The Evolution of The Lamborghini V12

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It went from 2 valves per cylinder to 4, went from a wet sump to a dry sump, and nearly doubled in displacement. What are your thoughts on the Bizzarrini V12?

    So...in theory.... I could cram all the newer bits and pieces from the final iteration of the Bizzarrini V12 on a 1963 engine block? Without much problems?

    TheZProtocol You'd propably have to bore it out quite a bit and drill some holes for the fuel injectors. But it should in theory be possible

    No, you can't. Enlargement in displacement requires to enlarge thickness of block walls. Old one is smaller so it will not be able to withstand stresses and will break apart.

    Why I don't seem to understand is the new V12 is still 60 angle, has 4-valve per technology, and so forth. Isn't the block basically still the same? Furthermore, when you say the evolution of the engine, are you basically saying the block, for the most part stays the same and it's the internal parts, like the valves, cams, fuel injection, and so forth that is changing. Basically, how much different it the "old" V12 vs the "new" V12.

    So it's basically like the small-block 1st-gen Chevy V-8: A reliable, well-performing engine built to get a company's "foot in the door" and compete with a fierce rival, while also becoming an enduring design of legend.

    If it's the same block, same dimensions and externally the same, I have to wonder why they even bothered with the small displacement versions back in the day. It's like deboring and destroking a big block Chevy to 4.5 liters. Why?

  • @frankgile1996

    Ben Garrido Because maybe those engines weren't supposed to make you feel like American V8s did? Some people prefer huge displacement and massive low end torque, and others want more rpms and higher horsepower up high on the revrange... And I suspect the main reason that the displacement went up over the years would be to be able to move the increasingly heavier cars to a better 0-100 km/h without turbos...

  • @efcodpalama

    @efcodpalama

    6 жыл бұрын

    That's a definite possibility. Maybe Lamborghini wanted high revs more than horsepower per se. However, if that's the case, why not make the entire block smaller, lighter and more compact. If you want your engine to rev to 8,000 rpm and to be four liters, why not shrink the external dimensions as much as possible so that you can make the entire car lighter, smaller, better handling etc? I know for a fact that those Bizzarini V12s are at least 250 kg, as well. That's more than an all iron Windsor Ford V8. It seems like you could have had your revs in a much lighter package if you only wanted 4L.

    New cast, forge, and material tech today allow the newer engine have lighter design and handle more pressure and heat. I think they don’t have that back in the day.

    Samuel Jones Good for you. To me this is like the flavorless reading of a script, while the other one is entertaining. I'm clearly not the only one thinking this way either, the numbers don't lie. Eben the early Up to Speed episodes which were not that good were getting more views. Plus the decision of putting this on a second channel barely annyone watches when they have one with 2 million subs is a queationnable decision.
