The factory guys got it right. Don’t delete this!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

GM put a lot of thought and development into this intake elbow. These other aftermarket guys, not so much. While we know there’s room for improvement in the stock intake elbow, there’s also a crucial anti-surge system that needs to continue functioning. None of these guys seem to know what anti-surge is, let alone how to make sure it’s working.

But he wants pressure pre flow of the turbine. Which means constant air drag on the blades designed to push air. Free air is cut by the turbine. So as air is input at less pressure for higher velocity it can balance pressure on the opposite side. But you will have turbo lag.

@@MultiSoftE turbines in planes cut air to provide thrust. But need smooth flow as the plane accelerates or the turbines need to keep accelerating to compensate for the air pressure in front of the blade. Compressors cant compress without force. Smooth flow would mean the plane only uses thrust from combustion which has back pressure flow and issues and wasted energy. So the plane then compresses. Travels and that back pressure is negated. A turbo in a car though, you want that pressure balance because the turbine will be more reliable. Thats why by turbos are so much better. Though you have two, they allow compensation for each’s issues.

THIS! I drive a Mk 7 Golf R, and most people like to swap the turbo inlet pipe right away. The problem with that is the aftermarket TIP doesn't create proper vacuum across the PCV port. The Mk 7 PCV is pretty bad, too, so swapping it for a (much better) Mk 8 PCV along with a Tiguan breather hose allows you to plumb turbo outlet boost pressure through the PCV breather, creating a venturi effect that allows you to run aftermarket TIP's without losing crankcase vacuum.

PCV.... positive crankcase ventilation... Where does vacuum ever enter into this? What about venting the tube to atmosphere or a catch can? There's no vacuum in front of a diesel turbo unless your filter is clogged or you have some eco-garbage in the system. It simply pushes vapors into the intake based on the amount of cylinder blowby. That's it.

@@kleetus92 That is like saying dry sump is different than wet sump in gasoline applications. Of course there are variations across all manufacturers and engine types, nevertheless they ALL Require measurement and Specific Setting points which can be done using the same Technique e.g. SENSOR and Data-capture , this MUST be done for ALL Performance engines in the world modified whether diesel or gasoline, I made NO Specific gesture towards either nor did I address dry sump yet they all fall under the same principles which is that positive pressure is NEVER DESIRABLE no matter wet dry or diesel or gas

@@kleetus92 In other words Diesel and gasoline work the same at wide open throttle. Both require intake pressure drop and kinetic energy control via plumbing design and filter selection. They can all be measured and set via sensor + data capture and this needs to be done. It makes no difference whether diesel or gasoline as they function the same at wide open throttle which is where the aspects of oil control within any crankcase for any engine in the world depend on pressure setting and control over the organizational kinetic energy components of gas and dissolved partial pressure of combustion byproducts etc...

@@megodlike-- I don't know about yours, but my '08 335i twin turbo has wastegates. The advice from Mr. Banks in this video is much much applicable to turbocharged diesel trucks, many of which run big ass single turbos or compound turbos, and I don't think most of them have waste gates. Not saying it's a worse system necessarily, just a different one. The surging he's talking about occurs when the turbo is spooling super hard and then you come off the throttle. If you're modded to the gills and sucking more air through the intake than was ever intended, and if you've removed the valve that's supposed to open in case of a potential backflow situation without putting any other failsafe into play, you can end up with a big turbo spinning super hard, exhaust pressure builds up, and builds up, and builds up, and it's that pressure that eventually creates so much work for the turbo that it's no longer able to continue compressing more air, so instead the accumulated pressure starts to overcome it until it ends up bringing to a stop and then forcing it to spin backwards. That's TERRIBLE for the turbo and bad for the engine, too.

Certainly, there is room for improvement in some areas if you're willing to deal with the consequences, like a louder exhaust system or defeating emissions devices, but for most systems, most driving situations, and the vast majority of drivers, the OEM got it right.

An experienced Audi tech told me to just use OEM parts, and don’t alter the car with aftermarket parts. The mechanic said Audi has 1000s of experienced auto engineers spec cars for different purposes. For example, when you boost HP through ECU you alter everything. Now with that higher HP(speed) you need larger or better quality brakes, maybe different wheel size and/or tires. Can that suspension handle hitting turns at 70 and not 45 like it was designed? Buy the race edition for that

There are situations where you can improve the oem intake system. For example, Honda knew they could have built an intake that produces an extra 20 wheel hp but jt would have required the consumer to use tools to change the light bulbs. The compromise was to have a worse intake but the aftermarket was able to dyno prove a cold air that showed massive improvements. When I looked at the aftermarket intakes for Diesel vehicles, I didn't see any improvement in horsepower. It seems that with modern emissions and computers, there isn't a big gain in replacing the oem tubing. It js already built to deliver the best flow at stock power levels. Only after you increase the power output, do you need to really start changing the exhaust and intake piping. Even then, you have a downside in noise which does harm the driver on longer drives
