone's reaction and no one blaming Xehanort for "choosing" to mercy kill Baldr... There simply was no option to "Save Baldr" - only option to "Save his Heart by releasing it from the body"... At least this was extent of their knowledge on how to handle such situation - I mean Eraqus in BBS also went ballistic and tried to "mercy kill" Terra when he saw him carrying so much Darkness in his Heart. Sora kinda works like an exception due to lack of formal Keyblade training and as Ansem The Wise said in DDD - "He simply believes and it makes it real".

  • @tylernelson9039

You could say Eraqus made that decision in BBS because that’s what Xehanort choose with Baldr. So there was definitely weight in there being a “choice” not to simply mercy kill. I think “saving his heart” is really more a moral solution. The only other way besides mercy killing would be what the player in union cross went through. A beam of light through the chest, presumably releasing the darkness even if it kills? No matter what, Baldr probably would have died but maybe his soul could pass on into the light of his heart was released. Versus dying while being possessed by his own darkness. Technically another light expired after all.

@@tylernelson9039 in UnionX it was just a Path Opening Beam of Light. The same thing Xehanort tries to use to finish off Sora and gets pierced by Trinity beam in return. Heck, Xemnas got the same treatment earlier in KH2 (exactly same beam Sora was using to open keyholes for new paths). Oh and Armored Xehanort Replica got a combined Light Beam shot at it so strong it got atomised. It doesn't save or disperse Darkness - It is just A BEAM + Portal opener if user chooses to - Player in KHUX never was possesed by Darkness (like Xemnas or Xehanort - first used Emptyness, second had perfect control) instead Player just got simply severely wounded by being shot through the chest and sucked into portal where pulled out heroic sacrifice and succumbed to wounds as world around them ceased to be. TL:DR - This beam doesn't purify. It pierces matter and fabric of reality and if overcharged ANNIHILATES EVERYTHING IN ITS PATH.

@@Ghostel3591 It’s definitely just speculation on my part. I’m not saying it directly “disperses darkness” but a strong beam of light is kind of the exact opposite of darkness itself right? I remembered Ursula’s eels being vaporized immediately in the music battle with her. So it made me think that any being of darkness would just be vaporized by that portal beam right? Where as the player in Union Cross does die, he’s not incinerated immediately. I think it may even be due to the part of the data space he was ported to. So I figured the beam just destroys darkness because it’s light. Even if that were to kill someone whose been weakened like Baldr.

@@tylernelson9039 it "disperses" Elemental Darkness. But Baldr's Darkness gained sentience but was still a part of him - even if it already acted like split personality - you can't just remove it - It would be like tearing away a part of the Heart. Ventus who had Sentient True Darkness foreign to his heart removed forcibly by Xehanort - almost died because even in that case connection formed with his Heart was already that strong that it tore away part of his Heart where his own Elemental Darkness was supposed to be - If not for Sora forging a supporting connection to help restore the lost part - Ven would've died. And it was a case of Darkness removal performed by an EXPERT in what appears to be a simplier case than removal of Darkness that was always part of a person.

You do realise that Odin was the first one to tell Xehanort to kill him right? That's why he has no reaction to Xehanort following his order, in fact he was the one who kept pushing him to do it in the cutscene. I would'nt be surprised if Luxu was Odin's master who was mentioned in the story so he could manipulate everyone to find someone with potential to start the Keyblade war. Something he would do, trigger the sequence of events and then stick himself in the thick of it to see if anyone shows up.

I think Xehanort and Sora both fit the bill for Child of Destiny like the mentor describes. Xehanort killing Baldr was just his way of "pressing on". As for saving the world... while it sounds kinda nonsensical, Xehanort losing to Sora is him saving the World. Xehanort could have had an end like Baldr and remained an enemy of the World into death, but he instead took his loss so the chosen one can still have a shot at saving the World from darkness.

Remember Both Eraqus and Xehanort were given the title of “Masters” However only Xehanort took the role of “Seeker”. His “trip” as the Master of Master’s (MOM) put it, was traveling through time to the future. So a better way to put it would be, Xehanort was not a seeker of “Darkness” but the seeker of “Destiny”. Armed with knowledge of the future, or another way to put it “See the chessboard”, Xehanort could seek out/create the “Child of Destiny”. Other things to note: -This “trip” happened after Baldir -Xehanort after separating Ventus and Vanitus, his first action was to take Ventus to the Destiny Islands, only taking him to Eraqus after seeing Ventus’ reaction. Which leads to the question of why? My opinion: To find a suitable candidate.

