This is a list of all the Technic Lego sets I owned. I firmly believe that playing with Technic Lego helped my mind develop and eventually become a aircraft engineer. 1:11 Universal set 8030, This was the first Lego Technic set I got at age 5. 0:46 Car chassis 8860. When I was in 2nd grade I saved and saved for that. I still remember it cost $86 (Australia). 2:00 Excavator 8851, I received that for my 9th birthday in 1986. 2:25 Polar copter 8640, I got two of these for Christmas 1986, so I made one huge helicopter out of them! 😀 3:15 Test car 8865, A friend gave that to me in 1989. This was the last Lego set I had until 2018 when I bought the 42049 Mine loader.

Ah man, thank you! What a blast from the past video! I gotta say, the 8880 car @ 6:41 deserved like 7 stars to me way back then (or bricks, Lol). For its day it was such a big advance compared to its predecessors (like 8865 @ 3:15) with its all wheel drive, four wheel steering, cool tires, a sweet smooth shifting transmission and very decent body lines back then ... *and used just regular brick pieces to create those body lines. I literally wore out that car’s pieces playing with it so much by rebuilding and modifying it too many times to count. 👍‼️

Very nice walk down memory lane here. My 1st set was 8044 in 1989 and I just just finished building the Bugatti 42083 yesterday. One of my childhood faves was the Tow Truck 8462. I played with that thing so much the pump failed. Wasn't until 15 years later that I was able to replace that pump thru Brick Link and get it running again. It's fully assembled again running routes with my son and daughter who now have picked up the passion for Legos just like Dad.

Loved the video. Brought back memories. Always wanted the one at 6:41 as a kid, but got to make up for it with 19:36 Still have 7:31, and 7:55. Its feels so weird how early on these sets looked so simple, and then got into so much more detail in the 2000's. One thing i loved being a Lego Club member is seeing all the cool things people can make outside of the normal sets, and preview the upcoming sets I would never get as a kid. Haven't gotten into the Technic for the newer ones, but some of the Creator sets make up for it. Reminds me of the Model Team series.

I have the 8860 at 0:44, which was the Technic top box for years. I love the nobby bricks from back then, challenging to be creative. It's not that great. I do have it, it's not bad and fun to play, but the only really special thing is that it's remote controlled. The 1990s flagship sets had much more interesting techniques, and certainly way more challenging to build. Although that latter part is also due to the oversimplified instructions that became common.

0.15 Started my Technic building career with this car chassis set at the age of 9. Learned about pistons, gear ratios, and rack & pinion steering. By today's standards, it's so very basic, but back then it was revolutionary. In my opinion, Lego lost it's way for a while, about 25 years ago, with huge single parts that were good for one purpose only, like a side wall of a castle, or a pirate ship hull, and the kits became toys which you had the inconvenience of having to assemble before it could be played with, rather than an actual construction toy, which it always had been. Glad to see that Lego are now back on top form. I love the current generation of Technic kits, especially the large scale trucks, and have a large collection all built to the same scale, each having been heavily modified from the original. I'm currently working on the 42098 transporter, that I have scaled up to the same scale as the 8258 crane truck and others within my collection, and am extending the trailer to a realistic size with a sloping ramp that tilts very gently from the front (just behind the cab) all the way to the tail, with a fold over connecting ramp between the front end and the trailer on the upper deck. It will also have individual tilting ramps for each car to pack them in more closely, just like on the real things. Still a work in progress, but that's the brilliance of Lego. Still love it at the age of 51!

Nice overview. I missed the Dune Buggy 8845, which was on some pictures seen towed by 8846. I understand the ratings are personal, just wonder why 8480 is only 4 bricks, the robot arm and sat unfolding with the micro motor is pretty clever, and it's a massive set.

@@StartBricking No worries, on the other hand I saw some sets I had forgotten about. And it's also quite personal at times, I really liked the first technic sets, like the tractor, and forklift, because were the first ones I played with. I was raised in an agricultural area, and a kid that I played with a lot lived on a farm, and owned the tractor. I had the tow truck, the dune buggy and later the Unimog. Very playable sets.

In technic too. The golden age was the 90s. Though in technic the very early 2000s is still good. Just sad how Lego technic these days is more just a dozend sets, 2-3 of which are big sets, that are just big for big's sake and just sit there as expensive sets for years.... Sets are still good, dont get me wrong. Just... theres cery little focus. Technic these days feels more like an afterthought then one of the major centers of Lego.
