The Evel Knievel Museum, Topeka, KS

Judy and I took a trip to the Evel Knievel Museum in Topeka, KS. The museum is attached to and operated by a Harley-Davidson Dealership. The HD staff were simply outstanding - even to an Indian rider like myself!

Thank You for the Video. Well done! I grew up in Montana during the Evel Knievel times. So difficult to describe how exciting it was and the impact to the motorcycle world. As kids we would remove our fenders off our Schwinn Stingrays and make our own jumps with planks and concrete blocks. Lots of cuts and bruises no broken bones! Amazing we did not get injured seriously! It was even worse when we got enduro motorcycles. He was a icon and a genius promoter. You and your wife are a lovely couple enjoying your life, thanks for sharing!

Thank you very much for sharing and the kind words. Yea, I sure remember those days, watching him or when I wasn’t able to watch, waiting to hear the news of Evel Knievel succeeded in his jump!!! You’re so right, lucky, the injuries were worse for us kids! My younger brother flew over the handle bars once in a jump and only had minor scratches. I once had a sprained ankle, I could not imagine all the broken bones he sustained. He was one of a kind! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts - they are so spot on!!!!

My wife and I visited this place last month and truly enjoyed the experience as I was a huge fan of his growing up! They said the museum is moving to Las Vegas in November.

Yea, I heard something similar. In a way its a little sad it is moving to Vegas. it is nice that small cities/towns have larger than life pieces of history, such as this museum. It was a fun visit and the staff were terrific. I am sure Vegas will make it "bigger" in every way - but not sure that will mean it will be better. I'll have to make a trip there and see once it is up and running. Thank you for your comments sir - have a terrific weekend!

Evel was a true American legend and an icon, that man lived one hell of a life that was for sure .. Evel literally was Elvis on 2 wheels .. although i admire him for his skill & showmanship, I've read & seen lots of stuff regarding his personal life that makes me not like that side of him .. back then though it was a different time .. we had Eddie Kidd here in the UK .. these guys were superstars back then

Thank you for your comments - I completely agree with your assessment. He is. man on one hand, to be admired - he had the old fashion "grit" but on the other hand, he was not always a good husband, etc. On one hand, he could be generous - especially to kids, and on the other hand, self centered and obstinate. I have heard - that his last few years, he was a much better man - I hope so. Thank you again, I think you nailed his life and how one can be found of him and his accomplishments and on the other hand, not try to live their personal life like him. I'll look up about Eddie Kidd - sounds fascinating. I did not know the UK had a version of Evel. So cool! I learn something new and humbled daily. Thank you!

Also because 2 of the 3 original Co-Founders live(d) there and 1 of them being the owner of Historic Harley-Davidson of Topeka. Plus, several of Evel's crew live in the general area. This said, after 7 years, it is moving to Vegas in 2025. Last day in Topeka is November 2nd 2024

What a boring video, Evel was great so quit making it about you and the sound of you voice

  • @ABM659

It sure isn't about the sound of my voice, if you notice, most of my videos over the years, I don't even talk. Not sure where in the video I made it about me, after all, I show his history and his abilities, not mine. Most of the video I am not even speaking - and at the end I show my stupid mistakes with my voice. You made an assumption - and a non-sequitur. You have a good day just the same and if you take the time to make an Evel video, I'll be sure to watch.