I never like this theory apply to Sora... Mainly because Nomura made it very clear everytime he was asked, he answers "Sora is a normal boy, who's special power is just being that, normal", so then who do i think it's the Child of Destiny... Well Riku, Riku is constantly challenge by darkness he is almost overtaken by it he is able to pull through and stop Ansem SoD, so much so that he had to send his heart to the realm of darkness. While Sora needed Kairi to pull through, alone he wasn't strong enough. Riku's connection to Sora and Kairi are what when he realize he is about to go too deep to stop himself in KH1, and from there onward, what makes Xion turn around the organization? Riki's wisdom and understanding, what stops Roxas from going into the organization and tries to give him a chance to be remember? Riku's actions. Who goes through the mark of Mastery and ends up pulling Sora through his darkness? Riku's determination to protect his friends. What gives Sora the strength to break through Destiny? Why Riku's speech, while he stands firm against the darkness. Riku fights the darkness even more deeply then Sora, and he is more affected by it then anyone other then Xehanort, Ventus and Baldur... But Riku stands at the top compare to the others, when it's about time for him to give in, he raises up on his own and battles it, making an opening for it to be defeated, for it to not succeeds. He even claims his power is to consume darkness and turn it to light. What a better way there is to fight darkness then make it flow in a different way so that it turns into what's against. Riku even fits the quintessential FF protagonist feathers. Which makes sense for him to be the choosen one as Disney's more traditional heroes follow more the every man changing stuff unexpectedly, the true heroes of Disney which aren't base on fairy tales they borrow, are usually normal guys that through being normal are able to change stuff. So what better way to make KH's heroes shine then by make it clear, Riku, the child of Destiny who will always struggle against it, being able to turn the tides against it thanks to his understand it of it by being able to connect deeply with others hearts. Sora, the every man hero, who through being who he is and wanting to help his friends ends up saving the day. It just makes so much more sense then Sora being the *CHOSEN ONE,* it just doesn't fit him. But Riku? It fits like a glove

12:13 Well... yeah. Though at the time, Xehanort was most certainly the light-abiding hero of the story. He did triumph over darkness and restore light to the world. Killing Baldr was the only way he and the people around him knew of to destroy darkness. Casting it away from Bladr would've just rendered it formless, thus impossible to kill. What else was Xehanort supposed to do?

Same thing that happened to Riku. Instead of giving up on him, Sora just beat him and believed in him which let him grow to overcome that darkness. This is more up to the person being controlled by darkness as it's the strength of their heart that needs to overcome it however just like Sora has been saying all this time his friends are his power and he is theirs. Obviously this wouldn't be an easy solution, it take Baldr a long time, even more than Riku, but it's still better than dying.

"Prophecy" is an interpretation of events that might transpire and have no basis for knowing the result, a theory or prediction if you will.

There are two crossover fanfics between this saga and "OUAT" (I'm surprised there aren't like hundreds of them). Sora, Kairie and Riku's story was that Kairie was the princess of a kingdom in the Enchanted Forest that swore to protect the world of light, Sora was her Keyblade knight, and Riku was simply a knight. The Dark Curse separated the three of them and made Sora and Riku enemies, Kairie's fate kinda unknown. Why am I talking about this ? Ever since I read them and played "Nirvana Initiative", I have been thinking. What if the worlds'sagas is meant to suffer a complete reset ? For a new world to be born ? I guess, like Kirari and Yumeko from "Kagegurui", I want to see the universe come to its flashy end, to see its rebirth and what comes out of it. Actually...I don't think this is something recent. Ever since the first game, when Ansem talked about death, that I could only wonder how this universe's hidden side is ? What lies beyond lign and darkness ? What happens when the light separating them evaporates ? What is left ? Will the dead rise ? Will people be reborn ? The possibilities are endless. And all it takes is someone to perform the heart surgery without being manipulated by neither the power nor the characters.

