    I have gen 4 on my P100D and the gen 2 on my 85D. I like the softness of gen 4 but would have liked a bit less bolstering, it’s a lot more than gen 2. I regularly drive both cars.

    Next gen. (gen.3) seats make it harder to get in and out of the Model S due to the increased bolsters. Easy access, if one chooses to use it, helps to an extent by moving the seat and the steering column. Also if one lives in a warm climate, they should definitely consider either the textile or the perforated/ventilated seats as the solid leather/fake leather makes the seats very hot and sweaty.

  • @aerodyneservices

    The high bolsters are also subject to more wear and tear. My used 2015 MS was a demo for 1300 miles and 3 months, you can see a lot of wrinkles on the front pass seat outer bolster.

    If I have done my research correctly, I believe the ventilated/perforated seats were available on NON performance model s' for a limited time with what is called the "premium seats." This is slightly different from gen 4 (premium interior) in that it doesn't have the "comfort" rear seat. From my limited research, these were available on the 90d, towards the end of it's life, which I mainly figured out by every used 2017 90d having them when browsing inventory.

However, I remain a little confused about build year, model year and registration year particularly because here in the UK we get Teslas much later (and pay so much more) than you guys in the US. So, is it possible to identify by VIN number if a used S 75D, advertised as 2017 in the UK actually has the 4th Generation Premium seats? Thank you Black Tesla.

    What about the new black textile seats. Do you know if they are as well hydrophobic protected as the premium leatherette seats? If the textile seats are not as well protected, do you have any suggestions of how to keep them protected from spills? Does the color of the textile rub off noticeably?

  • @BlackTesla

    @BlackTesla

    5 жыл бұрын

    I've had limited time with the textile seats but in that time I noticed that they are not hydrophobic on the textile parts so liquid would absorb through. However, since they are black no stains are visible. I'm not sure how you would protect them other than putting a material over the seats. As far as cleaning them the same practices applied, vacuum, rubbing alcohol should be straightforward. Nothing rubbed off but I only had about 5 days with them, and didn't try white pants, but did try khakis.

    All Model S variants rear seats fold flat. The exception would be any rare Model S with the executive rear seat option. Also 2021/22+ Model S (refresh) do not fold completely flat there is a slight grade on the folded seats, not a big deal but noticeable.

    It is possible to get the headrest adjustment to work, it’s actually really easy, there’s a big thread on TMC about it. The main issue with retrofitting gen4 is that the seat adjustment switch panel sticks out too much and doesn’t fit. You’ll need to source a custom made switch panel.

    Tesla didn't use "vegan"/synthetic leather seats until the introduction of the Tesla Premium seats mid-2017. To tell whether the car you are looking at has Tesla Premium seats look for the adjustable headrest. If it can adjust then its Tesla premium and is synthetic leather. If not then its likely real leather.

    I hear you, and a lot of people say that. However, you're forgetting the cost of the technology (motors, batteries, touch screens, falcon wing doors, auto closing doors, etc) that's what you're paying $100k for. If they then add high-end seats, massage seats, etc the cost would be north of $150k. There is a trend happening now where Tech is the new luxury. When the cost of the tech cones down then they can add more traditional luxury elements. Just something to consider.