More likely what happened is that Xehanort thought Sora was worthless until the very end when he realized that he was wrong all along and he wasn't the child of destiny. There are a few questions around Luxu as an individual. One, did anyone buy that he died during his fight with Sora. Two, are we sure he can't use two keyblades: one of his own and one passed down. (I have a theory about keyblade transformations.) This is a keyblade lore type of thing. Three, what does Luxu really know? I don't think Xehanort is a failed child of destiny. I think [Player], blue cloak, believes Xehanort is a child of destiny/prophecy, but its only a belief. However, something interesting to point out about the scene at the end of Dark Road. When they refer to Xehanort's great great great grandfather, the scene is focused on the two characters. When they name drop Ephemer, its cut away showing other things. What was it that MoM said about seeing instead of hearing. I think Nomura is clearly pointing out that some people might not be telling the truth.

The Child of Destiny doesn't believe in "the ends justify the means". Once Xehanort started believing that, he failed to live up to his first mentor's expectations. He fell short of being the Child of Destiny. But Sora does not. He believes that only the right decisions and actions done for the right reasons can justify a person's intentions. His continually friendly disposition towards everyone, even his enemies, is what makes him the Child of Destiny. Not by prophecy nor by chance, but by his own everyday choices.

It’s very evident when he said “Without them, I’m worthless”. If he wasn’t able to rewrite everything that happened, I’d be interested to see if he would completely give up and give in to the darkness, which I think he would. He was never truly tested losing people around him. Sora was able to bring them back meaning he was never ultimately tested, which is very different from the case of Xehanort.

Now, if people knew about the MoM's Agito XIII's references, you'd know... "Agito is a term from the world of Orience in Final Fantasy Type-0 and its prequel Final Fantasy Agito. The Agito is a messiah prophesied in ancient mythology to appear at the time of Tempus Finis, an apocalyptic calamity. The legend of the Agito is written in the Nameless Tome." I don't think it's a coincidence that Bragi looks like Lean Joker, whose role was to traverse the Spiral of time in search of Agito. I like to think that KH is spiritually following the Jack ending of the Agito mobile game, the one in which Jack (the FNC's version of Demyx) is the one who originally wished for time to repeat at the end of the world so that the player could someday become Agito in a future world after they reincarnate. Type-0 takes place after the mobile game, after Jack and his 13 comrades fought the same war and died over 600 million times while waiting for Agito to arrive. At that point in the timeline, an undefeatable, space-and-time traveling entity called "Rubrum's Darkness" had appeared in Orience. All it does is consume souls - which will probably cause the permanent death of the world eventually. (Somebody better come up with a plan to keep the light alive, amirite? #JusticeForMoM #MoMDidNothingWrong) The mobile game had a thing called "kizuna" (which means connection/bond) which was a system where the player would talk to the other characters to forge bonds with them. You'd have to tap on a heart - which was the same symbol as the KH heart emblem. At the end of the game, Arecia states that the player's (Agito's) unique power is the Power of Bonds. People are familiar with Versus XIII but not Agito XIII and I think that might be an issue. lol edit: I should add to this that Xehanort is a lot like Cid Aulstyne, whose ambition was to become Agito by unifying every nation - with war. At the end of Type-0, they even say that he became Agito. In a sense, he did. He seized every nation's Crystal and brought about Tempus Finis like the prophesy of the Nameless Tome states, but that didn't grant him the necessary power to save the world - the Power of Bonds. I think that's why Xigbar kept encouraging Sora to follow the hearts joined to his and all that. That power was the essential component. edit 2: Man, I keep thinking of things. Cid Aulstyne was also one of the ONLY characters who knew about the Spiral and knew that the world would continue meeting the same fate without Agito. I don't think we ever found out why he knew, though. "Don’t forget that nothing is over yet! As long as you remain unaware of the true nature of this world, peace will never be achieved!"

There are still some DR things I don't understand. - If it was merely darkness disguised as Maleficent, then why did that dark wisp come from Baldr's sister's body? - Baldr had darkness in his heart. Fine, whatever. And then that darkness ...... spoke to him, possessed him, and left Baldr's body to kill people of its own accord?? What the hell is this darkness? Since when has one's own darkness been able to do this stuff? It wasn't one of the ancient darknesses. Was it darkness he was born with or stray darkness that burrowed into his heart? Or is it that no one is born with darkness but most people become infected with darkness at some point in their lives? - That darkness said that KH's light would destroy everything and leave only darkness. How does it know that? It wasn't around during ancient times so how does it know more about KH than keyblade masters do? Hell, how did it even know that Vidar would, of all the possible thoughts, ideas, and reactions, specifically want to summon KH after watching his friends die? - Why was there a scene of Baldr killing Bragi? That never happened. - Were Ventus, Baldr's sister, and Eraqus former princesses of heart?? They were devoid of darkness even after toddler hood. - Why would taking Xehanort to DI protect him from darkness? Ansem, a heartless, traveled there just fine. Riku had plenty of darkness within his own heart. DI was capable of falling to darkness. - Did Xehanort not realize that the only human he had ever interacted with died right behind him?? And then he never expressed any interest in visiting his adoptive parent again, not even during the plethora of inner monologues and other moments he had to himself. What type of pseudo-loving relationship did they have?? - Going back to the DI thing, citizens like Riku had darkness within their hearts. Is that why MC never let Xehanort associate with other people? If so and DI is somehow inaccessible to darkness, then that means that people do cultivate their own darkness. And that begs the older question: since when has one's own darkness been able to speak to oneself, leave their host to act on its own, and have more knowledge than their host? - Xehanort had only communicated with MC and Ansem before returning to Scala. How in the fuck was he so socially adept? He easily adapted to every social situation he was in without even a hint of uneasiness.

The Darkness Baldr absorb is the collective Darkness of the Classmates hidden by False Light. In their Fear and loathing of the Darkness, they created Shadows of Darkness. Darkness is a Hivemind entity. Even newly birth Darkness can tap into the Ancient ones if they gain enough Will. Baldr believes he ended Bragi. He didn't, though. You don't have to be a Princess of Heart to be Pure Light. Xehanort was told he was taken to Destiny Island to protect him from Darkness, but it is actually to try to force the Prophecy of the Child of Destiny to work. Xehanort empathically resonance with Blue Robes, so they probably knew when "We" were going to die. Further, We know when we are going Die, so we probably told Xehanort not to look back, so we wouldn't destabilize his Heart. Xehanort has memories of being Us, and we did well in social situations.

@@Fragmentsinfractals488 Darkness can't be a hive mind. Those 4 darknesses were fooled into believing that one their brethren was controlling MC. If they were a hive mind, then they would've known that MC was lying. If you don't need to be a PoH to have a heart of pure light, then what was the point of treating the PoHs as if they were special?

I don’t think Dark Road should be remade, but I also do. I’m pretty sure that this wasn’t the complete version of the story they intended to tell from the start and I would prefer they got the chance to tell that story. That being said, I believe they fit the necessary info into the release and the team’s time would be better served making something new and clarifying the more confusing parts in future installments

Nomura has already made it clear that Sora has nothing special about him. He is just an ordinary boy. I don’t get why some fans still insist he is the Child of Destiny. Sora is too much of a wild card to be one. The Player already pointed out Xehanort is the Child of Destiny. Nothing about him being the false one. Xehanort IS definitely one.

"Should Dark Road be remade?" Eh? Its woefully incomplete from a gameplay standpoint, and I know for a fact Nomura cannot pass up "Re:Union" as a game title, but its clear Dark Road only exists to tell a story and it does a good job telling that story. So being a weird, shitty mobile game for people who want extra context is fine by me.

13:34 Criterion #2 confuses me. This is just empathy. Almost everyone has that. That's part of the reason why most, if not all, of Sora's "heroic" monologues are really just him spouting common knowledge. And then, because he's the MC, everyone within earshot act like he said something deep or profound. Hell, Luxu did it in that DDD scene. He went from "Duh. You're strong because of others." to "😳 N-no way...! You're strong because of others!!"

Yeah but I think Sora is more willing to understand others and believe in them because he can see their hearts. He's able to have such solid convictions in his ideals that "there's a light that never goes out" because he actually can see it. People like Baldr and Xehanort could see the same thing he did but came to different conclusion. Instead of seeing it as there being light in every heart no matter how much darkness there is they think of the darkness that's always in others hearts. Basically it's like "the glass half empty or half full" phrase. They focused on the negatives and let it fuel the darkness in their own heart while Sora did the opposite. I think people with this ability are even more susceptible to falling to darkness because it is easier to manipulate them. Out of the 3 people we've seen with this ability only one was able to overcome the darkness. The reason all of his friends and enemies are think more highly of his speech is because he's always shown them true through his actions. He was there for all of his friends when they fell into darkness, strengthing their hearts and then they become that beacon of hope for others and help them in their time in need. Sometimes it's could even be him who needs saving like when Riku helped him in DDD. Basically Sora proved, more than others, that his words are the truth through his actions.
